DJT's argument for a hostile takeover of Greenland:
'If we don't, Russia or China will': Trump doubles down on takeover of Greenland
Europe's counter-argument is that doing so will end NATO, which is entirely plausible. This must be immensely pleasing to Putin. All he needs to do is keep stirring the Greenland issue, prompting DTJ to take action and end his most formidable deterent.

Maybe but end of the day isnt it better for Bill Clinton to clarify why Epstein visited him in the WH 17 times and why he flew on Epstein's private plane 27 times?
I dont think Clinton is guilty of anything but is it really unreasonable to expect him to answer questions? Even if it is a witch-hunt they cant charge him with something he didnt do
And these same questions should be asked to everyone, including Trump
Thats what this whole thing is suppose to be about, getting clarity on what people did or didnt know
The current President is the person in power, so politically he is the subject that matters (to Congress). Choosing to go after Clinton like they are is just a distraction tactic. Unless Clinton has something pertinent to add about the current President, it's more the business of the judicial system.

As expected Republican Leaders in both the House and Senate have rejected suggestions that the US will invade Greenland and take it by military force. The likely option is the US will make an offer to buy Greenland and that will be decided by the people in Greenland through a referendum
Referendum? You must mean Anschluss...

Reminds me of the days when large telescopes were funded by private beneficiaries, like the Hooker and Hale telescopes. Hopefully they can pull it off.

Maybe at least, maybe, having some balaclavaed brownshirt with a badge and a schlong that can only be detected under an electron microscope execute a woman on video may get a proper reaction since it was an actual factual american woman; but I don't think anyone will be holding their breath. Still, kudos to that mayor for telling Trump's off brand sturmabeitlung to eff off, and the non forum friendly version of the term too.
It was very sad to watch that event this morning; the woman was clearly panicking and trying to flee, and was murdered for it. This administration is starting to rack up quite a body count, and I can only expect it will get worse. Well the anti-ICE folks now have their cause célèbres, so the protest will likely ramp up. I'm not opposed to anti-illegal immigration policing per se, but somehow it needs to be made clear to this administration that the abuse level is completely unacceptible. However, I suspect that all the protesting in the world will have little impact on this ruler. He's just not quite right in the head.

Nothing to do with the US operation, Im asking outside of Canada do you believe legitimacy for a leader should only be determined by free and fair elections
Some people dont care
In Africa we have seen 7-8 free and fair elections recently with a peaceful transfer of power and it gets celebrated
I support that because political legitimacy in any Democracy matters to me
A non-democratic government can clearly be legitimate, in the sense of being legal in the context of that nation's judicial system. The validity of their claims to be a democracy is another matter; no I don't believe Venezuela is a democracy any longer. They're what I dub a "mockracy" -- pretending to be a democracy for propaganda purposes.

Do you consider Maduro a legitimate leader for Venezuela?
And whats your definition of a legitimate leader in any country that calls itself a Democracy that has elections
For me its very simple, you just have to win a free and fair election
@rjshae and @Zoraptor Im also interested in what you think about this question and anyone else can respond
It's irrelevant whether I consider him a "legitimate" leader; the government of Venezuela considered him their legitimate President. North Korea calls itself a people's democracy and holds "democratic" elections. Is there any doubt that Kim Jung Un is the legal President of North Korea?

Yeah, because we all know how much a legal threat encourages the arts. Perhaps Mr. Redd could follow Marshawn Lynch's example, "I'm just here so I don't get fined."

Didn't know that many Union soldiers died
I think that's a combined (rough) estimate.
How Many Died in the American Civil War?
2% of the population; the deadliest war in US history.

After cancelling Pea****, I signed up for HBO/Max ad-free. Despite the price, it seems to have a pretty extensive catalogue, I'd be tempted to say larger than Paramount+ and Pea**** put together. Currently I'm re-watching season one of Deadwood, which, despite the foul language, is pretty good drama. I never saw seasons 2 & 3, so those will be fresh. Can't wait to see the kidney stone episode, since I tend to pass the Gravel once or twice a year.

Trump signs executive order reclassifying cannabis, opening door to broader weed access
An actual, sensible executive order? Wait, I need to mark this on my calendar.
Previously, I thought Biden should have taken care of that before he left office, but having this POTUS do it instead probably makes it longer lasting as a Dem President is unlikely to revert the order. Not that I'm actually in favor of marijuana use, but having it classed as Schedule I drug made no sense. Now law enforcement can focus on more dangerous drugs. Hopefully this act makes it okay for insurance companies to cover pot shops.
The All Things Political Topic - world tidings

Unless DJT backs off, I think the one way this could work itself out diplomatically without damaging NATO is for the US and Denmark to agree on some sort of shared "Protected territory" status for Greenland. Let Denmark and Greenland handle the political state and economy, and the US handles most of the defense matters, along with special influence on minerals handling.
