China can tweet whatever it likes, no one is stopping them.

Morrison is trying to stop them.

Twitter keeps fake China image despite PM Scott Morrison demanding removal.

Overnight, despite pleas from both Mr Morrison and government officials, the image remained available.

I'm sure tweeting out photoshopped images and the like...

The picture of an Australian soldier and the context of warcrimes is not a photoshopped image. It's a political cartoon created by a Chinese artist (Fu Yu — political computer graphic artist behind the image, who is also known online as Qilin) expressing his political opinion which the Chinese artist has done on many occasions in the past with his political cartoons. The Chinese artist's work was seized upon by a Chinese official and tweeted on twitter. Basically the Chinese offical trolled the twitterverse to get a bite and he got the biggest bite with some world leaders, politicians, political commentators and the media. Morrison got trolled hard.

For decades, we've (Australia) always made political cartoons of other countries including the USA. Now countries are making political cartoons of Australia calling out our hypocrisy. This to me is the main issue. Everything else (like what other countries has done in the past) is noise and distraction. Bringing up what China has done in the past is just a red herring. China should be allowed to tweet political cartoons and criticise other countries just like Australia does. Australia isn't innocent and We shouldn't be trying to censor China. We're going to see more politicians and Morrison being trolled and offended by political cartoons and the rest of the world (especially China) will be laughing at us.

Also, from Chinese state media: A Chinese artist expressed his anger and condemnation against Australian troops’ war crimes with a cartoon. A Chinese diplomat put it on Twitter. They are practicing their freedom of speech. Ridiculously, such moves are intolerant to Australia.

Chinese netizens combined the artists's new picture with his previous one and the photo of the SAS with the nazi flag to make one complete picture.

    Another one with Morrison:

Fox News' internal polling and projection models are among the best in the business - everything else, not so much. I think their projection of Arizona probably stays correct, but it was premature.

I read somewhere (maybe NYT) that a few counties in Arizona such as Maricopa (Phoenix), Pima (Tucson), Coconino and another favoured democrats and judging by the counting at the time, Fox and AP called it early with their projections.

I’m going to be an expert on Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Nevada electoral maps after this. Have to admit a lot of us now understand the US system whereas before we didn't really give a hoot.

  4. Georgia is like watching two 6 year old, arthritic, two legged horses racing at the moment.

Also, thousands of votes to be added to Georgia's count.

Given how Trump feels about the military and a pre-poll (take with a grain of salt), who knows how this will turn out.

While I haven't watched it, with a starting point like that it is massively likely that it's been cut and recut to produce the interviews that he wants.

Well the science is compelling with splicing the virus, S proteins and things like HIV. The scientists and research heads find it unlikely that it was a natural jump from bats to humans. And it shows all the information that backs the research has been going on for years. Not one person has refuted the science presented - except for China.

"...many questions remain about the origin of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus..."

    Sounds legit, much scientific.

I was only interested in the science which the doctors were discussing. The guy in the documentary comes across as a tool with his propaganda.

  7. This documentary asks a lot of valid questions on the origin of the virus. It's well known for months that there were no bats being sold at the wet markets and the lab was always in the spotlight. But it's interesting the science of the virus shown in this.

The supermarkets in Australia don't give refunds on toilet paper or hand sanitiser. Also, many people in Australia report price gouging on sites like ebay to get the over priced toilet paper taken down and is very successful. It's basically a FU to these people. No sympathy at all.

  10. Setting up an old Win98 pc. Managed to get everything working and hooked up to the internet. Since my router is in another room and wasn't sure if a wireless usb adapter would work on this, I instead set up a spare wifi extender that I had and set it next to the pc. I then ran a network cable from the pc to the wifi extender, Ping is a touch high but I now have broadband on my old pc. lol.

    image.png.528a209a798fec59d2cc26eece4f5023.png

Also, using something called KernelEX to run Win 2000 / XP versions on Win 98 and it works quite well.

I did find it funny transferring some old programs from another pc with a 64gb usb drive. I forgot it was NTFS and while the pc recognised the drive, I couldn't see the files. I facepalmed and said, FAT32! ugh! After reformatting the usb drive to FAT32 and transfered the files, I noticed my usb drive was bigger than my 40gb HDD.

Really fun playing around with an old computer to see what it can run. The specs are quite reasonable for this pc and managed to get all the hardware to work. Fantastic playing this on a modern monitor. Plus I have a tonne of old games I can play.

  11. It appears the U.S. may be under reporting deaths attributed to Covid-19. Now we can’t trust the US figures to give an accurate case fatality rate. I would’ve thought the US was better than this.

    https://gothamist.com/news/surge-number-new-yorkers-dying-home-officials-suspect-undercount-covid-19-related-deaths?fbclid=IwAR2mGBe0LP6BlcMs3tWPkIqesxVtxuEXN1JYKZkNTPZRRjCP982OMswlr-w

The FDNY says it responded to 2,192 cases of deaths at home between March 20th and April 5th, or about 130 a day, an almost 400 percent increase from the same time period last year. (In 2019, there were just 453 cardiac arrest calls where a patient died, according to the FDNY.)

