ETA> Although, seems like something like a katana could be either single handed or two handed wield with differing stats. Or someone with enough size and strength... er... might... could wield a two handed sword one handed.

not really if you wanted more one handed battle axes  instead we got two new two handed battle axes. This sucks since i wanted to dual wield with a battle axe oh well.
