  1. Well the Kingdoms of Amalur demo was so-so (very glitchy and lacking in some sound etc.) but the game itself has been something of a revelation. I'm not going to worry too much about the demo as long as the basics are intact. It's not like you can blame the demo for the skill of the person playing it. Kind of reminds me of whoever was playing Dragons Dogma at TCG, where do they find these people....
  2. I still want the demo more for the Omni Daggers than to see ME3.... Either Kingdoms of Amalur is a lot better than I was giving it credit for, or I'm just not as into ME as much as I thought I was. Idential gameplay to ME2 sounds good to me though. That was the major reason I enjoyed ME and ME2.
  3. I think it translates that quite well, especially if you listen to the Fae and their never ending cycle. The humans I've come across have a similiar outlook in that no matter what they do , things willl eventually be reclaimed by nature or the Tuatha will eventually win by attrition. It sort of reminds me of the effect Tidus had on Spira, you are a catalyst for change that goes beyond just being fateless.
  4. There was one of those in C&C:Red Alert too. I Remember using it to blow up the Whitehouse when playing as Kains side. First one I recall seeing in a game, altough there are a couple in some of the older animes too. I think they just wrote themselves into a corner at some point and any semeblence of sense was forgotten. But as long as you can have big explosions that will work on a lot of people.
  5. TIM would have made a decent end boss at the end of ME2 if it had turned out he was playing you from the start. But with the scale of ME3 after presumably getting rid of 100's of Reapers it just screams anti climax. Who knows after ME2 and DA2 they may well manage to come up with an end boss that is more stupid than anyone can imagine... Or it might be third time lucky. The transformation/indoctrination thing is from one of the books. It's why his eyes look weird.
  6. It's not really a spoiler since it says it was a scrapped idea. Glad really, it would have beaten the T-800 Reaper baby for stupidity hands down.
  7. I wish they would hurry up and release the demo I want my Onmi Daggers for Amalur.
  8. I'm sticking with a pure mage , well as pure as a mage who leaps around with chakrams can be. I'm actually suprised It's a lot better than I thought.A massive improvement over the state of the demo. The combat is very good but so is the lore and optional conversations. It's also not brown, it's really colourful and interesting to walk around. Listening to the lore stones is really funny and there are a ton of hidden things that I've only found because of a skill that shows up monsters. After I've had a break I plan to delve into alchemy. It's still a bit on the easy side but maybe thats having come off playing War in the North not too long ago, combat is very similiar and feels familiar. All this Shepard stuff scattered across the multiverse reminds me of Moor****s "Eternal Champions". All sandbox games feel like offline MMO's to me. Maybe the exception would be Fallout because I've never played a PA MMO. Also has this happened to anyone else ? I was wandering around on half health, got shot by an arrow and the game paused and would not let me continue until I'd used the health potion hotkey. This was way after the introduction so I don't think it was a tutorial thing.
  9. I'm really enjoying FFXIII-2 making my own monster support party at the moment collecting monsters across time zones.I never liked the lack of save points at first, but discovered you can lock gates and do over levels with different results. Unfortunately (or maybe not it depends) I have to put it on hold and play Kingdoms of Amular over the weekend to see if it's worth keeping or not.
  10. Sounds like the plot of Vandread all that harvesting of skin, bone and flesh. It is a bit odd that a race that hates organics runs on organic soup.
  11. Do you know if the game scales ? I went as far away from the start as I could in the demo and still never came across anything I would call a challenge. Now if the game scales ,that's not really a suprise Oblivion was much the same. However if it does not, it's a bit worrying.
  12. I blame the books personally. In order to "legitimise" the books there was a lot of revision between ME and ME2. If ME was ever meant to be a trilogy I don't think it was ever meant to be a Shepard trilogy. ME's design strongly suggests that, or the designers were idiots. As for the game itself. After the steaming pile that was DA2 anything from EA/Bioware gets approached with extreme caution. Not only because of the quality of DA2 but also because of how they covered up the missing auto attack feature until the game was released. I no longer trust them so I won't pre-order.
  13. There is a lot more dialogue and interaction but it's essentially travel down corridors and collect loot. There are some population hubs but nothing major. The story is quite decent and it branches dependent on your actions, but the game is essentially about how you kill things and collect loot. This changes quite dramatically depending on your build and companion selection. There are a lot of different builds and sub builds to try out (on normal most things work) but if that is not your idea of fun , then you probably won't like the game that much.
  14. Final Fantasy XIII-2 . It's more open that the original, has less of an on rails feel as you can jump backwards and forwards in time. Unlike the original there are also "population" hubs rather than just doing all the buying and selling from the save points. It's got a games center much like FFVII where you can gamble and race Chocobo. Also you can fiddle with time to cause different events, or events more to your liking. The combat system is much the same. The X button still rules all most of the time, because of the star rating. Seems harder to get stars than in the original I could ***** 99% of that game but you can only seem to get ***** on a suprise strike here most of the time. The interactive scenes are very much like FFVIII where you could overpower your summons if you mashed buttons (here though its more about timing and less about mashing). Serah is sweet and Noel is not a tool , she's also got one of the more interesting weapons that can be either a bow a sword or a moogle.. Can't say I quitte "get" the story yet, but time travel is hard to follow most of the time anyway. I'm not really far enough into the game. Thus far I'd say it's a big improvement over FFXIII while still being very familiar.
