  1. After cancelling Pea****, I signed up for HBO/Max ad-free. Despite the price, it seems to have a pretty extensive catalogue, I'd be tempted to say larger than Paramount+ and Pea**** put together. Currently I'm re-watching season one of Deadwood, which, despite the foul language, is pretty good drama. I never saw seasons 2 & 3, so those will be fresh. Can't wait to see the kidney stone episode, since I tend to pass the Gravel once or twice a year.

  2. Trump signs executive order reclassifying cannabis, opening door to broader weed access

An actual, sensible executive order? Wait, I need to mark this on my calendar.

Previously, I thought Biden should have taken care of that before he left office, but having this POTUS do it instead probably makes it longer lasting as a Dem President is unlikely to revert the order. Not that I'm actually in favor of marijuana use, but having it classed as Schedule I drug made no sense. Now law enforcement can focus on more dangerous drugs. Hopefully this act makes it okay for insurance companies to cover pot shops.

    the continent america not usa

uk did decide import food from usa and canada make more sense than growing it on their miserable damp rock at one point

the eu farmer welfare are almost as ridiculous as usa corporate welfare

they lost the perspective long time ago

Actually no, it makes a ton of sense for nations to protect their agricultural capabilities. You never know when a foreign embargo is going to lead to mass starvation. E.g. blockade of Germany during World War I.

But that's a problem isnt it, the reality that the DOJ becomes politicized

It needs to be independent of political influence, its suppose to be independent. Thats how Justice departments in any Democracy are suppose to function

In South Africa we call it the NPA (national prosecution authority ) and during the years of state capture from about 2013-2017 we had no prosecutions of political wrongdoing and we went through the worst corruption in the public sector we have ever seen because there was no system  of accountability or consequence

Since investigation and inquiry is one of the functions of Congress, one wonders whether the DoJ should have been placed under the legislative branch (but allow the President to select the leader)?

  5. The invisible chemical in the air that could be raising Parkinson’s risk

For a long time they tried to link Parkinson's to genetics, but now it's looking like a commonly used chemical agent (TCE) may be the culprit. My Mum had Parkinson's, so perhaps she was exposed at some point? It's in some paint thinners, cleaning, and has been employed as an anaesthetic. Just living in areas with higher TCE in the environment increases your risk.

Yes, I think this is part of it. He tries to create a distraction from all the attention from things like Epstein and its for his MAGA base. But I also think he genuinely   believes the DOJ was politicized under Biden and they targeted him specifically which they did in certain ways to stop him running as a candidate. But the difference is there was legitimate legal cases which he was found guilty of. His objective  to prosecute James and Comey lacks the same substance  so it just becomes embarrassing for the DOJ

The DoJ has long been politicized by the Republicans. The main difference is it is the Dems who are being blamed this time; the Pubs don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot.

Trump needs to rely on actual evidence and not emotion if he wants people to be successfully prosecuted

I don't think that will happen unless he offloads his fantasy revenge agenda on a more rational actor. Trump's not a disciplined thinker, relying instead on hunches, whims, biases, cosmic rays, flattery, and brain farts.

  8. At first I wondered why there's a draw for the first round, since the remainder are all random anyway. But now it makes sense: the first round draw determines the possible opponents after leaving the group stage.

I don't see an obvious group of death this time; maybe the closest is group L, with picks in the top three of pots 2-4.

  9. The less militant alternative to these types of ship attacks would be to force the ship to halt, then board, search for drugs, and question the crew for more information. That way there's at least physical evidence, although it's unclear whether that action is legal either. But at least it isn't murderous.

Imagine the uproar if North Korea was engaged on these types of ship attacks on the open ocean. What would happen if every country with a navy started following the Trump doctrine? This has to stop.
