    Dreams

I reckon it's a mechanism to stop us going nuts while we're asleep. Like how if you're in a sensory deprivation tank your brain makes up sights and sounds because it can't really deal with having no input. And in dreams, you have a similar situation only for your higher brain functions as well as your senses. I have no evidence to support this whatsoever. Recently, my dreams always seem to involve unusual situations in abandoned buildings or ruins. Parties in empty factories, trying to find a way out of dark and ancient jungle cities. I'm often disappointed when I wake up.
  2. Isn't Japan having growing problems with teenage gangs and street violence? I'm not saying that it is liked to video games (I don't believe so), but I'm not sure how correct it would be to say Japan isn't having any problems.
  3. Its a shame Mystic Eye Games didn't get any nominations (I don't know if they even entered). A Few years ago, Hal (their Vice President) gave me a free sourcebook for Christmas. Nice Guy, and a useful, highly detailed book.
  4. PC Shooters suck. In fact, all shooters suck except for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark 1, both of which were on the N64. Of course, that's because everything sucks when it's not on a Nintendo.
  5. If he'd said "Life is like a Shakespearean Tragedy. You have to die sometime," I wonder if people would want to ban books.
  6. If I were playing Turkey, I certainly wouldn't have suggested it. A Juggernaut almost always results in a runaway win for Russia. A Juggernaut isn't just not the only way for Turkey to win, it's also a way he can be pretty sure he won't win.
  7. If you think the moves that came out were crazy, you should have seen some of the ones one player in particular sent me. Every moveset but the last one was progressively more crazy than the last. He's talking about me, I believe. :"> ALSO: That's it Rev, everyone has agreed for the shorter turn length. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did Aishur? " Besides, aren't any of you joining game 3? Wouldn't you rather keep the turn length the same and just double the volume of negotiation? As the GM for this game, I'll say that I'm not so bothered by out of character posts as long as they are still on topic. A few more in character news articles would be nice, but I won't pitch a fit as long as you don't start talking about something unrelated to the game.
  8. Generally the deadline is "when we have seven players", though because Arch is inviting the OBS-1 players to participate, it might be slightly different (like a week after he has seven players if some of them are from OBS-1, in order to give new players more chance to sign up). I'm sure Arch will clarify everything, though.
  9. I wouldn't mind another game, though since OBS-2 just started, the players of OBS-1 should probably have priority over OBS-2 players. I'd happily be a standby for the game if someone drops out, though.
  10. The Times of Vienna January 1, 1901 The Emperor is Dead! Long live the Emperor! Early this morning, at exactly midnight, Franz Joseph I, The Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and King of Bohemia died peacefully in his bed. He guided Austria-Hungary through the turbulent latter half of the 19th century, and had many great diplomatic acomplishments. He was a great moral figure, known for his compassionate rule, and today the country mourns his loss. The crown has passed to his thirteen year-old Grand-nephew Karl I, and in accordance with Franz Jospeh I's last will and testament, the recently passed Emperor's distant relative and close friend Archduke Reveilled will act as regent during the Emperor's minority. Archduke Reveilled has promised to foster good relations with the great powers of Europe, and claims he will do his best to avoid any coming war that many diplomats feel is inevitable. He has also extended an invitation to all the leaders of Europe to attend the funeral of Franz Joseph I, to take place on the fourth of January.
  11. Im guessing either Archie, or more likely, Baley " Who was it? The spring 1902 strategic fiasco must be awarded to Archie for his highly advanced scheme of permanently losing Norway in order to keep me from taking Belgium :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It wouldn't be fair to say (priveleged info, and all that), though the person in question could certainly come forward themselves. I will say, though, that you must be the one who is plain nuts if you think Baley would send more than one set of orders! Why, that would require him to send in orders early! Think of the scandal!
  12. Looking at the map, Greece looks to be very interesting. Both Italy and Turkey can make supported attacks, but if both make them, neither will succeed. The only way to guarantee success is to involve that Austrian fleet. Of course, Austria has no reason to support either player, since Aishur will be eliminated this winter, having lost his last supply centre. In fact, the only move guaranteed to result in someone taking Greece successfully is for either Italy or Turkey to support Austria into Greece! :D
  13. If you think the moves that came out were crazy, you should have seen some of the ones one player in particular sent me. Every moveset but the last one was progressively more crazy than the last. Oh, and if you think about what moves didn't happen but could have, some of the crazy moves don't seem quite so crazy after all.
  14. Oh, I don't think anyone mentioned Serial Experiments Lain. It was the first anime I ever bought in Japanese, and it was woth every single penny. Words cannot describe how unbelieveably cool, confusing, spooky and above all totally awesome it is. I mean seriously, if you buy one anime, make sure it's this one. It beats the crap out of naything else mentioned on this thread, so awesome it is. Buy it. BUY IT.