  15. I hardly ever bother with DLC. I got the PS3 version of ME2 with all the extras and they made the game a joke if you used them. I also tend to play a lot of games rather than the same thing over and over, as such by the time any DLC comes along I've already moved on. There was some bridging DLC at some point because it's runined my ME2 platinum trophy (its still there but only reads 97% now). As for paying an extra
  16. In ME the relay is key to the Reaper plan. Here is the problem with the logic between ME and ME2. If the Reapers are immortal and not in any particular rush the citadel becomes completely pointless. In ME the Citadel allows the Reapers to jump in take out the C&C and cut gate travel. Then mop up system by system at leasure. This strongly implies they can't win in a head to head battle. It's clear the Proteans are more advanced that the current occupiers , but the Reapers have just flown en masse through normal space not taking them much longer than it would have to come through the relay and taken out Earth without much effort. That makes the whole central premise of ME a bit silly in retrospect and the events of ME rather pointless. As I said in the other post it's better if you just sit back enjoy the show and don't think too deeply about it.
  17. ME2 lacked the wow factor of ME. It's kind of like when you compare FO3 and FO:NV ,only in the case of NV you have a much deeper and involving story and characters to make up for it. In ME2 you have a series of sub quests and very few plot locations. All the best characters were throwbacks to ME. Of course ME had it's flaws too, number 1 being it was ridiculously short. It's just that they were easier to overlook because it was shiny and different. Luckily for me I like the ME game system so that means the characters, story, plot is less important to my enjoyment of the game. As long as the game system remains playable I'm happy. I think like a hollywood blockbuster you get more enjoyment if you just let the plot wash over you and don't examine it too closely.
  18. Umm well the EDI husk thing was something on the boards after ME2. Like how cool would it be if EDI got a body. Although I never went as far as to suggest that EDIxLegion was a good idea I was in the pro body camp so I guess maybe I've got some responsibility there. The prothean thing was genetic manipulation by the Reapers. At least that was how ME2 explained it. Not sure about the third one.Sometimes listening to the fans is not such a good idea..
  19. I enjoyed the combat, never thought much of the story or "plot" .Characters are typical Bioware, not as good as Obsidians but more straightforward and less complex. I'd quite like the collectors edition but no way will I ever do that with an EA product after Dragon Age2. I heard somewhere you had to be online or something for the "best ending" if anyone can clue me in on what that means , or I'm misunderstanding something I'd appreciate it. If it's stand alone I'll probably picky on up from somewhere I can return it, otherwise I'll rent it or wait for the full version.
  20. Well I put my own spin on laws. It's like speeding , if it's a nice day and an open road I'll gleefully ignore the law. In traffic or poor weather I'll either be on the speed limit or even under it.
  21. If you own something then I don't see a problem with watching/playing it somewhere else. If I'm away and I feel like watching Star Wars it's easier to just download it rather than have to get the original disc. I'm not costing Lucas Arts anything, I've already made my purchase. Anime is a bit a of grey area for me as well. If I can't buy the product in my country I'm not really in a position to own it. Add to that If I was in Japan it would be free on TV anyway. Pirating just because you don't want to spend money though. That's just wrong. Those sorts of pirates can hang just like in the old days.
  22. Dungeon Siege 3 at the moment. Got FFXIII-2 and DX:HR on standby (I've been away so I'm sorta catching up). Prior to that it was War in the North, if you think Obsidian games are buggy check that one out. It's actually a very decent game, but I've never come across so many game breakers and broken quests before (ironically removing the patch pretty much fixed them, for me at least). It's a piece of cake compared to DS3 but it has a really nice sense of scale which DS3 lacks.
  23. The mage shield is more the sort of thing you would expect in a sci fi game I guess. But it's a pretty minor niggle more stylistic than anytihng. Maybe that's just how things are in that world. I personally like the Fae Blades , never saw Chakerams in the demo, but the skills were shown in the demonstration area. One of the best things which I forgot to mention was I played the demo 4 times and each time found someting new and each character played very differently too, like how you would confront group encounters etc. The card system is pretty interesting a more defined feel than just having a few magic skills on a fighter for example. Whether the game itself will be interesting enough to make it worth going through all those archtypes, time will tell.
  24. I downloaded the demo and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Did they use the Dragon Age II interface because it gives me that sort of vibe.. It's part over the top anime style combat and weapon/armour design and part Two Worlds. The skill trees are nice an varied and at least in the demo once you complete the intro you can skip it (its good the first couple of times but you really don't want to see it every time you play). Downside. It was very glitchy, had sound issues and locked twice (yes it's a demo but thats worrying). I'll buy it, but from a place I can return it if I have too many serious issues. It might be the sort of game that gets priced down very quickly if the game is as glitchy as the demo. Those worries aside I was left with a very favourable impression of the story and game structure. The only bit I would class as "hard" was when they brought up a troll. But I think that was maybe because upto that point I don't recall being hit... That part at least was very hands on with a lot of dodging. I skipped Skyrim too... I just wait for those inevitable GotY things now once the serious issues are sorted.
  25. Only two things wrong with Alpha Protocol as far as I was concerned. 1. Bugs - lots of those. 2. Lack of freedom in levels. Sort those two things out and Alpha Protocol 2 would be most most welcome. The only thing is that the name might be just too toxic to touch again.
