these are the minimum requirements for half-life 2 # 1.2 GHz Processor # 256MB RAM # DirectX 7 level graphics card # Windows 2000/XP/ME/98 the 7500 is a directx 7 based card (maybe even 8.1 not sure) and kotor2 2 MB OpenGL 1.4 compliant AGP or PCX 3D Graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L) Capability required. ATI Radeon 9200 or NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti or better recommended. the bottom of the box even lists the specific series of cards the game runs on, this should have given you an indication that the game probably wouldn't run also since they listed specific card series, any that aren't listed were not tested with the game at all half-life 2 ran so well because the 7500 doesn't have the ability to display any of the additional effects in the game, ie it would pale in comparison visually to a card that supported the game features fully also the game was actually built and tested to work with the 7500, kotor2 was not its their choice and your job as a consumer to make sure the product you buy is intended to work the way you want/need it to

do you have xp? goto control panel, admin tools, even viewer, then play the game till it crashes and look to see if anything was reported paste whatever happens here (hopefully something does) also have you scanned for spyware/adware and viruses with updated programs?

i have seen posts on this on the LA support forum, might want to check there http://forums.lucasarts.com/forum.jspa?forumID=50 i think i saw a temporary solution but yes, seems that the races there are bugged completely... it would never accept any of my times after i forfeited once even if i beat a top score wonder if it is only telos, don't see anyone complaining about the other ones *shrug*

i'm not sure if anyone 'owes' you a patch you purchased the product 'as-is' and agreed to that when opening the box (EULA) i agree there are issues and a patch would be nice, although i may be a bit lax on wanting one my problems are few and most of my reasons for wanting a patch are to fix in-game glitches, not any serious issues... just because i don't have them it would appear LA may be producing a patch instead of obsidian i can't be sure, that is just the feeling i get although it would be odd... i wonder how much of an actual hand they had in production of the game i would think they were more or less some influence over content because it is their license, and that they QA'd it and are now supporting it... i wonder if they had actual programmers on it though it would certainly put more clout behind LA producing a patch while obsidian is left to work on NWN2 i love KotOR2 but i really hope they do better with the scripting in NWN2... it is pretty bad in kotor2... it could be blamed on the animation but maybe it was hard to work with i assume they're using their own engine for nwn2? why have i rambled this long? -
The Last but sure way of getting KOTOR 2 too work
sanskrit replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
reformatting solves very little and is unecessary if you can properly troubleshoot i would never recommend a reformat unless they are running windows 98 or older, or take their PC away if they run ME there are situations where a system is unrecoverable or the time to clean it out is more than it would be to backup saves and reformat everything can be recovered from though, what if you didn't have updated motherboard chipset drivers? (few do) a reformat would not solve that -
Simple yes/no question before I buy...
sanskrit replied to Claws's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
From the posts on the LA forums it would seem they are collecting information on specific errors and that a patch is likely to come out it may very well be that obsidian will have nothing to do with supporting the game at ALL after launch and posting in these forums doesn't help them collect any information i figured they would be the ones patching, LA QA'ing any patches etc... it seems that may not be the case though i would rather have LA work on patches and keep obs focussed on nwn2! (w00t) -
i assume you guys saw the requirements and thought you could force the game to work on a 7500? more power to you, i just want to be clear... you look at hardware requirements on the box before you buy a game don't you?
-
no patch is going to help you look at the game requirements, look at your system, look at the requirements again, then your system.... try not to buy games you can't run time for a upgrade any way if you have a 7500, sorry.

when it crashes does it display an error? what kind of crash is it? blue screen? can you give us some error text to work with? it may help...

what does the blue screen say? it will usually have an error as well as sometimes reference a specific driver goto control panel, admin tools, event viewer, anything there for when it crashes? -
CRASH GORDON!!! Spolier..Kinda

holy spoiler alert it applies for tech support too -
as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to be related to any specific video card or graphics setting i could certainly be wron but i have a 6800gt and i get it too, it definitely isn't ati specific i'm running 1280x1024x85hz 4xAA 8XAF and everything else maxed/on I have tried messing around with stuff but since it seems so hard to reproduce faithfully each time, aside from skipping the intro movies (for me at least) I don't know if my small amount of testing proves anything. I have a feeling it is just an error with the game initializing direct3d. I also noticed a recent problem with the movies, there were long pauses between 'clips' of a prerendered movie that could not have been right. Can anyone else confirm that clicking rapidly through all of the lucasarts/obsidian movies at the beggining causes stuttering at the main menu?
-
I originally posted this problem here: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=29373 It seems I was mistaken on my correction and my original post was correct. While skipping the intro movies can cause this from the get-go, level transitions also seem to do it. Which is not reproducable in my experience. Skipping the intro movies is. Also disabling the movies as I said does not only disable the intro logo movies, but any movie during gameplay as well... so... don't do it unless you don't care. Best thing to do is not skip the intro logo movies and check/uncheck any advanced graphics options if you notice stuttering after a level transition. I use soft shadows but use whatever works. Also going through the transition and then back again will usually result in the stuttering going away. You can always tell if the next level load is going to stutter because the loading screen will 'blink' black once really quickly.

