  1. I prefer if the enemies go down in 2-3 chops, but do a lot more damage in turn. The old style where you just trade blows for an hour makes you feel like youre slapping eachother with towels, not fighting with sharp pointy objects.

There are quite a bit of boss fights that take several minutes, because they just have so much HP. If I used the new weakening abilities more efficiently, they might be faster, but so far I've used my ability points on passive abilities, threat management, and healing. :/

EDIT: I've already encountered over a dozen chances for Faustian deals. I wonder if there's some sort of grand consequence for this stuff.

  2. The difference with combat in DAO is that enemies are even weaker this time around (DAO was apparently too difficult)

I don't think this is the case. Weak enemies still seem to be weak, but the tougher ones I still have to whack at for several minutes.

  3. I literally feel as if I don't have that many choices...PERIOD. To make it worse, the biggest quest thus far has you saving up for 50 GP...so you're afraid to spend the money you do get (though at this point I'm about to see what happens if I say...screw you quest...so what IF I NEVER get enough gold to pay up...I'm sick and tired of having that debt hang over me).

Spoiler: feel free to spend money on items. At least, if you plan on doing all the side quests.

I think the graphics are okay. The maps are okay. The city slowly unfolds as you explore areas, and talk to people, other areas of the city and outside the city are slowly revealed. Sort of like how you found areas in BG2.

I think the structure of the game is very reminiscent of BG2.

  4. i'm still looking forward to starting this when I get home. I am NOT looking forward to constant crashes. Particularly because the loading screens are apparently very long. At least FNV loaded up really fast after crashing.

I've had no loading time or crashing problems in the 10 hours I'm in. Only problem I've had is it sometimes turn from fullscreen to windowed mode when returning from alt+tab. :p

  5. Infinite exp glitch found. Maximum defence glitch found. Some people got no codes with their new copies. Had this not been developed by BioWare and published by EA, this game would have crucified.

DA:O still has unfixed infinite exp and infinite money glitches. So, nothing new there...

  6. :: shrugs ::

Then it's all over for gamers who don't want to play lowest-common-denominator games I guess.

It's not that bad. Having an approachable difficulty curve isn't some big offense. What's the real complaint?

If what they're saying means that they're getting rid of character creation, and putting more options inside the game, I'm all for it. I hate when games make me restart them N times just to find out what all the options in character creation actually do.

  7. DA:O archers were insanely powerful if spec'd right, unless you mean enemy archers.

Really? Guess I never spec'd Leliana right. I always found Zev as a duelist more useful then Leliana as an archer. Will have to roll an Archer next time I play DA:O.

Archers in DA:O are rather badly designed. Most of their talent are completely useless, but Scattershot is rather overpowered.

In Awakening, the same trend continues, expect the talent Accuracy now gets archers God Mode. Attack and DPS 1.5 to 2 times that of a melee DPS Warrior, with >75% crit chance? Right-o.

There's a good article on how to build effective archers using their passive abilities on the DA wiki: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Archery:_A...icient_Approach

  8. Isn't the whole dialogue symbol thing supposed to track player characterization or whatever? I remember reading that the response style you choose will have effect in the long run, so that if you choose (for example) peaceful lines, you'll have peaceful solutions to some later quests.

  9. Shandyr from the BioWare forums said...

    Hey guys,

I've just got the brandnew PC Games and I want to share with you what they say about Dragon Age 2:

    <SNIP>

    - and an absolute unsatisfying ending

I wonder what they mean by that. I was going through various scenarios in my head, and the worst I could come up with, was that after the fight with the big boss, the screen cuts to Varric and Cassandra, they turn towards the camera, and say: "And for the continuation of the story, buy the DLC out in late 2011!".

  10. I forgot, i hate they made the sister die if you choose to be a mage. :/ I like her more than the annoying brother. Feels like OBSs Handmaiden/Apprentice thing in KOTOR2. I hope there'll be a mod to change that.

I doubt the other one is going to live long either.

In any case, seeing as people are already complaining about this on the BIO boards, I'm sure there'll be a mod.

  11. Is it just me or is the mage as overpowered as it was in DA:O or even more?

    Yes.

I thought they were going to bring the rogue and warrior a bit up to par, but that just seems to mean the rogue archer is now also overpowered.

Mages to me seem the same they were in DAO: high DPS, but very weak against attacks.

Archery was extremely overpowered in DAO:Awakening, so it's more about bringing it down. :p

  12. The final implementation for auto-attack on console is actually a toggle

in the options menu, if I recall correctly

does it mean there's gonna be button-mashing on consoles?! this isn't fair :)

Yeah, I want button-mashing for PC too. :ermm:

BTW, about the camera, some gameplay videos have shown different angles, so I guess the final version will have other views too?

  13. I don't like the look of the spell icons and that jazz, it doesn't really seem to fit with the world.

the redesigned icons are actually very bad, because I can't understand what they stand for without looking it up in the skills window, it would help immensely if it said what the icon stands for when you held the cursor over it.

    It does for me? :)

  14. Does anyone care to comment on the quality of plot development later in the demo? I mean the stuff with Isabella.

That part was so short, that you can't really tell much. You can also see it on the latest developer video.

  15. Watch the XP turn out to be 1/20th of level 1's progress. Totally worth it.

Oooh, just like the ring in DAO that gave you +1% XP, but only worked when you got a reward of at least 100 XP?

Anyway, played the demo, was nice enough. Only bug for me was at the tactics screen, where clicking on stuff brought up wrong drop-down menus and whatnot. I liked that battles were a bit more fast-paced now, and especially that swinging a two-handed weapon doesn't take 5 seconds anymore. Some of the abilities seem a bit funny though. The warrior's rush or whatever is nice, but kinda stupid when an enemy is on a different elevation and you ram into the wall. Also, Shield Defense seems to limit attacks to only a basic thrusting attack, which makes long battles really stupid looking. Harder monsters in general seem to have so many hit points that it looks like you're whacking them the whole day... But this might just be my limited experience playing a Warrior.

  16. Yes, the combat is more fluid. It's also easier in general. Combos are available right off the bat (I like this) but the mage AI is aggressively stupid* and using a power will sometimes cause you to stop attacking.

Will the full game have combat tactics configuring like DAO?

  17. I'm sure that scene will turn out to be something a lot more boring than the stuff people come up with. :p

can we name our npcs? if so then i'm naming that elf chick aerie. she looks like she just lost her wings.

99.999% you won't be able to.

  18. Sign me up for the charts, too.

If the game doesn't tell them to me, I'll read about them online anyway. It's just annoying when I have to read the workings of the game somewhere else than the product itself.

I remember when, during the development of Lionheart, this was requested, and the lead developers said "players actually want to know that stuff?". I'd be really surprised if some people at bioware wouldn't have figured it out by now after N games.

  19. I find it funny that Hawke doesn't think it's necessary to wash his face before laying with somebody he presumably cares for.

Or he just hit her a bit too hard.

Now, let us contemplate what the blood on female Hawke's face is.
