  1. Agreed, SP2 gets the blame of many faults with new games these days. I'm no Bill Gates fanboy for sure but please stop using SP2 as a scapegoat for lousy programming. This does not help us arrive at a solution to the problems we are experiencing. Trees and barking spring to mind. I voted only to help try and put this nonsense down once and for all. SP2 is not a new update anymore so devs should be well aware of any conflicts in advance, if they even exist at all. Upon it's fist release I installed it on top of an existing system with plenty of apps and games. Guess what, no probems whatsoever. Since then, I've reformatted and reinstalled with SP2 the first thing applied to this virgin install. Guess what, no difference to what I was used to before.
  2. I'd like to be able to play the game on my ATI card please.
  3. I'm assuming by didn't work you mean the game, not the driver modification process? I can assure you the latter works so if you ran into difficulties with this, I'd be more than willing to help you out. Well, I've now run out of options myself. So I can only: i) return game for a refund ii) wait for a patch, not knowing if it will even sort the issue out or not and/or iii) wait for the new Omega drivers, not knowing if it will even sort the issue out or not Option 1 is looking like the clear winner so far. Normally I'd be willing to wait but I've never seen a game as FUBAR as this one before. What puzzles me most is that the devs already knew about many ATI issues from KOTOR. From what little I've seen of the game and from reviews/screenies the game engine looks pretty much the same in TSL. KOTOR worked out of the box on my crappy Mobilty card and any minor bugs I experienced were shared by almost all users, regardless of card manufacturer. I'd have to say Obsidian / LA have simply got it in for ATI, if that wasn't being paranoid.
  4. Good luck Darth. I've tried the 5.2s myself and no go but others are reporting success with these (and then a further switch back to Cat 4.11 after the loading screen for smoother framerates).
  5. While it does seem to be a successful workaround for some, it's by no means a universal fix. So far Cat 4.11, Cat 5.2, Omega 4.1, Omega 5.1 have all failed to remove the BSOD for me. I've now resigned myself to waiting for a patch or possibly, the Omega 5.2s will sort it out when they are released. To be honest, I don't think having to change back and forth between two different driver sets is a very useful solution at any rate. My system is not used excusively for KOTOR and the Omega drivers have resulted in vast improvments in all other games I've played. It'd be a shame to have to go back to the buggy Cats, and screw up everything else on the HD.
  6. @9mak9, If you've never done this before, I suggest you download the software tool for doing this. It's called Dhmodtool and you can get the latest version here... http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/ It's very easy to use. Download the latest Cat drivers. Run the exe and allow them to extract to the default path (this is important). Do not try to install at this time...cancel. Run the modtool and select your card. Run ATI setup again and you should be good to go. If this doesn't work PM me and I can send you the modded infs or explain how to edit manually.
  7. As one of the unlucky who can't get past the black screen of death then yes, I'm hoping for a patch soon. Of course those who have it running may prefer a wait for a more comprehensive patch which is understandable. At the same time however, wouldn't a larger user base of players help to identify in-game bugs/glitches more efficiently? As a compromise I think some sort of non-nVidia owner hotfix should be the priority right now. Then we can ALL take it from there. Just my opinion.
  8. What, and miss out on the opportunity to scam all of us ATI users?
  9. Darth Somethingorother, yes at least they included an updater which is hopeful. I'm going to call the store I bought it from on Monday to see how long I get before the return expires (usually 7 days with games). Hoping we'll have either a hotfix or a statement from Obsidian or LA before then. If it were just in-game glitches I'd be tempted to keep the game and wait patiently but with an issue as serious as this, I'd be annoyed if I ended up out of pocket for a product that wont work at all. Frankly, I'm astounded that something like this could slip past QA, given that so many ATI users are reporting this error.
  10. So what if you don't have this dll or DVD Creator? Is this the best LA can come up with?
  11. Think I may have replied in an earlier thread to you 9mak9(?) but yes, the Cats will work with laptops. You do however, have to get a modding tool or edit the driver inf manually in order to install the drivers on Mobility cards.
