What happened to all that fun press we used to have? You'd think your newspapers would all have a lot more to talk about now. -

183.5 cm and 61 kilos here. I think I've got you beat. I've got the metabolism of a ferret, and I'm also very fidgety. (research shows people who couldn't sit still if their live depended on it are probably skinny) Anyone got advice on gaining weight besides such sillyness as eating more? I eat four meals a day and basically snack all day long, plus eat loads of fruit. No, it's not a medical condition. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 56kg and 170cm here, on a diet of potatoes, bread, pasta, and chicken. I'm a carb burning machine, baby. :) I laugh at you, so-called Neutral-True, and your silly Frrroo-its. Now go away or I shall-a taunt you a second time. :D Actually, I'd like to gain some weight too, but I'd like to gain it as muscle, and due to my horrendous diet, I'm constantly paranoid that if I exercise more than a little I'll start gaining all that weight as fat, and turn from a small scrawny geek into a big huge overweight one with no friends.

What I just don't understand is why the hell the show can't be aired both in the US and the UK at the same time. What's so bloody difficult about it? Oh, and anyone notice that the Jack Chick thread seemed to disappear? Deleted, I suppose.

I'm 122lb. " But congrats on losing the weight. I too just started exercising, and it's killing me.

Jade Empire has a homosexual romance?

Bah! What good is it, then? A game without graphic depictions of sex is not much of a game at all. " -

If by that you mean shortening the deadlines, I doubt that will happen. I heard that there were a lot of last-minute negotiations for the Fall turn, so it would seem that people are capable of spending a week negotiationg. Also, as the players get the hang of things, they'll inevitably begin to think of long-tern strategy and goals, and have much more in-depth strategic discussions with potential allies and enemies. And as people get more units, more negotiation is required for the moves of each unit. If anything, I think the amount of negotiation is only likely to increase as the players get better. Of course, with so much more to do, the chances of week-long turns becoming boring gets slimmer. -
Microsoft to Make Games for Nintendo

But...but, if you throw out your Nintendos, you will be sent to gaming hell! You'll have to play games on a Sega CD and a Phantom for all eternity! Why wuld you willingly condemn yourself to such a fate? Oh, gaming lord, please spare this man, for he knows not what he does! I shall pray for you, that you might find your way back into the light. -

That is rather cluttered. I'd suggest you remedy that problem by throwing out your PS1, PS2, and XBox. :D -

Microsoft to Make Games for Nintendo

That would be somewhat strange. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Would it? Verily, when the time doth come, the Evil One shall say his silent words of power, and our handheld holy talismans shall cease to function and lose their power, while the Most Dark Creator shall spread his evil talismans among the young, with promises of gore, and nudity, while endowing them with his dark Halos. And when all our younglings are corrupted, will our revolution fail? Will the word of his holyness the Super Nintendo be heard no more? Shall we fall into the dark blackness of the evil Box of X? Evil times are ahead of us, my children, but trust in Nintendo, and all shall be as he wills. In the name of the Plumber, and of the Monkey, and of the Princess Zelda, Amen. :sorceror: -

Rare used to make a lot of Nintendo stuff. Since being taken over by MS they have been quite mediocre releases. Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Conker (which is an old game remixed rather than anything new). Kameo is in limbo having been for the Xbox and now switched over to the 360. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's what happens when you leave the all-powerful and most-holy Nintendo. Suddenly everything sucks, as the gods of gaming turn an unfavourable eye toward you. Yea, so it was in our fathers time, and in our grandfathers time (though it was then the gods of carpentry), and so it shall be in ours. Microsoft is the Great Satan, so the holy books tell us, and so the gods have commanded. Amen. -
Yeah, but it'd either take forever to download, or it'd be small and grainy, and either way, watching it on my PC is a poor substitute to my TV.

What he said. Atlantis is good, but the new Battlestar Galactica was unbefarkinglevably awesome. What really pisses me off is that the UK has to wait until farking October for series 2. It's not ****ing fair.

