  1. 80% of Australians support an R18+ category though Dan - from the government's own poll! :D
  2. Indeed. I think this is a good thing. What I'm far more annoyed about is the stupidly large increase in university fees for UK students. University should be free or heavily subsidised. Find other spending cuts to make you bastards, like this ship! Of course it should. Because universites don't cost anything do they? I mean, all those professors and lab intructors and campus staff, they work for free right? Capus facilities and equioment like research labs and the money to fund them, that just grows up from the ground right? The day college is free is the day a degree becomes worthless. I've seen you critisise others for having an uninformed outsiders opinion on the U.S - let me tell you your comment shows me you know nothing about our university system. Not a thing. I did not mean to imply otherwise. I was just annoyed by Krezack whining about how other people should be paying his way. Learn how to read please.
  3. Shouldn't your cricket team have it's own website called Wicket-Leaks? Bada-bisch! I'm here all week! I am soooooooo sick of hearing about the cricket! Gosh, the winging and whinging in our newspapers is far worse than the fact we got trounced.
  4. This is a logical fallacy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_emotion
  5. Julian Assange is an Australian citizen who has not broken any Australian laws. He is also not the leaker - he is the leader of a media organisation, WikiLeaks. Australkia is now providing him consular assistance in his legal case with Sweden.
  6. If the USA manages to make a length of rope, or a bullet or a syringe more expensive than the admin then that's their business but not particularly efficient. Incidentally, my post wasn't aimed at all of you. Mainly Krezzie, bless him, whose adolescent liberalism always seems to grip my turd. Nice attempt at pigeon-holing me, but the death penalty is an apolitical issue mate. Got anything else besides scientific fallacies about genetics?
  7. Unless you feel that the justice system will ever become flawless (I'm not holding my breath), then supporting the death sentence means you're okay with the occasional innocent person being executed. And being against the death penalty means you are ok with any further murders against prison guards and other inmates. The death penalty isn't just handed out to every murder... it requires 'aggravating circumstances'. Saying 'then supporting the death sentence means you're okay with the occasional innocent person being executed.' is like saying you are ok with alcohol consumption even though 40,000 people a year are killed by drunk drivers. Was this post deliberately meant to lack logic?
  8. I've been hanging around a lot of libertarians and anarcho-capitalists for the past few years now, and while I argue with them quite often about economics (I'm economically centrist - I'm a huge fan of evidence-based policy and loathe the central planning tendencies of socialists as much as I loathe the completely laissez faire approach of libertarians), we almost always agree that impingement on civil liberties is a universally bad idea. My environmentalist friends are also all strong civil libertarians (actually pretty much everyone I know from my generation is). So I don't think this is anything new. I've just become more vocal about it lately. What I have a problem with regarding the death penalty is: a) risk of error, b) I value humaneness, and I believe the alternative is more humane - life sentencing, and c) it's government-sanctioned murder - it's a government deciding who is and is not worthy of living, and we've seen multiple times in the past the government has gotten this one wrong. As a final point, it's hard for the West to pressure China about its human rights abuses (in this case the huge number of people it executes each year) when the premier Western super-power is still executing people (even if those people tend to be far less controversial - murderers rather than political dissidents and tax evaders). Also, this isn't strictly true, as left-wing chicks fall for me first. And the physical sciences kind, not the liberal arts kind. Can't really hold a conversation about science too well with that lot.

Capus facilities and equioment like research labs and the money to fund them, that just grows up from the ground right? The day college is free is the day a degree becomes worthless. The services they provide to society and the economy as well as upward mobility opportunities to individuals far outweigh the benefits. But I would expect nothing less from a fringe laissez faire extremist like you. In Australia almost all universities are government owned. They are very autonomous and provide heavily subsidised fees to university students. They run as businesses and consistently tend to make profits each year (from research monetisation and non-subsidised international student fees) which are funnelled back into research and service upgrades. Last I checked Australia had the highest percentage of the population with university qualifications of any country in the OECD. Perhaps if America wants to improve its standing in the world for education and scientific advancement it could take a leaf from our book. But with people like you chanting "DOWN WITH GOVERNMENT" at every opportunity, I doubt America will be able to stem its downward slide in this area any time soon. Perhaps the only the rich should be allowed an elite education would you say?
  10. Hmmm. I could easily see it happening. And truth be told I guess I'd prefer it to Activison or EA buying them! Would still prefer they remained independent.
  11. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...yers-argue.html One of the more interesting bits: Do the right thing please, America. Map of death penalty in states currently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Death_pe...ited_States.svg

  13. So the Federal Government is now fully in support of removing game censorship via introducing an R18+ category: http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/games/b...1206-18lkz.html They're speaking common sense, too. Figures considering the huge number of submissions they got in support of the category.
  14. What if the attractive lesbians are your friends and make out with each other pretty hardcore to tease you when you go to the swimming on the coast with them?
  15. Juicy juicy WikiLeaks news for anybody interested in China. http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/politics/rud...tml?from=smh_sb
  16. Give me a pint of Kilkenny or a nice Merlot any day.
  17. Anyway guys, please cease discussing paganism and religious history in this thread. It is designed for discussion of science, religion's roll in science, as well as genetic engineering and food security/scarcity in general.
  18. Yeah Steam customer service is all bark until you deal with them and realise they're secretly all warm and mushy on the inside.
