April 5, 200520 yr I think the title and description say it all. I have a 56k modem, and it serves my purposes just fine. However, if this first patch (and subsequent ones as well :D) is more than, say 10 MB, its going to a pain to download. Now, I have T1 access on my work PC and a 4GB USB drive, so downloading from there will work far better, but only if its standalone. Can I get a solid yes or no from anyone in authority about whether its going to be offered standalone?
April 5, 200520 yr i am 56k and have a daylight savin package and i dont mind downloading any sized patch well upto 100meg lol. ill just use a download accelerator program with resume ability.
April 5, 200520 yr You didn This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
April 5, 200520 yr Strange Question. Of course it will be a single file. What else should it be? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I may be way off the mark here, but I think it would be a single file you download and run as opposed to a file you can only get through the updater. Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!
April 5, 200520 yr Ah okay. I'm very sure they offer it as a singe file AND through the updater. So you can download it from work without having kotor installed. That's 99% sure.
April 5, 200520 yr Author Skeeter, At times, I have also done some massive downloads, but I avoid it at all costs if I can. (I downloaded Magic Online over dial-up before I got my 4GB drive. I think it was something like 200MB, then another 130MB of automatic updates). adrich81, That's what I'd hope, but life rarely makes sense. Think about the subplots of this game and the facts about how much of the game was cut... MTGO doesn't offer any kind of stand-alone downloads. Everything must be done through their programs or not at all.
April 5, 200520 yr The original KotOR patches were standalone as well as updater. The first KotOR 2 patch was downloadable standalone, and I don't see why the second shouldn't be.
April 5, 200520 yr Everything (concerning game patches) from LucasArts was stand-alone this far. I really doubt they change it for KotOR 2. The built-in updater is just for the lazy folks.
April 6, 200520 yr Actually I had problems with the updater when the UK "patch" (ha bloody ha) came out. Most of the time it refused to connect or couldn't see it.
April 7, 200520 yr Well, if they follow the Bioware model then they should be able to do it either through the updater or be able to download the critical build patch. Harvey
April 7, 200520 yr Shame that the kotor 1 patches dont work with kotor 2 lol. Totally different content but fixes same bugs i assume. As kotor 2 was made with 1.0 release of kotor 1 engine and whatnot.
April 8, 200520 yr It doesn't actually use exactly the same engine, it's been tweaked to allow a few extra things, particularly suport for more resolutions (though you have to add them manually). I think they tweaked the 1.0 engine, not whatever the patched engine was...
