  1. Now this will probably be my last post on this board since I'm going into town in less than an hour to return TSL. I saw a thread on the LA site recently where someone said they would do this also. The site admin deemed this worthy enough for comment saying the user should contact tech support... Unfortunately, I can't justify spending thousands on a new laptop to play a
  2. Darth, if I had given you the money to begin I'd be in the same position I'm in now but without having spent days and nights trying to get this damn game to work. Anyway, thanks to everyone who's tried to help me out. Bye for now.
  3. Still the dreaded BSOD. Well, at least I now know it's time to give up completely. Can start thinking about what I'll spend my refund money on :D Thanks again Twin.
  4. The title says it all. Been trawling cheat sites with no luck so far. Can't get past the BSOD no matter what I try (ATI user here) but I've even seen users with on-board graphics being able to play after loading a savegame. Would be good to try this out just so I know if I'm flogging a dead horse here or not. Thanks in advance...
  5. Ahh, but how many are already considering a refund and having been bitten once, will opt for a pirate version IF a patch is released? I really don't see LA doing themselves any big favours here.
  6. Kiwigapa & airic, Normally I would agree fully with your level headed statements but the big issue for many users is limited time in which to return our game for a refund. I think what is p***ing most of us off is that neither OE or LA are willing to comment on whether a patch is actually in the works or not. We are being left completely in the dark on this issue. If it were any other publisher than LA, I'd be tempted to hang on but they don't exactly have a fantastic track record in the industry (and as an older gamer, I can remember way back and not just since the XBox appeared). If I were to voice my opinion of them I'm sure it would result in an instant ban, although it's tempting just to see if the mods actually exist. The fact there has been nothing but silence so far from OE/LA does not look very hopeful. If a patch was currently being developed or planned in the near future, where is the harm in saying so and puting the users mind at rest? I contacted my own game store to inquire about a return and I was told that they are already dealing with many irate customers seeking a refund on this title. LA may be too busy right now counting their loot but I predict that retailers will very soon be flooded with returned copies of this game. Perhaps then the devs or publishers might actually take some notice of us.
  7. Wow, thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'm currently on Cat 5.2 but have also tried 4.11 and Omega drivers (4.11 and 5.1). I've even tried installing the 4.11 OpenGL driver on top of the Cat 5.2s. Tried vertex off, also. Only thing I haven't tried is the load savegame trick. I can't progress far enough to actually save a game so that doesn't help at the moment.
  8. Tried a variety of graphics settings. It's quite possible they may sort out issues in the game but with the BSOD we can't even get that far. I've got a low end system by todays standards (P4 2.0 GHz, ATI 32 MB, 512 MB RAM) but I can still manage to play every other game smoothly and with decent settings (including KOTOR1). At the moment, I've even got Rome TW maxed out to the full in the settings department, running ever so sweetly, and it isn't supposed to run on anything less than a 64MB graphics card. OK, I'm not saying because everything else works that TSL should but I do suspect this cutscene transition is a bug rather than due to crappy hardware. It does affect high end users too. But, you're quite right about AA causing problems in general, especially on ATI cards. I do believe all of this effort is worth a try but we really, really need some comment from OE/LA regarding a patch right now. Just out of interest, I didn't really follow the KOTOR boards but would like to know if the devs were this tightlipped about possible patch development?
  9. AllowWindowedMode=1 under Graphics. Not everyone seems to need this. In fact some users are stuck in windowed mode and can't get out! Thanks for posting on other thread about the Mysterious Emmitters. Seems there might be differences between localised versions of the game. Probably harmless leftover stuff but doesn't help in trying to track down a cause for the BSOD. Too many variables as it is.
  10. A few users have posted their ini files in some recent posts. Been mucking around with my own and I noticed I've got a line that i haven't seen on anyone elses? Just wondered if this was unusual or even if anyone knows what it does... Emitters=1 in graphics, last line under Anti Aliasing=0 ???????????????????? Thanks for any help in advance. PS Have tried disabling/enabling and it doesn't seem connected with the BSOD. PPS UK version of the game.
  11. Hudson, try looking under the system devices tree instead. It'll be broken down into sub categories but it should be easy to establish the manufacturer from there. e.g. Intel or whatever. The BIOS setup screen might be able to provide this also.
