It's not like they're missing anything...

Its all a matter of opinion. I have played HL2 and beaten it and the features on HL2 and the game engine are simply incredible. It added a level of interactive features never before seen in a game. Show me one site that gave it a negative review.

E.g. You can enter a room and grab a filing cabinet and throw it at a soldier and kill the other one with a shotgun.

Or...

If someone is chasing you, you can hide in an abandoned aparment and rearrange all the furniture and turn off the lights and hide. You can also shoot through the walls and damage the scenery.

No Story Whatsoever.

Usually when speaking about fps that is the case. Reviews are basicly about it

I played the original HL and I still think HL2 had no story at all. You may consider 'go there, kill things, go somewhere else, kill some more things' a story, but I don't. :)

Its an ok story but not the best story ever

I will refer you to this line.

Killing things is the object of every FPS. Thats why its an FPS (unless you stun everyone ;))... I hate senseless killing which is why I think Doom 3 is complete BS. I think certain FPS games had good stories like HALO, HALO2 (I'm guessing since i dont have an XBOX), Deus Ex stuff like that. There are some comedy shooters out there too like NOLF and NOLF2 which are amusing and not meant to have a serious storyline.

Doom 3 had more of a story than HL2, and I found Doom 3 mildly entertaining.

Doom 3 kind of got boring after lights dim, zombies come, zombies die then the cycle repeats itself. Ofcourse its entertaining because you can go trigger happy and shoot everybody. :p

And HL2 is different how? Oh yeah, I forgot. Locations change and you can maul the poor things to death using the grav gun.

Precisely :p

Well.... there's nothing wrong with more possibilities... There are a million possible ways to solve each scenario. Its not so much the story but more the gameplay. The sheer amount of possibilities is just amazing.

Yeah, I won't deny that. I was very impressed with HL2's engine. However, I can't really enjoy a game which doesn't compel me story-wise. If you can, good for you, that means you haven't wasted $50. ;)

Everybody is suited to different games. I also prefer to play games with a good story. That was HL2's main failing besides the stupid friendly AI which walk right in front of you...

I can get a legal CD Key Registration for $5 but w/o any game CDs or manuals. One of my friends had a copy of HL2 so I borrowed the CDs, burned them and I installed the game.
