  1. So the first thing I did when I finished downloading the game was poke around in the game directory files to see if there was anything I could mess with in terms of audio files.

    Pillars of Eternity II > Pillars of Eternity II_data > StreamingAssets > Audio > Windows > Voices > English(US)

So I gleefully started making a mess (making sure to save backups, of course) and had SOME success.

There's a folder in there called "narrator" and while deleting everything inside did not remove ALL of the voiced narration in the intro, it did remove most of it.

My other goal was to switch Xoti's voice files with one of the defaults for the female player character, but that didn't go as well. :(

I crash to the main menu when I try to enter the map where you meet and recruit Xoti.

Still, I thought I would point this out to people looking to make some changes to the audio. Cheers!

REMEMBER TO SAVE BACKUPS OF EVERYTHING!

EDIT: I managed to get past the obstacle with recruiting Xoti, and the voice set I swapped in for her seems to be working! But now, when she has a conversation available (the little text box over her portrait) I am unable to start the conversation.

  2.

Piggybacking off of this, I'd like to know if it's possible to turn off VO but still have music, sound effects, and combat barks?

In the sound settings, there is an independent 0-100 scale for "Voice volume". Turning down that to 0 will likely have the effect you desire.

Unfortunately, this also disables the barks you get when you click on characters or give them a command (which I would like to keep)

  3. Can't you just use weapon sets? It makes far, far more sense from a mechanics perspective to simply have a weapon set for your melee weapon and one for your ranged weapon. It's going to give huge advantages compared to the dual-wield approach.

If you think about it this is how your character would actually fight, anyway. Nobody is going to literally hold their pistol in one hand while fighting with a one-handed weapon in the other. It would be incredibly clumsy and inefficient.

I don't want realism, I have real life for that. I want to look cool.

  4. I tried Rogue/Beguiler since I wasn't intending to use the Cipher's "Shred" spells much anyway.

I was using hirelings as analogous to my preferred Deadfire companions as possible (Fighter, Paladin, Priest, Wizard) so unfortunately I didn't get the Sneak Attack bonus unless I opened the fight with Phantom Foes or positioned my characters to flank an enemy.

I was having trouble with Eyestrike (the Blind effect never triggered) so that was a bit annoying as well.

Having the longer range for the "Deception" spells that help me qualify for Sneak Attack (Phantom Foes, Mental Binding) was helpful since my character is squishy.

I was worried about having enough Focus so I took Draining Whip, but after reading Boeror and Gromnir's posts I'm thinking it might be better to take the extra damage from Biting Whip.

I really want to keep my rapier and pistol combo, but I'm not sure if I should dual-wield them or put them in separate weapon sets. It's kind of annoying trying to get my character to switch from ranged to melee when dual-wielding, but the Two Weapon passive is so good compared to the others!

  5. The game is a VERY different experience for someone trying to Triple Crown Solo than it is for someone who is playing the game on Classic with companions.

If you want to TCS you have to do everything by the book (and get lucky with rolls) which means there is only one way to play. Personally that sounds incredibly boring to me, but obviously a lot of people enjoy it.

Balancing a game around TCS players would make for an AMAZING experience for TCS players at the expense of everyone else (players like me) so I disagree with a lot of NC's points on principle.