That number has been steadily increasing since March 30th, with 241 New Yorkers dying at home Sunday — more than the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths that occurred citywide that day. On Monday night, the city reported 266 new deaths, suggesting the possibility of a 40% undercount of coronavirus-related deaths.

“There’s no doubt we’re undercounting,” said City Councilman Mark Levine, who chairs the city’s Health Committee. “If the person had a confirmed test result before death then they were marked that was the cause of death on the death certificate. If someone did not have a confirmed test but it appears they had the symptoms, then OCME will flag them as a ‘possible’ [COVID death]. It’s unclear to me whether those are being counted in our total stats.”

I think a lot of people are experiencing similar issues.  I know a lot of people at work, for example, had dual monitor setups but don't have that at home.

I can understand the frustration. It was the opposite for my girlfriend and myself. We've had multi-monitor setups for years at home and only had dual monitor setups in the office for about 5 years in our current jobs. For us, it was a breeze to set up a work laptop to act as a CPU and hook up keyboard, mouse and dual monitors to simulate a work PC without having to take desktop computers and monitors from the office.

I'm really loving working from home. Being able to wear shorts and a t-shirt while working and taking breaks whenever we want without someone looking on. Also, we can finish our work within a few hours and do other personal stuff instead of having to sit in an office for a full day where sometimes there may be a lull in the work and twiddling your thumbs, waiting to go home.

  13. Since working from home this week, I've been busy sorting stuff out to work on different projects in my spare time. The double garage is converted into an open plan home office with three computers desks, ten cabinets, some small tables and various other things. The entire garage has carpet tiles so it looks like an office. It feels so weird to be able to sleep in and just walk downstairs into an open plan office and start working. But it's great to take a break and watch some YouTube videos or work on something else in my own time for an hour or so and then go back to work. There's a lot of retro gaming projects with old computers and game systems that I've been working on. Also, been going through my comic book collection.

  14. This is a fascinating video of how South Korea is containing the virus (and why it wouldn't work in the U.S.)

    Key Points:
Masks work and the public is encouraged to wear them in public. They don't listen to the WHO.
It costs $140 to take a test. If you test positive, the test is free.
All returning passengers are tested and taken to an area to wait for their test.
It takes 6 hours to get your results.
If positive, they are taken away.
If negative, they go home to self isolate. An app is installed on your phone.
They need to update the app twice a day. If you don't update, they call you to find out why.
If you leave your house, the app sounds an alarm and alerts the authorities.

  15. A short 5 ½ minute video with a doctor showing what's it like in one of the hospitals in NY. This was a couple of days ago but things are probably worse.

    Some points from the video:
refrigerated truck for the dead bodies
person in car accident came into emergency and his chest scan showed symptoms of covid-19. First responders/civilians at a scene of an accident may not know a person is infected.
Not enough equipment including N95 masks

  16. In Australia, we're a few weeks behind Europe and the U.S. but our trajectory is probably on the same curve as France. One reason why we're so behind is because it was Summer here and many were aussies travel overseas at the time. We're seeing a lot of people come back over the last few weeks and continue to see travellers come back. It was a misconception that the Southern hemisphere was doing better because of the warmer climate, but in reality the virus just didn't get here until later.

I don't get what the fuss is about. Sure, if you have multiple diseases and/or is very old (80+) you ought to be worried, but for everyone else, it's no big deal.

Well, there are hundreds and thousands every year dying from the flu (again, people with multiple diseases and the elderly) and so far that hasn't lead us to buyng toilet paper in panic. I get it that it's important to keep diseases in check, that is all fine, but the panic is just utterly stupid. If you are in panic now, you should have been in panic all days and years prior to this date, and you should keep being in a state of panic for the rest of your life. But it won't do you any good.

I don't think these posts are going to age well.

  18. In Sydney Australia, I saw the panic buying in January and started prepping in February. A lot of people don't realise the panic buying started earlier than a couple of weeks ago. It was only when it hit supermarkets that people started to take notice because that was when it affected them - it was happening earlier than that. Most people just either ignored it, didn't take notice or laughed at the preppers. I also had my girlfriend watch Contagion (2011) back in Feb so she understood what was going to happen. Panic buying (which we were seeing in hardware stores at the time) would happen in supermarkets in a few weeks, stock market crash and maybe a run on the banks. So we transferred all our super to cash and got out of the stock market. At the moment, we don't need to go to the supermarket for another 3 months.

There's also a misconception between hoarding and prepping. When we were prepping, we we buying two or three packs of 18 roll toilet paper while there was still 30-40 packs on the shelf, 4 boxes of tissues while there was still 200 boxes on the shelf,  4 packs of milk powder while there was still 30 packs on the shelf, and so on. Buying two to three times more is prepping, clearing out the entire shelf is hoarding.

Now what we did as prepping would be seen as hoarding by some. No it's not. Also, the preppers finished prepping at least 2 weeks ago.
