Nooooooooo I just found this build and was super excited about it. Confirmed broken?

I still use that helmet but unfortunately, you need a second toon in your party to jolt/ apply lightning damage to the toon wearing the helmet. It still provides a good % damage lash but there is no more looping involved where the numbers stack to infinity. 

They can put some limit on the helmet instead of disabling self-triggering instead. Like don't allow the elec lash to affect spells, reduce the % lash u get from elec damage.

So have Aloth cast Jolt on my character then proceed as normal with the build?

Ok, so it seems it was a bug on two save games that I had. I checked it out now with a hired adventurer and it works on self-cast. RPG Division made a video of Deltoro's Cage Helm in action on current patch:

I will update the guide shortly because some other things changed - duration of buff is reduced to 15 seconds and unbending is no longer god mode. And if someone wants to roll a new character with this build I recommend Unbroken - -15 reflex is amazing for getting hit.

 

Sorry for confusion. It seems I jumped to conclusions way too quickly.

If I hit myself for negative damage, do I heal?

What???

I was under the wrong impression that Shock Shield would heal me if I hit myself with for Shock damage under Frenzy. Played it to level 12 to find out .. well, as the greatest Czech Jára Cimrman would say, someone has to discover blind allies for the rest of us.
