Since play style affects playing time significantly, instead of trying to come up with an absolute figure, why can't the gameplay be quantified in relative terms such as, "about 75% of the length of KOTOR-II"? I'm sure this statistic would have a lot less variance than an absolute length-of-game estimate.

Intel's Conroe should arrive in about 3-4 months. Same timeframe for AMD's socket AM2. I believe the shipping of DX10 GPU's (nVidia G80, ATi R600) will coincide with Vista's shipping (end of 2006, hopefully?)

How much are you looking to spend on the video card? IMO currently ATi have better high-end and low-end products (X1900 and X1300) but nVidia have better mid-range products (7600GT etc.) ... although you'd probably be hard pressed to find a difference gameplay-wise. Brute-force peak frames-per-second wise, nVidia newest GPUs probably score higher but such scores are quite pointless. Keep in mind that only the newest ATi cards will give you the ability to run HDR simultaneously with Antialiasing (exception: HL2's HDR implementation runs with AA on all current cards). For Video processing, I seem to remember a review or too declaring nVidia's PureVideo's de-interlacing quality to be superior to ATi's Avivo. ATi may have fixed their bugs with the latest driver revisions, though.

I guess it's really bad on a SDTV, cause in HD, nearly every 360 game is incredibly clear. Same will be said about the PS3. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wouldn't teh jaggies even more pronounced on a crystal-clear HDTV? Perhaps the increase in resolution makes up for it. I have no clue, I only have an SD.

IMO (speaking from personal experience here) while that approach sounds good in theory it doesn't work out that well in practice. By the time you want to add in your second card, you'll find that you'll probably get better bang for your buck if you ebay off your existing card and buy a new single card with all your cash. That way, you'll still have your second slot free, so in future you can add a card that matches the capabilities of your new card... and the recursion continues... :D Other than the upgrade path, at any point in time, given a particular price point, you will always see that a pair of cards gives you less performance than a single card. My belief is that SLI/Crossfire serves only one market segment - the ultra high end.

Yeah, I can't stand teh jaggies either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can't stand XB360 because every game I played on it has jaggies It's sad... especially after MS claimed that a minimum design requirement for every X360 game was that it should run at 2xAA (was it 4x?) at full playable frame rates.

I'm at work, couldn't watch the feed... can anyone sum up the general consensus? I couldn't make out from your brief responses... If you ignore the Sony-Devil links and price factor for a moment, how do the games and the platform seem to stack up against each other?

Obviously, this is Intel's next-gen vs. AMD's current gen. Did anyone else feel that those presenters (especially the Brit guy) had a somewhat guilty and shameful look on their faces when they were presenting the controller?

My guess is that for a lot of games you will be able to transfer the functionality of one of the sticks onto the gyroscope if you so desire.
