I don't think the term "Social Justice Warrior" should be used for these people, because they don't really care abut social justice, and if they do they are a all a bunch of hypocrites. No, the term that should be used for them is bullies, because that's what they are. If people don't agree with them they form twitter mobs to harrass the person, they attempt character assassinations, and worst of all, death threats. How can a person that do things like that say with a straight face that they fight for "social justice"? They are no better than the "gamergaters", both sides are equaly disgusting.

You're talking about Gamergaters, right? 'Cuz that's standard procedure for them.

No he is talking about the "other side" both have extremists which threaten People etc. But only one sided gets blamed for it.

  2.

I think people misunderstand something here.

Social Justice is fine. Social justice warriors are nothing else than Extremists.  In RPG Terms they are like Paladins which are also very extreme.  And yeah shaming prostitution is pretty sad.

Yeah they are like terrorists. But they truly believe they fight for justice which makes it even worse. Kind of like relgion fanatics. Personally I call them A... holes

  3. Omg how repressed can you be in your society? Dont even know where you live, and dont even want to know it!

You are impressed that the game gives you an advantage for sleeping with a prostitute, but you are not impressed that the game gives you an advantage for...

    ... murdering people.

    Murdering people is bad, mmkay.

    ... sacrificing children.

    Sacrificing children is bad, mmkay.

... stealing their belongings to the townfolk.

    Stealing is bad, mmkay.

And I am sure the more I play the game, the longer the list would go.

But oh, it has sex on it, it must be repressed and I should get punished just by thinking about it.

In which society or even century do you even live on???!!

Yeah the world is crazy. a bit offt opic but i just read an article in which a National Student union does not allow aplauding because it can trigger anxiety. Instead they are using jazzhands.....

It is a really sad world we live in....

  4.

Well, I'm not gonna waste more time on you if you can't distinguish between fiction and reality.

And you can't grasp the very simple idea that actively encouraging players to have sex with prostitutes in order to get resting boons might not be the brightest of social commentaries there is.

Why? some People think ist fun and nice to have sex with prostitutes and if you believe it or not many prostitutes also enjoy their work. Stop sex shaming People and grow up.

There are backups of the memorial xml file on the net. If they censor it'll get modded back in, and I'll do my best to make sure said mod is spread as far as possible.

    Never negotiate with terrorists.

Look look! Whoever is offended by the material of Firedorn Lightbringer. Fix it yourself.

There is already a mod out which removes this message. But this is not enough for these People. Again they are trying to push some Agenda nothing else.

There is? Well, isn't this the perfect solution for everyone? Those offended by the joke can choose to censor their own playing experience.

It was created by one of them. And yeah normally it should end here, but they want to push an Agenda and censor something they do not like.

That is why an toggle Option is also not an Option for These People. They want it to be removed.

  8. So wait. If we change this that he was so stoned he thought he get laid with a beauty and when he woke up it was some ugly fat woman it would be ok? I mean it is a ****ing joke. Get over it.

    Not for these people

    1. Fat shaming

    2. Sexist

3 Why is ugly? Are you shaming ugly people?

    4. Why was it not a minority? Have you even included minorities in your game?

  9. Just popping in to applaud Obsidian for taking out the joke. I'm having a lot of fun with the game so far, and it makes me happy to know that one of my favorite developers are willing to take a stand against transphobia, even with the huge backlash that inevitably entails from the dudebro crowd.

Having a dialogue about content and agreeing to take out problematic content isn't censorship. There's nothing being imposed on Obsidian by force. Good on them for doing the right thing anyway.

There is no discussion. People organize with mob tactics to get something removed they do not like. This is exactly censorship.

I really don't want this to turn into yet another "GamerGate vs FemenistFrequency" internet war, but damning if true.

Is not... quite true. None of those people have anything to do with FemFreq, and while I know GG has seen this, they are not the ones starting it and this is kinda outside their usual 'territory'.

As far as I know the FemFreq team consists of three people, not sure if there's more:

    Anita Sarkeesian

    Jonathan McIntosh (writer and producer)

    Katherine Cross (secretary)

    Here are my sources

LOL  Of course. This is really ridiculous...

  11. It has been claimed that the #Killallmen joke was equivalent in its badness. I pointed out why it might not be. That's all I did. I was not expressing approval of either joke.

I'm a guy, btw. I just love Kaelyn the Dove.

You are like a German politician who actually claimed that left radicalism is better than right radicalism after left extremists burned down dozens of cars in front of the EZB in Frankfurt.

    Yeah Sorry that i disagree.

  12.

Ah so joking about killing 3 billion people is alright, but joking about one man killing himself after accidentally buggering another man is bad?

    Three and a half.

How many of you actually fear for your lives daily that an SJW will murder you because you are male?

So these jokes are ok but not this harmless one because someone thinks it makes fun of a minority which it doesn't even do?

What's up with so many pages of discussion?

From all the badly-written, fanfiction.net-tier backer crap that we got in the game, this is the first thing I see that actually fits the world of Pillars of Eternity. And this thing's not even a joke about trans people, it's a joke about a dude who decided to kill himself, a radical decision, because he simply slept with a man. I hope you can see that the funny part is not the trans person in itself, but the man killing himself because he slept with a man.

