  1. This is one the (many) things which make the end of this game incoherent (and give the obvious feeling the game was rushed so LA could sell it to north american XBox players...).

An official content patch which fixes the End would be welcome. However some fans are trying to fix this by thelmselves and you can see their progress on this forum.

  2. Just on the other topic about "who would work for obsidian now" - I believe the company that recently went bust that did the 'Thief' series (can't remember the dev now)  has all of it's sacked stuff going over to Obsidian.

I did not heard this. As far as I know, the two Smith left Ion Storm Austin in Sping 2004, then Warren Spector (founder of Ion Storm Austin) left in Fall 2004 and created Junction Point Studio. Some of the other leaders of the team left Ion Storm Austin and joined Midway Austin. Then Ion Storm Austin was shut down by Eidos last february (Ion Storm's owner, in financial difficulties; it'll learn them not allowing developpers to take the time needed to make a game, especially a Deus Ex or Thief class one) and the remaining workers moved to Crystal Dynamics studios.

But a lot of Obsidian employees are coming from Black Isle Studios, which may be the source of your error.

  3. I was satisfied with the game during the 90 first percents of the game. The scenario which is almost all the interest of a KotOR game was one of the best I've ever seen in a game (with, guess what, Planescape Tormet's). Unfortunately as soon as I reached Malachor it began to be plain incoherent regarding how the game ends. A lot of my friends thought there were a least 4-5 hours more before reaching the end and were as disappointed by the actual end as I am.

It has been obviously completely rushed just to please the North American XBox owners with a game for Christmas... The game lacks at least three months of polishing. The worse thing is that none of the "professional tests" I've seen spoted this issue...

Technically, when I played and finished it, I thought "very encouraging beta". Now it seems most of the technical issues are or will be fixed with patches, which is a great thing indeed.

But in my opinion, KotOR II will be as good as the first one only if something is officially done about the totally incoherent ending.

I answered "yes on PC" because the overall impression is very good.

  4. Here is the real reason : He got Bastilla pregnant, but did not have the fund to raise the child, so he stole Jolee's retirement fund. Unfortunately, the old man died and as a light side character, he felt guilty. Then he had fear to not be able to raise correctly the coming child an went to the outer rim to make a new life.

  5. As we've seen it, it seems that LucasArts is not very fast to release patches. For them "soon" means at least one to two months... And you should try to sneak in the root of LA FTP site, I think I've seen internationnal versions of the patch there.

  6. You would expect testing a few file replacements to go rather quickly. It is odd that Lucasarts seems to be giving the patch QA a finer comb then some would claim the game has received."

But hey, since NWN2 has internal testing it should be less subject to politiking, in theory at least

They don't seem to have tested KotOR II before its release, it is never too late to make good...

  7. So, Obsidian, is it okay that we're doing this?

As long as it's not commercial, the translation-patching can't be illegal, right?

Can we have your permission or something?

They do not own the Star Wars license and they don't have any rights to decide this. As you said it, I think LA will tolerat amateur translations as long as they're not commercial. It you want an approval for translating, you should mail to LucasArts.

  8. Yes, you'll need some hard drive space on the partition where Windows is installed, and yes, its does the things properly when installing, with a lot of backup in case you would uninstall it and so on. I think the Windows Update function should give it to you automatically now. It's quite usefull.

  9. If you don't have Service Pack 2 install it now. Ati recommends using it with their drivers and Microsoft does not support anymore Windows XP without Service Pack (1 at least, but they prefer you have SP2). And anyway, there is quite a lot of security improvements with this service pack, which is for the best.

  10. Thats funny,I was thinking K2 was better suited for console over PC,funny little conicidence.

From what I've heard and played about the two KotOR, the gameplay seems me quite PC oriented, with an obvious console feeling on certain things such as UI, lack of written texts... But I would feel terrible if I had to play it on XBox and fight.
