That way you can shoot an enemy while you rush at him to cut him down with your lightsaber while pistolwhipping him at the same time. Or if you throw your lightsaber and an enemy Jedi catches it, then you still have a weapon. YOu can also attack multiple enemies at once with a gun in one hand, and a sword in the other. Thoughts? I've never seen or read about a Jedi using a lightsaber in one hand while firing a blaster in the other.
