Verde Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Played a Rogue/Soulblade and it was very fun and powerful. With the new changes to the Tricker class (thank you for reducing the Sneak Attack penalty) I'm wonder which multi would be better? I like the idea of a Trickster Beguiler from a RP perspective but not sure how he would play out in combat.
Boeroer Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 (edited) I played a Trickster/Beguiler in the beta and the best part of it was his potential to CC mobs without pause while also damaging them. Back then I used a rod for applying rogue's afflictions in an AoE and then use deception CC. With Draining Whip I could get more focus back from Phantom Foes and Eyestrike than I spend(!). It was not overpowered but effective. Now the rod Blast doesn't cause afflictons anymore so you'd have to use Hand Mortar + Fire in the Hole or Frostseeker. Those still work. Or a scroll of Kalakoth's Minor Blights. Wahaī Pōraga and WotEP would also work if you want melee. Back then I only used Trickster for more CC options instead of another rogue. And because of the nice thematical combo. Edited July 2, 2018 by Boeroer Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Verde Posted July 2, 2018 Author Posted July 2, 2018 Thanks Boeroer. I went with the Trick/Beg build and it's fun. Def a different flavor. I think it's fun from a RP perspective. Also Eder is now a Swashbuckler and I'll prob multi a few others into Rogues.
Loren Tyr Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 (edited) Slightly older thread I know, happened to come across it just now. Just wanted to point out that Rod with Blast still applies all full attacks in its AOE (assorted rogue attacks, Flames of Devotion, Barbaric Blow, Spirit Frenzy stagger, etc.). No poisons or Assassinate bonus unfortunately, but hitting a crowd with something like Gouging Strike is of course quite useful (and Sneak Attack obviously does apply as well). Running Aloth as a Spellblade Blaster to rather good effect at the moment. Edit: also works with Driving Flight by the way, for double the blast and double the attack ability. Though unfortunately it does require playing part Ranger (admittedly Blast + Driving Flight + Twinned Shot is hilarious, but not quite worth it to play single class ranger). If only Wounding Shot was actually any good, that'd help. Edited July 6, 2018 by Loren Tyr
Verde Posted July 7, 2018 Author Posted July 7, 2018 (edited) So I went with Trickster/Beguiler. My thoughts - 1. This build is more CC/Debuff than DPS. Requires Final Blow to really get that offensive oomph. Doesn't really need Crippling or Withering Strike due to so many debuff abilities. 2. With the updates to Trickster this class has a ton of Deception-like tricks...able to AOE debuff and Sneak Attack constantly. 3. For RP it fits well - a wily adventurer who is both streetwise and diplomatic. Well at least my take So from the RP perspective it makes my "top tier". 4. Beguiler's enhanced ranged on Deception is a HUGE bonus. Add in improved cast times and you will be Mental Binding nonstop. Secret Horrors is way to fast and powerful for it's level ha. Focus is never really and issue. 5. Overall I really like the class but it's currently (lvl 10) not as powerful as a Swashbuckler or Soulblade Mindstalker. But as far as debuffing, he's pretty powerful. If you like the idea of a more cerebral Mindstalker, this build is a good choice. Just be mindful (hehe) that it is more on the support than offensive side (e.g. Soulblade or Assassin). Hope this helps anyone considering a similar build. Perfect time consider the buffs to both Trickster and Cipher! Edited July 7, 2018 by Verde