I'm sure a patch depends on the willingness of LA to QA one. Also probably dependant upon the sales of the game. Is the intent there though? Some are worried that there will not be any afterthought for the game. I assumed there would be but now they have me doubting myself. You will continue to support the game... right?
-
I think it would really be up to Obsidian if they choose to support their product. I respect each of the core members and where they came from and their past products. I can't be certain but I would assume they would hope to support their product after launch. If LucasArts simply says you won't release any patches then I assume it is ultimately LA's decision as they are likely the ones providing QA. I doubt they would do that. Unless sales are just horrible, I don't see why they wouldn't allow or encourage a patch.

Obviously programming has nothing to do with it though. It's the same engine, the same capability is there. It was a decision that was made to downsample the audio for the PC release. Saying the original KOTOR fit on 4 CD's makes no difference either. It's a different game, probably more conent. The models and textures look higher quality to me than KOTOR1. I assume you don't actually mean PROGRAMMING, just a poor choice. Programming has nothing to do with bitrate for audio that is obviously supported to be much higher as the engine has shown previously.

Game locks up at Hanger Bay sub-level
sanskrit replied to skycruiser's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Not sure if it is related but there is a problem when skipping the intro cinematics, at least was for me. I found a fix for my problem so I may be offering the same solution for different problems. Bare with me. Start the game and don't do anything, let all the movies play through. Then load your save and see if the same performance issues are there. There seems to be issues with ATI cards so there is a good chance my fix is unrelated to your issue. -
I don't pay huge amounts of attention to the music. I would never turn it off though. Subtitles are on by default for all the dialogue, how would you miss it? I'm guessing maybe it was to save CD space but I'm at work now, can't check the disc sizes. If there is less than a couple hundre megs to spare on any of the CD's then that may be why. It would be nice of them to release a high quality music pack but depending on the size it may be too costly to host... they should still put it on fileplanet or something.

Since I'm sure it was lucasarts QA'ing I doubt obsidian could catch everything. It remains to be seen if this is a widespeard ATI issue. May be something off with your specific system that LA just dropped the ball on. I'm not blaming Obsidian for anything that isn't proven to be a widespread and constant issue that they just shouldn't have missed. More than likely most issues are going to come down to poor QA. Which I doubt can be placed on Obsidian. Although I'm sure at the end it probably dwindled down to only a couple people working on the PC version. Hard to say if QA didn't catch it or LA just decided to sign off on a buggy candidate to get it on the shelves and patch it later. (hopefully)

I figured it out! Skipping the intro 'movies' causes this problem. I tested it many times. Skipping just the LA movie does nothing, but if you skip the Obsidian movie it trips out and causes the game to run choppy. (kind of funny actually I'm not even going to attempt to guess why this happens. After skipping the Obsidian logo movie though the nice 'loading' screen that appears a split second after flickers a bit. I still haven't tried other drivers but since this is completely reproducable (at least on my machine) it has to be able to be fixed. You can bypass this problem altogether by disabling the intro movies. Open your swkotor2.ini with notepad and under Game Options change Disable Movies=0 to Disable Movies=1 There is no way for this problem to occur now. Seems I was mistaken in my original post too. It must have started after playing the game the second time and skipping the logo movies. If you're having framerate problems try letting the intro movies play all the way through and see if it doesn't improve things for you.

I'm not sure what causes this but when I first started playing everything was fine. Pumped all graphics options up to max and ran smooth as silk the entire time. Until I got to... the second planet you get to (no spoilers in tech help please!). I was fine until a level transition and my fps was shot. If I had to guess it went to around 15fps. I played for a while, still playable so I ignored it. This problem also showed on the main screen, with the 'stone' guy. He was also exhibiting about 15fps and that is not an intensive scene. So I knew something was wrong somewhere. I turned off smooth shadows and everything was running like silk again! Then I decided to exit and reload... it was back to being choppy. So I turned smooth shadows back on, it was smooth again! What the crap is going on... It seems a graphics restart it clearing some issue that is happening on game start or level load. I am going to try some different drivers. 3500+ 6800GT running the 66.93's I know the 66.93's are unstable with a lot of stuff despite their whql cert. I'll post any update when I play around with this more. If anyone else experiences something similar please post your video card/driver version. I have a feeling a lot of the tech stuff is going on the LA forums, let's try to keep it here. If you're over there, tell people to come over here and post.

characters wont move after combat
sanskrit replied to sanskrit's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I found that this seems to be caused by either getting 'stuck' on an enemy corpse or from looting a corpse, or both. Saving the game, exiting, then loading seems to clear any 'stuck' issues. I think maybe the bouding boxes for enemies is not clearing fast enough after they die and you end up getting stuck in it when trying to run over/loot them. If anyone knows of or can find a console command toggle or clear corpses it may be a better fix until a patch is released. [edit] after becoming very briefly stuck on what seemed to be an open spot in the floor (no combat had taken place here at all) i retract my previous assumption it seems like the character is indeed becoming stuck, i have yet to be stuck long enough with multiple party members to see if switching between them allows me to keep running if anyone has experienced this and tested thoroughly please post your thoughts! i'm sure furgy and the crew want to know what's up -
I have a feeling I may be doing something wrong, but I don't remember the original kotor acting like this. After combat ends my characters won't move, I can't use the keyboard keys or the mouse left+right buttons to move forward. They seem to become unstuck after a bit but I just got the droid under my control for the second time (t4?) and after a recent battle he is not moving at all, no matter what I do. I hope it's just something I'm doing wrong. If not this is a pretty major bug.
