  1. In my case C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Obsidian Entertainment contained the beta savegames (and contains an empty CurrentGame folder after Aeloisio's procedure)... I wonder if this whole issue might be being caused by some kind of conflict between the beta and the full game..? (Although that doesn't mean the whole savegame mechanism is less seriously fubared...)
  2. Huh, seems to be working for me (at least for now), thanks! Will update if when it stops working.
  3. Possible solution / workaround by aeloisio in a related thread (in my case it seems to be working, at least for now, although it has apparently failed to work for at one other affected player):

  5. There are a couple other threads on this (or very similar) problem(s), where you might find "solutions" (possibly placebos) that seem to have worked for other players and me (although sadly no solution seems to have worked for everyone, or consistently): http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72216-saved-games-disappear/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72527-cannot-load-saved-games/ In my case disabling cloud sync and removing all but two (2) of the .savegame files in %homepath%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity seems to work (for now), although I must do this every time before I start the game (leaving only the last couple of saves)... but this seems to have stopped working for at least one other affected player, so take it with a grain of salt. Regarding file size, it seems to progressively increase as you progress (which makes a certain amount of sense, since the savegames are zip files containing, among other things, what appear to be maps - possibly bitmaps? - of every visited place - including interiors - and their respective fogs of war, which seem to make most of the size, although the largest file is a certain MobileObjects.save that probably contains the inventory, journal, quests, and whatnot, and that also keeps increasing as you progress); right now, having been exploring part of Defiance for a while, mine stand at around 2.5MB per file. Edit: also regarding savegame file size, a similar and possibly related thread, regarding MobileObjects.save progressively bloating up (even in the relatively early game) and causing severe slowdowns every time the game saves (so, thanks to autosaves, every time you move to a new place), probably due to the time it takes to compress the file: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/72764-quick-saving-and-loading-times-increased-greatly-after-20-hours In any case, the bloating save games and the inability of the game to load them might very well be independent problems (although it's quite clear that the game has extremely serious issues with its handling of savegames, with the companion stats bug as another example of saving/loading badly messing things up: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73449-stat-bonus-modifiers-can-erroneously-be-applied-multiple-times-allowing-stats-to-grow-beyond-intended-values/).
  6. For me it seems to work if I have no more than two (2) .savegame files in %homepath%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity, autosave and quicksave included, at least for now (although your post is seriously making me worry that I might also run out of luck). After a better look it doesn't seem due to file corruption either, since any two .savegame files seem to work. The game just seems to somehow give up when it sees a third one (who uses more than two save files including autosave and quicksave, anyway, the one percent? [disclaimer: this is effin' sarcasm, if that wasn't clear]). Frankly, this is quickly sapping me of any motivation to play. Why even bother when I'll almost surely end up losing all my progress? It's fast becoming anything but fun. Probably better just uninstall and wait for a community patch in a few years...
  7. OK, seems like it might be due to some sort of savegame corruption... deleting all save games from %homepath%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity except for the autosave and the latest one seemed to work (although probably identifying which one was causing the problem through trial and error and deleting that one would probably also have worked), at least for now (yay, uncertainty!). Obviously keep a backup copy of your savegames if you try this, just in case. Still a terribly nasty bug, though, particularly without knowing what causes the corruption in the first place (I could try to identify which savegame/s cause the problem, try to replicate it, and attempt to find a pattern, but frankly I can't be bothered, and it should be the darned developers' job anyway), so better save often (and don't even consider trial of iron, unless you're certifiably insane or you don't plan on closing the game and have a very good UPS) and be ready for the possibility that the corrupted save/s might be your last one/s. Who plays to relax, anyway..? Getting stressed and anxious over the possibility of losing your savegames and having to tediously replay from whatever point the game decides is what gaming is all about, isn't it?

  9. Can't load my saves either; the files are in %homepath%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity (bunch of .savegame ZIPs), and there's an apparently outdated (it was last modified earlier than my last save games) loadedSave.zip in %localappdata%\Temp\Obsidian Entertainment\Pillars of Eternity, but output_log.txt says, among other things, "Error loading save game cache!", and the load and continue buttons are greyed out. Wasteland 2 (which I believe runs on the same engine?) appears to have had a similar problem due to a corrupted "save game table of contents", which could be fixed by deleting the TOC.txt file in the save game folder and letting the game rebuild it, but Pillars of Eternity doesn't seem to have an equivalent file, at least in this location. The first time it happened, disabling Steam cloud sync appeared to fix the issue, but obviously I can't disable it again once it's already been disabled (and since this problem seems to be somewhat random for some users - not for me, I tried all combinations of not skipping the intro, loading without Steam, and running as an administrator, all without success -, it probably was a placebo fix anyway). This whole predicament obviously renders the game even more unplayable than the baffling, inexcusable and inexplicable lack of companion AI / tactics. Please patch this yesterday. The game should simply not have been released knowing it had this kind of bugs.
