I just got the game and I know what type of build and party I want. However, I saw that enemies can scale to your level if selected in the difficulty menu. Do your companions and character get too overpowered if you start with max level and skills? Im a player who likes to enjoy the story without pauses so I was thinking of having my characters be max level with all necessary skills in the beggining of the game so that I dont have to pause and do them later mid game. Would maximizing difficulty level balance the game so Im not too overpowered or are the characters too op maxed out? Thank you

I am not sure about this, but I think the scaling is not that flexible that it would scale all the monsters exactly to your level. I think it will scale them within a range, so your character will definitely be overpowered at the beginning.

Scaling will not fix that. Mobs will gain stats but not abilities. As a veteran, I find only the early game is difficult, but then I outpower enemies and scaling can't keep them threatening.

But if you're new to the game and play at a high difficulty with scaling from the get go, your max level cheat will probably not be enough to keep you out of big trouble. Lack of game familiarity will likely make you pick skills/abilities you later regret and you won't know how to manage your economy or where to find the equipment to supplement your builds.

All in all I think you should just play on normal difficulty without level cheating for your first playthrough.

Scaling is currently implemented at a +4/-4 level range, iirc. This means that a level 10 enemy encountered at level 20 would scale up to a maximum of level 14, while that same enemy encountered at level 1 would scale down to a minimum of level 6.

I remember hearing someone (either a dev or a modder) looking at changing that to +6/-6, but I'm not sure. I'd prefer +8/-8 myself, so hopefully future challenge modes will introduce some new scaling options.