How do *you* find players for your campaigns?

I talk about it with my other players at parties until someone comes up and asks what the hell I'm talking about, and then I start my sales pitch. -

One of the problems with switzerland, even in the main game, is that it very easily allows the creation of stalemate lines across the board, which if achieved will bring the game to a crashing halt. On the other hand, in the main game, I'm sure that it serves some useful balancing purpose (though I am more inclined to think that it actually unbalances the game by disadvantaging Italy). In this game, Switzerland being neutral doesn't make all that much sense, lacking a historical justification, but balancing may make me change my mind. In truth, after thinking it over last night, I am coming to realise that the original game is superbly balanced, and changing it while keeping it fair is extremely difficult. -

Perhaps you are right, but I rather suspect that I too cannot be arsed. It is now rather late, but what I am currently considering is Removing the Celts and placing in Carthage (F Tunis, A Spa, F Por), and either extending the Channel and Helgoland Bight into the North sea (and renaming them suitably), or creating a new sea province such that the North Sea is no longer adjacent either Belgium, Holland, or both. After all, in the standard game Hel is necessary to ensure that Germany does not get paranoid about losing Kiel to England, so something similar may be needed. Here (I didn't have the energy to do the units): http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/4264/proj...cymapalt7yp.gif Good night. -

One thing I note is that while the Burgundian army in Dijon can move to Aquitaine and stand the Celts out of there, since the West Roman player is certain to move A Turin-Switzerland, and since the Dane might move A Copenhagen-Saxony, the only way the Burgundian player could effectively garuantee a build is to vacate either Brussels or Amsterdam, which would give the Dane a 50:50 chance of taking a Burgundian centre based on his guess of which would be moved. Of course, if Burgundy can't vacate Brussles or Amsterdam without them being taken, then the effectively has only one supply centre, rather than three (or even six ). I think it is the Danes, instead of the Burgundians who have the advantage in this situation. Either way, it's still not what you'd call balanced. -

I agree the map needs quite a bit of work, and I'm now thinking that Burgundy might be a rather bad idea. Having those areaa neurtral and filling out the centre of the map might be a better idea (Bavaria-Bohemia, maybe?). As to using some sort of variant map in our next game, my hope is that someone else will be able to GM at that point, so I can get a game, and I'd rather play the standard map. -

While we're waiting for the last person to submit his build orders, I wonder if y'all could do me a favour. Diplomacy is one of those games you can easily change just about any aspect of pretty easily, and as such there are tons of variants on the standard Diplomacy rules and map. I've been working on a little pet project of my own, similar to some other variants, that mixes up the countries, provinces and supply centres somewhat. Could you take a look at this starting map and give me any first impressions (like "Country X looks stronger than Y", or "It looks boring and crap") of it? http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/319/pro...omacymap1xy.gif If you're wondering, The Powers are: Green - Celtic Kingdom Burgundy - Burgundy Pink - Denmark Orange - Poland-Lithuania Gold - Golden Horde Purple - Byzantium/Eastern Roman Empire Red - Western Roman Empire And no, it has nothing to do with any actual history. -
Actually, it's more like they realise they've paid all that money for the gibberish of some psychologist-hating hippie, attempt to leave, and are subsequently forced to stay and are either brainwashed and tortured, driven to suicide, or killed.

There is such a method in use in some places, whereby Build lists are submitted along with conditions (like, "If I take Hol then Build F Kie, if not then B F Ber"). The problem with this method is that players cannot actually see the situation on the board before they make their decisions on what to build, which I consider unfair, and that on certain turns when there is the possibility of large gains being made, the conditional orders could stretch for pages based on what provinces are taken. This method takes slightly longer (though not much longer if certain people didn't insist on waiting until a few minutes before the deadline to send orders *cough* *cough*), and allows players to engage in diplomacy, which is technically against the rules, but by allowing players to look at the results of their moves before deciding what to build, I think it is a better method, You betcha.