  12. OK, got you. I'm referring to the graphics options avaliable through the game launcher, not in the game istelf. The menu that ask do you want to play, update, register, etc. Click on configure and try checking force software sound.
  13. 9mak9, you can mod the ATI Cat drivers to work with laptops i.e. Mobility Radeon. The relevant tool is aclled dhmodtool and a web search should turn it up. If you can't find it, it's easy to mod the appropriate inf file manually. As Darth says, Omega will probably put out Cat 5.2 drivers soon at any rate. Their current install is based on the 5.1 set.
  14. Sure, which part? Same here Hudson, including KOTOR1, which is why it's so frustrating.
  15. Was going to say earlier but thought it might sound condescending and make you even more upset/angry so please don't take it this way but are you sure you don't have sounds disabled in the splash screen config? Or try forcing software sound. As for my crashes being minor...I haven't been able to see a single in-game shot yet with or without sound. I'd happily trade places with you right now.
  16. I hope you are right SugarJunky. My concerns are not so much with Obsidian but with LA. As the publishers it's up to them if and when a patch is relased and they don't exactly have a good track record. KOTOR 1.03, while a vast improvement on earlier versions, contained many bugs that a lot of users had pointed out from the very start. I can only hope that LA are not stupid enough to completely alienate ATI users.
  17. I'm already crying
  18. Thanks for the suggestions there. I appreciate them but I've already tried 5.2, latest Omega, disabling videos/shadows/sound/etc, etc... All with no luck. From the latest posts it appears that the 5.2 drivers do sort out this issue in some cases, but not all. Interestingly, the problem seems to affect users across the whole spectrum of graphics card specs (from minimum required to kick ass) so could be a major ATI bug in the code. For now, I'll be patient and see if the devs come up with anything useful to say.
  19. Know the feeling mate. Been anxiously waiting for a solution to the intro movie crash. Thing is we're being left to our own devices for now and I don't expect other users to spend the day/night trying to sort out my own problems when they probably have their own right now. I'm going to give it a few days to see if Obsidian and/or LA are willing to comment officially on the serious bugs with this game. Are they fixable and if so will a patch be released? I feel that we should be told this as many of us can't wait forever at the risk of losing our money back from the stores we purchased from.
  20. Just saw this new post on the LA boards in response to the post intro crash. This is from the Admin... Yeah, yeah, it's the fault of the dumb old end user yet again. Of course we're all too stupid to have tried this already. I'm sure "Have you tried rebooting the computer?" will follow shortly. So, LA are either unaware of this problem (doubtful) or are stonewalling the requests for help. Whatever they are up to, doesn't look like a patch for this problem is coming our way anytime soon. I REALLY hope I'm way wrong about this but I do plan to return the game, before my money back expires, if there is no sign of a fix on the horizon.
  21. Disabling vertex buffer objects (or disabling sound, as someone else on the boards suggested) has no effect for me. Still crashes after intro. Looking at other posts it appears to be a bug which occurs after cutscnese. Anyone with this problem manage to load a savegame initially to verify this? As I don't have a savegame yet I can't try this myself.
  22. Great idea to start this thread. Hopefully a solution will present itself. ATI Radeon Mobility 32MB AGP Catalyst Drivers v5.2 (modded to install on Mobility card) or Omega Drivers v2.6.05a Error: Black Screen of Death after intro movie.
  23. Hi folks, My first post on these boards, so sorry it's a gripe. Looking forward to playing KOTOR2 today. Installed it, configured it, then fired it up and created a character. However, as soon as the SW title sequence is over (or I end it early with mouse or Esc), the screen goes black, and shortly after it the game crashes. During the black screen I can hear the background music and ambient sound effects. From the sounds I'd guess I'm supposed to be aboard the Hawk? I've tried both the latest ATI Cat drivers and Omega drivers to no avail. I've tried configuring the game to the very lowest settings and still I get the Black Screen of Death. I was able to run KOTOR1 smoothly on the same system. Does anyone know what the Hell is going on here??? Any help would be appreciated. I could use a quick answer here from Obsidian since I have a limited time window in which to return the product. Is it worth holding out for a patch???