Also, the person who got triggered by the joke is somebody who tweets things like "I still plan to #KillAllMen. Not changing that goal ever.". Christ, those people will never not be offended. They'll always find things to complain about.

I'm going to explain this once, which you will no doubt ignore.

How high is the possiblity of there being an actual killing spree against men by "SJWs"?

Ok, how many times has the panic defense actually been used by murder defendants?

Also, are you going to post here again or did you make an account just for that?

how high is the possibility you do a rape joke and then actually rape a person?  How many times has a rape joke lead to rape?

You are seeing how stupid these arguments are? No one gets even harmed by a joke if you don't like it don't endorse it. It is ok to not like things but its not ok to again force your own morals on others.

Outrage culture is getting reaaal old about now.

"Nice game you've got there. It would be a shame if someone came along and called you transphobic."

Please, please don't cave to this ridiculous request, as it is only the beginning. They're just feeling you out right now. These people are not noble champions of much of anything, and the backgrounds of e.g. the two Twitter-people trying to initially stir this up are... Well. Extensive and verifiable if anyone is actually wondering whether engaging with / catering to them is a good idea.

Yes, the fact that someone that actively promotes genocide and someone that was a former neo-nazi got the ear of Obsidian so easily is pretty disturbing, the minimum background check should reveal this, the fact that veteran game developers with 20-30 years of experience in the industry bow down to the wishes of these people are clearly crazy (and yes promoting genocide is crazy) is pretty telling, these demands should have been dismissed immediately after people saw where they coming from.

I'm looking forward to when this thread progresses to its natural conclusion and consists entirely of speculation over Zoe Quinn's sex life.

This makes your whole position really laughable. I hope you know this.

It really doesn't. Should the line be pulled? This is the question. Instead we think the main issue is running background checks on the people who first noticed it.

OFC we should. Because it shows if this person should even be seriously or not. As I said before. Twitter and co is full of extremists no matter for or against whatsoever.  You need context to accusations. And just like companies judge people on their twitter accounts. Yes there are tons of people who got fired because of their Twitter or Facebook page. We should do the same here.

  15. Personally, I think Obsidian should have asked the backers to make the memorials consistent with the setting in the first place. But then again, they probably had too much work on the game itself to check them all, e-mail everyone to change theirs etc.

How does this not fit into the game?  The person who died was a stupid person which was made fun of.

How does this not fit into a world full of rape, murder, homophobia etc? It fits perfectly in this cruel and harsh world the game is set in. Again. It also could have been a song of a jester or bard playing in a tavern.

Obsidian was already "censoring" other backer memorials because they didn't fit the world they created. They are now free to decide that this one doesn't even though it slipped through the cracks, and remove it after the game's release. They can ask the backer to write a new one or refund him.

And I wonder if you'll call *me* an outsider too, even though I've been here from the start?

The difference is that that was BEFORE the game was out. Now the game IS out. People bought the game. And people bought the game expecting all the content offered.

Most of the people wouldn't even read the backer memorials, so it's not as if a vital part of the game will be removed.

This should not matter at all. It is not about the Joke anymore it is about is it ok to remove something some small minority which is putting social pressure  on the artist/developer wants to be removed.

And I will always say NO. No matter what.

It seems to me like you really want to be the victim here. And i can define censorship. When you don't want something to exist just because you disagree with it, this is censorship.

Yes they already censored. Which is self censoring which is totally fine since they felt it was not fitting and they had no pressure at all back then.BUT and here is the big but, This was already approved and therefore it should stay in no matter what.

  19.

And if they agree with him? What then? Are you going to demand your money back? Start a petition? Boycott all of Obsidian's products from here on? Because they did something with their game you didn't agree with?

None of you can define censorship other than "the developer doing something I disagree with". If you agree with it, then it's ok to put pressure on them? See how rediculous this is?

Am I a dirty outsider because I think pulling it's a good idea? Even if I backed the KS the first day it came out? Obviously yes, because you don't agree with it.

Yes Then I want my money back and they can delete my game from steam or disable my key. I will never tolerate censorship I never did or will. Since I live in Germany Censorship is a very serious topic for me since I often have to suffer from it in terms of video games.

Developers doing what they want is censorship?

Like I said, censorship just means doings thing things you don't want. Doing what you do want? That's listening to your customers!

No they are already putting social pressure on the developers ad that is the best way to censor in this day and age. And these people know exactly how it works. Organize a mob on social networks and done.

    Ok another  solution.

Let the backers decide through a poll if Obsidian feels pressure through social mobs.

Or as the best solution: a Patch which gives you the option to disable these messages. Done Everyone should be happy.

Second solution is better but flawed. The first isn't smart, business wise. The product's out. It "belongs" to more than just the backers now. (Although, really it belongs to no one but Obsidian.)

How is the second solution flawed?

Turn it off by default and have an uncensored option in there. Done.  If you are still offended by it you clearly just pushing some agenda no one sane should listen to.
