That f***ing game! As much as I love AP. It doesn't really have a complex story. Like at all. Its cool to find out details you didn't knew before on subsequent runs but its all pretty standard (though well done and executed) spy fiction with no interesting kinks. Its definitly Obsidians most standard plot so far (Though that isn't really the point here) The highlight by far are the charachters and the dialog related to them. That was a way bigger reward. The story/plot itself is way secondary. It's complex in the sense that it'll take you at least 3-4 playthroughs to get what's really going on, if you don't read guides and such beforehand. The plot itself is pretty is pretty basic, but your "choices-path" is the most non-linear that I've seen in any game. And yes, the characters and dialogue are awesome!

It was pretty obvious in quite a few of the AP reviews that the reviewer had never spent more than 15 minutes playing through it. The pistol is weak and the story is linear and railroaded? On the other hand, it's pretty amusing to read through the somethingawful topic on AP and seeing people getting ephiphanies over the complex story.

When you get the first sniper rifle you've finished the game. Nope, didn't worked for me. First, because I have only one sniper in my team, never more and second, because the enemy every once in a while was able to overrun me with mass. This combined with the new aiming system makes it quite harder than before. You can't really do headshot, headshot, headshot,.. anymore. Additionally, they now - for the very first time - effectively used sniper rifles and grenade launchers as well, which in return - finally - made me use my own grenade launchers and mortars much more often than ever before (this is a good thing). So even though the difficult isn't astronomical higher, it at least brings me to the point where it is more efficient to use a broader variety of weapons. I mean, did anyone ever used grenades or grenade launchers before? It was just inefficient, you had been better off with headshot, headshot, headshot. Ah, while I am at it.. with the new aiming system, even Ira wasn't useless to me anymore in the beginning. She wasn't what I'd call "good," but she also wasn't the most bad thing in the game, simply because the other mercs in my team couldn't deal headshots anymore all the time. The new aiming system have a few quirks - such as Ira hits more often with her .38 peashooter than, say, Buzz with her XM177, even at extreme ranges. As I understand it, the system was included before they had finished adding the relevant new data needed for most of the weapons.

Yeah, 1.13 used to have an inverse difficulty tied to the availability of scopes. I'm not sure that the new fullauto-while-aiming feature is a good idea though.

Did they? Ok, the dwarf king choice gave you a reactive miniquest in DA2, but what did the redcliffe kid do? Give you one of three different end game slides? I think, say, whatever happens with the sibling that survives the prologue has a lot more variation than any of your examples... Though, I agree, that it's more about guessing/luck and less about choice. You had a choice who to crown, or to let the kid live or not. If the quests were made to DA2 standards, one of the Orzimmar dwarves would've been a lyrium-infused maddorf that you had to kill, while the kid would've turned into an abomination straight away. The mother too, just because. And the father, obviously. Plus every guard in the castle. In DA2, the majority of the quests and plotlines have exactly the same outcome, no matter what you try (and fail) to do. Of course, the choices in DA:O are mostly cosmetic or decides which troops you get at the endbattle (which is rather cosmetic too), but you actually do stuff which matters to the story.

Well, most plots in DA2 ends up with you failing, no matter what you do. On the top of my head, I can think of- The choices in DA:O mattered a lot more, from who to crown in Dwarf City, who to side with at the Circle Tower and in the Brechilian (I think it was) forest, how to deal with the kid in Redcliffe and so on and so forth.

Very little changes if you side with "the other side". The story of DA2 is so rigid that DA3 won't have a save game importer - because none of your choices will matter.

Clicky That's obviously the expected answer at this point, but I would wait for DA3. DA2 left me very dissappointed and I'm rather glad that I didn't pay for my copy.

Finished DA2 for the first and last time a few days ago. Ugh. Bought Vampire Bloodlines on sale after that - playing a rpg without mapmarkers (or even a map!) and no breadcrumbs is hard! Hulp!

Having armed police guard a youth camp would be unheard of in Norway. Most of NW Europe too. I'm surprised that there even was one (unarmed) guy in charge of security.

Once you finish the main quest, you'll have a 'post campaign' save where you can run around in your villa endlessly - and access any DLCs that you've bought

Looks like most people have spent about two hours completing it.