  12. Darth Ni, if you're referring to an ini for windowed mode(?), I finally got it working by adding an extra command line noted above. It seems the required commands for this mode differ on other users installs (another bug?). It finally worked but with the return of the bsod. What's puzzling and interesting (for me) is that simply changing the fullscreen line does result in a brief glimpse of the in-game graphics, which no other method has produced. Have tried it several times with and without this line and it is reproducible, so possibly not a fluke. Probably clutching at straws here but Hell, I'm desperate. The Day of Refund looms ever closer (Sat) but don't want to quit just yet.
  13. Boss, just been browsing through your attached file. Please bear in mind I know squat about nVidia cards but I did notice your current desktop refresh rate is set to 75Hz but 60Hz in-game. Try setting these to the same value (shouldn't matter which you change) and see if this helps.
  14. Welcome to an ever growing club Boss. What's interesting is that you have a supported nVidia card. Not unique, but it's been largely an ATI fault so far. Have a look through the boards. Plenty of suggestions around and in a few cases, some success. Good luck.
  15. Ya, tensions probably are running a little higher than the norm on these boards. I think it's safe to say many ATI users feel shafted on this one. I know every other board has it's share of fanboys and trolls but I'm guessing it's a real tinderbox around here at the moment. Anyway, apologies again, but back on topic, anyone else had any success in windowed versus fullscreen mode or does this spark any fresh ideas?
  16. Darth, sincerely sorry if you or ayone else seeking help on this thread was offended by my last post but for someone to post a completely unrelated smug comment in a tech help thread is also unacceptable. It really serves no useful purpose. You are right, I shouldn't have risen to the bait of course but the other users on this thread helped me to make more progress in a few short hours than a whole weekend of messing around. In a roundabout way Craftsman's post brought up another issue I feel strongly about. The attitude of hey, it works for me so F.Y. This neither helps to relieve tensions or solve any technical problems. If this is how you feel then fine but please voice that opinion privately. I'm not making excuses for being rude but wouldn't it have been more appropriate and constructive for Craftsman to perhaps aid other users in having their own install running as smoothly.
  17. Reveilled, Same here! Last copy in the last store I tried in town. Damn, it felt so good at the time. Should have listened out for the sniggers as I left the store.
  18. justabloke, I hear you on the demographic issue. Trouble is that even as the younger gamers get older and wiser there is always a new generation of youngsters falling into the trap. Worse than that, many of todays younger players will have little or no recollection of the days when patches were readily available or not needed at all. Most of todays gen probably accept all of this as standard practise having little other expererience to base thier opinions on. I have to admit I was very foolish on this one and bought this title on the strengths of the original KOTOR which worked fine on my ATI card, even prior to patched status. Well, another lesson learned I suppose. Yes, I think piracy will get a whole load worse if publishers keep up these low standards. I have no sympathy whatsoever for them. Let them fall victim to their own greed and lack of foresight. I do have to say that there are a few companies still out there who actually listen to the customer and accomodate reasonable requests. It's these people that will be the success stories of the future (IMHO).
  19. Craftsman, your medal is in the post. Got any help / advice? No, didn't think so. Go hijack another post.
  20. Man, this just gets better and better. What version you running...US, UK, etc? Is there any significant difference we don't know about? (besides the now "patched" PDF document).
  21. Well rabit, your problem is fairly minor to what a lot of us are experiencing so don't be too quick accusing us of being harsh. The majority of ATI users can't run it at all! Or at least, get past character creation. Also, you might recall that a lot of ATI problems were solved through patches to the original KOTOR. If the devs had learned their lesson first time, then they wouldn't have to sort through all that code. All of this assumes they are even working on a patch at all. Perhaps if they were to let us know just what the hell is happening it would put an end to most of the complaints that upset you so much. Finally, are you blind or just too lazy to read the thread? See 5th post above your own... PS I'll sleep better at night knowing this...erm...thanks
  22. OK, had to add AllowWindowedMode=1 to the graphics options in the ini and now I have it running in a window. Well, the BSOD is back! Don't know whether to laugh, cry, or commit myself to the asylum.
  23. Nope, still no windowed mode. I'm starting to feel very brain dead here. If you can hang on for a moment let me go through this. FullScreen=0 (both?) and -w comand line switch. That everything? Oh, and I have set the resolution to 800x600.
