Since Microsoft rumor about purchasing Obsidian has started and Obsidian's Project Indiana as possible reason for acquisition is there any hope for remastered NWN2?

Apparently, Beamdog can't touch NWN2.

Other than that, what we know about NWN2 legal issues?

Microsoft are buying developers for console exclusives to compete with Sony aren't they? It seems like the deal is more likely to prevent Obsidian doing a remaster than help the situation

I think its less that Beandog can't touch NWN2 but rather Trent Oster (co-owner) doesn't like NWN2.

According to the box Obsidian owns the copyright to NWN2's engine and tools so they'd either need to back port it or get Obsidian's permission, that's where the "can't touch it" comes from. The engines for their other remasters have all been © Bioware.

They probably would otherwise, not much left to remaster and they seem to have bailed on their original project game.
