  1. Just for the record, some fights at the start of the game (temple of Eothas, Raedric's Hold, Endless Paths) are meant to be tried out from level four, five onwards. Apart from that, make sure to equip your fighter and paladin with sufficient strength, dexterity and perception so that their damage output will be sufficient to make aggressive monsters 'stick'.

  2. This sure sounds fun. I might adopt this party setup for my next playthrough. At the moment I'm playing a 'best of' setup with Fulmineo Prondroni, the Lady of Pain, the Darcozzi forward observer, the Darcozzi Commendatore, a storm caller ranger and the 'like a thunder druid' which proves to be extremely effective for all (non-dragon) encounters. But as in your example, the combat starts feeling a bit monotonous and I think a build which includes a zealous charge and a zealous endurance 'murder turtle' might do the trick :).

  3. What is this talk about pirate-stuff all the time. God dammit, keep that **** out of my Oldschool-fantasy! That **** is so lame and out of genre. If I want to play a pirate game with ship-fights, I would play Sid Meiers Pirates! or Monkey Island or a game of that kind. What is it with Americans and their fetish for piracy in classic fantasy. Oh yeah, right ...

Out of genre? You mean to say pirates are 'out of genre' for a FANTASY game? Surely, a fantasy game would be able to include anything fantastical and would not be limited to the conventions of high-fantasy alone?

And, why wouldn't you welcome a somewhat out of the box setting for a new role playing game? I for one would welcome a - partially - pirate like atmosphere, such as the single town of Brynnlaw in Baldur's Gate II, in a role playing game. And if the developers would like to add their twist to certain Arabian fairytales, including palaces, a princess and a genie (a soul caught in a lamp, why not?) I would be curious as to what they would make out of their attempt as well. Either way, there is no need to worry too much. Given from what I've seen from PoE and it's development process, I'm sure the developers at Obsidian would not include any partial lore or setting that would feel out of place in the overall lore and setting of the game.

    P.S.: not American.

  4. I think POE 2 could happen in the southern hemisphere, and be more nautical, with a ship instead of a stronghold, taking place in many cities and islands from Old Valia to Deadfire arquipelago and The White That Wends, and with much less abandoned dungeons and wilderness areas than we have today.

It would be a good change of pace, for most grand battles to happen not in dark ancient ruins and great fortresses but in harbours and palace courtyards in broad daylight, and for journeys to cross not deep forests and towering mountains, but pirate-infested seas and desolate glaciers.

This sounds wonderful, especially the part about harbours and palace courtyards. It immediately makes me daydream about the stories of 1001 nights and Sinbad the Sailor (particularly the movie with Douglas Fairbanks Jr.)

  5. I would love multiplayer for Pillars 2,even if it were to take the exact same form of the single player campaign. The reason I would like it is because I sometimes play Baldur's Gate II with my girlfriend and we have a lot of fun just enjoying the story together.

That said, I hear people talk about a slippery slope of implementing reactionary balancing changes based on community feedback purely for the sake of the supplementary multiplayer campaign, which would result in a poorer singleplayer gameplay experience. Was that a problem in the IE games? Or is that just fear talking? Because to me, I like the way the IE games played both single and multiplayer.

I for myself would also not support multiplayer if it would reduce the quality of the singleplayer game. That said, I will leave it up to the developers' judgment to make those choices which would result in the best and most fun game possible and be content with their decision :).

  6. I also enjoy starting over from scratch (level 1 rat killing madness), but I also enjoy maintaining a character connection, ala ImagiNation Network. Any Sierra fans here?

I second the rat killing xD. As far as Sierra is concerned, only in so far as it concerns Homeworld. I can't really remember any of their other titles that well actually.

  7. I very recently bought this game and what an utter disappointment it turned out to be. The fact that it was rushed and released well before it was ready is an unfortunate trend in the gaming industry. The thing that annoys me to no end is that you've released one expansion already and are currently working on the second, while the original game is still and unfinished, unbalanced, buggy mess. You fooled me once so, shame on me. It won't happen again. I'll never spend another penny on anything that comes out of your studio.

I'm sorry you had to feel that way. I played PoE right after it got released, enjoyed it immensely and didn't experience any bug of any sort. Suffice it to say that I don't agree with you that the game is 'unfinished', but as far as your own personal user experience goes : pity it had to be so unsatisfactory.

  8. I just don't sleep anymore. That way I'm able to do a lot of playthroughs and builds. ;)

And we appreciate you for sharing those builds with us man! Still, don't neglect your rest :)

As far as the topic is concerned, so far I have enjoyed full playthroughs more than trying out new builds. I've finished the game once on hard and am now working on a triple crown run with the standard companions. However, come WM2 I might restart, tinker with a few more builds and then create a fully customised party. Whatever virus it is that Boeroer has caught, it seems to be spreading...

  9. Here is an idea:

Add a Speechcraft type of skill (ala Elder Scrolls) only make it so that you gain levels in your Speechcraft based on how many conversations you interact with. In the PoE world it is possible to skip many side quests and tasks (eg, quests for NPC's like Aloth, Durance, Eder, etc). The only incentive right now is for some potential experience points, coin, items, and of course... story. However, if you're not interested in story (or if you've completed a side-story in a previous playthrough) then there is likely no reason to ever engage in more than half the side quests.

HOWEVER! If Speechcraft were a skill based on dialogue engagement, then that would be a high incentive to engage in every story/quest possible. It would satisfy the desire for realism wouldn't it? A character who completes the PoE campaign with very little side questing is not going to be as well versed in dialogue/conversation as another character who literally spoke with everyone.

This should definitely be a thing

Love your idea man. I agree, this should be a thing.

Nah, 99% of the time I just ignore you, so the last thing I'm going to do is trawl through pages of you following Sensuki around from thread to thread or whatever. Much as 99% of the time if there's a game I don't like I ignore it rather than wandering in to (not so) randomly diss it.

Just thought people who weren't aware of your background and chip on shoulder with respect to the Codex/ VD etc needed to know where you were coming from.

It's very common for a cheerleader to make these type of "follow around" claims on Forums. It's cute, but it blatantly ignores the fact that the troll (in this case, Sensuki), is posting the same thing everywhere all the time. So unless someone leaves the forum, if they respond to the troll then one of the troll's cheerleaders will be like, "why you following us around, bro?" lol

Since I've been dragged into this; I think Sensuki's custom title on the codex ("Cuck") was well earned and perfectly appropriate because he's acted pretty much exactly like a jilted lover
What does the word cuck mean? I've been trying to look it up, but different dictionaries provide me with different definitions.

    P.S.: @ Zenbane : Yay! Go DaoC : D.