  15. My gut feeling tells me no, but according to how I'm reading the rules, it is actually legal: "A unit ordered to move can only be supported by a support order that matches the move a unit is trying to make" This suggests that unless the order is the same as the support order, the support fails. However: "A unit not ordered to move can be supported by a support order that only mentions its province. A Unit that is ordered to hold, convoy, support or not ordered at all can recieve support in holding its position." This states that this does not apply to support orders themselves, so even if the orders would not be the same, exchange of support is legal. I'm convinced it's not, but I can't find a rule that agrees with me, so I have to assume that it is indeed legal. EDIT: But what I've just realised is that the reason it is legal is because it doesn't matter. Imagine the following situation: Austrian armies in Bud, Ser, and Gre. Russian Armies in Rum and Bul. Russia: A Rum H A Bul S A Rum Now, if Austria wants to dislodge A Rum, it orders: A Bud-Rum A Ser S A Bud-Rum A Gre-Bul A Gre-Bul cuts the support of A Bul, meaning that A Rum (now with a strength of 1) is dislodged by the supported attack by A Bud. Even if A Rum S A Bul, the support of A Bul is still cut, and so A Rum S A Bul has no effect on the outcome. So, exchanging support has no effect either because one support will be overpowered by a doubly supported attack, or because one support will be cut by an attack. Yes, it's legal, but it won't have an effect.
  16. All finished! Check the first post or your inboxes. And yes, I'd quite like it if you could GM, Arch. Or anyone else playing, for that matter. The more games I play, the happier I'll be. :D
  17. And done. I'll get everything done ASAP. Map's ready, just have to type everything up.
  18. I suppose that's true (and a very interesting concpet, multiple distributors), but you could always buy another Series instead. I know I've not bothered to buy several Manga on the basis that the translation was bad. But as I said, I phrased what I wanted to say poorly. I've seen plenty of good Fan translations and fansubs, and I've also seen plenty of bad ones. I didn't mean to say that Fan Translations were worse than commercial ones (though it certainly came out that way), only that this one wasn't as good.
  19. One way you could fill in the time is by starting a third game. Darque wishes she'd joined our second, I think I could handle playing or GMing a second game, and once Numbers sorts out his ISP trouble he'll be available. A Week might not seem so long if you were in two games.
  20. I usually find exactly the opposite to be true. The fan scanlations are usually of a much higher quality than the American distributors, mostly because the fan groups actually care about their work and audience. They do it for no monetary gain, simply for the enjoyment of others. Companies do it purely for monetary gain, and dont care about their audience in so far as it extends beyond their purchases. Either I just know a higher quality cadre of scanslators than you, or you know some that are below the norm I expect. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmm...put that one down to misphrasing. I meant to write "It's a fan translation, and not quite as good as the commercial one." The commercial translation of the Azumanga Daioh was of very high quality (with the Subtitles in the Anime being even better, as far as including translation notes, and the English dub supposedly being even better than the original Japanese, though I never watch dubs and so can't confirm it), and though there was one fan translation of it that was a bit better (it kept monetary references the same, and kept Yukari an English teacher instead of changing her to a Spanish one), that's gone now, and all the others have been a bit too literal in their translations, which you really can't do for a comedy. Incidentally, I fail to see how wanting to make a profit means the translation is worse.
  21. You simply must watch Azumanga Daioh. It is quite simply the best Japanese Comedy ever, at least if you have the same surreal taste in humour I do. Im not sure whether I like the Manga or the Anime better, though. Here! (It's a fan translation, so not quite as good as the commercial one).
  22. Well, according to my information, some people are still absorbed in Negotiation right up to the end of the turn, so no, I don't think that would be practical. It's probably just because you're Italy. Everyone wants Italy to go away in the first few years. But if you can convince everyone to agree to a new turn length, I'll change it. If you prefer, we could collect everyone's street addresses and lengthen the turn duration to one month like has been the tradition of the game for many a year. "
  23. Well, at the time the game was set, and probably at the time when the game was fist published, it was spelled Rumania in English. In any case, the u spelling makes it easier to remember the notation for Rome and Romania. Look at it this way: Only one letter is out of place for Rumania. The spelling mistakes in calling Britain England, or calling the Ottoman Empire Turkey are far greater! Every letter is wrong! Oh, and Mets, will people contacting you through the email button give you their email addresses?
  24. I'll admit that I often attribute a sex to someone based on their avatar as well. But I guess it doesn't mean anything. I'm not a stickman with a big "ME" beside me all the time But it was my creation, and I it nonetheless. Plus it helped me find my posts, and I figured after a year-plus with no avatar, perhaps I should finally join the club. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, at least it's not a picture of a guy who in the uncropped image is decapitating a scantily clad woman who is committing seppuku. It has been a while since I changed mine, though. Perhaps I shall do so in the morning.
