Gregorovich Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) The name of the topic tells all the point. I just feel as the potential of the particular armor has not been fulfilled. I'll explain myself: Tier 1 bonus: summon a small pet, well, not OP, not the thing you can't live without, but good and absolutely nice thing for the first soulbound level, Tier 2: 10% recovery, good with no commentaries, Tier 3: class-dependant, ability to deal with the beasts in general, useful in some cases, but a bit situational. Tier 4: transform into an animal. That's the reason. I mean transforming into an animal is great in terms of the mantle, but it's not that useful and really lack some things, as for me: 1. Adequate description of the things the animal do, I only know that the spider casts web when hits, and the staelgar deals aoe damage (at least it seems like that) 2. Allow the player to choose the particular transformation, so that it could be reliable enough to use in certain circumstances 3. Let the animals' weapons (I mean claws, teeth, tusks, etc.) scale with character level just like the summoned weapons or druid spiritshifts. The basic damage and PEN are OK, at least not that bad, but the lack of accuracy make them useless against late-game opponents. 4. Make the transformations more unique. For example, decrease the duration of the transform, but give it a really good bonus, something like: Staelgar - great damage/speed/crit boosts, letting it crush enemies for the short period, Boar - exteremely fast regeneration (like 50/s), and Spider - mental web letting you charm enemies or debuff them. The point is to have an OP thing for 10-15 seconds 1/rest, which can be a lifesavior in certain cases, like the boss hit your druid, so he is near death, but transforms into a Super-Boar able to survive and giving you some time to deal with the boss or save the druid. Something like a scroll or a potion, if you want. So that Changeling's Mantle would feel useful, interesting, and the fight with the changeling would be really rewarding, being good anyway. What do you think of the Mantle? And if you have any suggestions, how to use it effectively in current state, tell me, please))) P. S. I actually expected a druid spiritshift, looking like a spider, but that's not the point to complain Edited October 5, 2018 by Gregorovich
Clerith Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 It's the best looking armor in the game imo, and the first 2 bonuses are good, the 3rd one is, like you said, very situational, and I've never transformed into an animal, since that almost always sucks. My character is built to be op with gear or spellcasting, transforming into a beast is 99,9% of the time going to be weaker. A super mythic giant beast transformation 1/rest that lasts like 10 seconds sounds great.
Boeroer Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) Is the transformation the same as with Spiritshift or Form of the Fearsome Brute (you retain all items except weapons and armor) or not? Edited October 5, 2018 by Boeroer Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Gregorovich Posted October 5, 2018 Author Posted October 5, 2018 Is the transformation the same as with Spiritshift or Form of the Fearsome Brute (you retain all items except weapons and armor) or not? Only the weapons are changed, just like the spiritshift, but the Changeling's Mantle stays as your armor, as well as all the other items. Plus you can't cast spells.
Boeroer Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 But you can use other abilities? Thanks for the info! Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Gregorovich Posted October 5, 2018 Author Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) But you can use other abilities? Thanks for the info! You're wellcome) Unfortunately, I don't know, because the only guy in my party, able to use it was Tekehu, druid, so no abilities except spells. If you didn't bind Changeling's Mantle, you should try it, because you have to complete the fight in the arena to reach Tier 4, which can be only accessed with the Mantle (it appears after reaching Tier 3). And the fight is worth it. But the ability to transform dosen't feel as a satisfying reward at the moment, as it is too weak to use it effectively. Update: I've checked, that you can't use scrolls, potions and all the consumables, while transformed. If your equipment gives you some abilities, you can't use them as well. Know nothing about martial classes abilities. Edited October 5, 2018 by Gregorovich
DozingDragon Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Hey, for what it is worth, any abilities that target beast enemies tend to be very useful during the fight with Belranga.
Gregorovich Posted October 5, 2018 Author Posted October 5, 2018 Hey, for what it is worth, any abilities that target beast enemies tend to be very useful during the fight with Belranga. I agree with you, but the abilities are still situational.
