  1. Yeah, Nihilus is a joke... Kreia has insane saving throws against force powers, but is not that difficult either. Sion is very easy if you keep using a certain special dark power on him. Overall the bosses are paradoxically far from being the most difficult opponents. And oh yeah, install this BEFORE commencing your next playthrough: http://deadlystream.com/invision/files/file/13-tslrcm/ you'll be happy you did (This is supposed to be the newest version, but I just learned about it and am personally using this one: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.c...ent_Mod;115177)
  2. Wow, wierdest bug ever! The main menu is NOT supposed to look like that... Never seen or heard of something approaching that before. Have you already successfully played the game on the very same PC you're using now? After a quick search, I found someone who encountered the same problem (the models not appearing during character creation), he fixed it by disabling "Vertex Buffer Objects" in swkotor.ini http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=203183 I don't know if this'll help you with the rest, though. As usual when you face this sort of problem, update/reinstall your graphics drivers. As for the main menu, it's just bizarre. You're not using a mod, are you?
  3. Lightsabers are notoriously difficult to find in Kotor 2, outside of the rare few fixed spawn points. It's unlike the first game, where they were practically growing on trees... You can only build one (your own). Again, KSE is your friend That way, you can have one lightsaber for each of your force-sensitive teammates AND choose the color and blade... Don't wait for that random loot generator to give you what you want, because there is a 80% chance that it never will... (P.S.: I didn't give you a KSE link... Here's one: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.c...uage_Only;68852 )
  4. If you do things right, you should be able to convert most of them on Nar Shaddaa (that is Atton, Bao-Dur and Mira). As for the Handmaiden you'll have to wait until you have reached level 18 to unlock the 3rd sparring match. Your influence with a teammate needs to be high enough for you to be able to train him/her, which can be tricky since you can't just guess every single influence opportunity there is for each character, especially on your first playthrough. This will help you: http://www.starwarsknights.com/influence.php (you can check your influence level with an NPC using the KSE. It needs to be at 98, I think)
  5. I *think* the problem comes from your graphic card. Kotor 2 doesn't seem to like Intel graphic cards, not many games do to be honest... I searched Google, this issue is not uncommon and seems to invariably affect those using Intel GPUs. I found this: "EDIT #6 If you have an Intel GPU: 1) Open your Intel graphics driver's control panel and Click on "3D Options". Look for "Flipping Policy" and change it to "Blit". here: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=194324 (read the first two posts entirely) You can always try things like: - installing the patches: 1.0a AND 1.0b in that order (http://lucasarts.com/support/update/kotor2int.html) - add the line "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" under "Graphics Options" in swkotor.ini (known as the "Dantooine lag fix") - reinstall graphic card drivers Check this thread also: http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showtopic=50140 Good luck!
  6. Have you tried replacing the mss.dll file with the one from Kotor 1? (>Program Files>Lucas Arts>KOTOR 2)
  7. I feel your pain. The LS path can get pretty dull and unfunny at times, as I said earlier, contrary to the DS path, where you find yourself constantly laughing at the grotesque sociopathy of your character. But still, I'd advise you to finish the game as a goody-goody lightsider and then start another playthrough where you can be a badass Sith all you want... The story will be completely different as you'll side with different factions on each planet. It's not like in Kotor 1 where the game is pretty much the same (with a few exceptions) up until the confrontation with Bastila and every choice you make before that is rendered meaningless. Currently I'm playing as a LS female, just after finishing a playthrough as a male Sith Lord. Kotor 2 has great replay value. As for your questions about Atris, well we'll let you find out by yourself... Atton will explain what "Schutta" means on Nar Shaddaa (have him in your party when you speak to the Duros merchant).
  8. There are dozens of forums debating this also, and still the overwhelming majority are frustrated to see TOR replace Kotor 3 (because it did). Saying that my sample size is not representative is a bit dishonest. So, will I be able to live with Kotor 3 not being made? Of course, but it definitely leaves an unfinished feeling. As a matter of fact it was: "According to designer John Stafford, "we got quite a bit of traction... we wrote a story, designed most of the environments/worlds, and many of the quests, characters, and items." However, when the game was close to starting development, LucasArts hit a difficult period in the company's history which led to the project being canceled." Let's say the price is but an addition to the list of cons... Like I said, I'll play TOR, because a game that's even remotely related to Kotor is better than nothing.
  9. The over-the-top DS dialogue options are still hilarious even after 2 or 3 playthroughs, as is seeing the result of darkside corruption on the faces of your companions. While I always felt that the LS storyline makes perfect sense in Kotor 1's more light-hearted and optimistic atmosphere, a DS character fits great in the general dark, gloomy mood of the second game. But the downside is that you do miss a lot of content, like when you simply murder someone who was going to open another quest. This is why even when I play DS, I still perform some LS actions when I "sympathise" with a character (some others are just asking to be whacked...^^) I'm currently paying as a LS female, to see what the canonical storyline looks like. It's OK, but I still regret from time to time not being able to act as a comical sociopath and feel like I'm playing "GTA:Nar Shaddaa". I'm only at the beggining, though. I may still change my mind. But I agree that storywise, it makes more sense for the canonical Exile to be a Jedi, as an evil Exile would just be inconsistent... (PS: I do like Force Wave and use it a lot with a DSer.)
  10. You keep saying "we". Are you one of the people who developed this game? None of us are saying that TOR will suck in itself... It's probably gonna be a good game. We're only saying that it's not what we wanted. We expected a RPG that is a actual sequel to Kotor 1&2, not a MMO taking place 300 years that has a vague relation to it. Personally, I envisioned a game where Revan would again be the main character, with possibly the Exile as an NPC and second-in-command and where they would battle and defeat the True Sith. Imagine if instead of making Return of the Jedi, they'd made a movie 300 years in the future where the defeat of the Emperor, Luke's ascension to the rank of Jedi Knight and the redemption of Anakin would only have been revealed through an holocron or something. There are many polls over the Internet that demonstrate that a clear majority of fans would choose Kotor 3 over TOR anyday. Don't the wishes of your fans mean anything to you? A lot of us feel betrayed, robbed and despised as a result. Oh yeah and there's this little thing about paying 15
  11. Funny, I always figured DEX was important for ranged instead of melee weapons... It does make you harder to hit and possibly increases your accuracy but STR is what determines the amount of damage you inflict on your enemy. But it really doesn't matter when you take into account all those items you can to use to boost whichever one you find yourself lacking in... @jedi mantis In the end you'll find that those choices you make regarding character building will be purely for gameplay reasons, explore more content. The game really isn't that hard to beat and I can only think of 2 or 3 fights that present any real challenge... While I never make my character skilled in repair, I intend to do it this time because I never got around to upgrading T3-M4 (not so much for the WIS bonus but for a certain hologram...). But it's one of the things I will use the KSE for since I see no point in wasting the precious skill points of a Consular just for this one thing. And since I don't use the workbench that much... (the upgrades I find by looting/shopping are more than enough for me). And for the extra dialogue options (like that protocol droid on Dantooine), having Bao-Dur with you does the trick. Implants and armors help, but it's not like you desperately need them either... How is Force Storm more boring than Valor? DS powers are much more useful and above all cooler, especially against multiple opponents. Valor will enhance your physical attributes and make your melee attacks more efficient, but how good is this when you have 8 Sith Assassins attacking you all at once? That's why it's really painful to play as a light-sider for me, besides the fact that it makes the story and dialogues so much duller... ("Oh no! Don't do that! It's wrong... A Jedi's life is sacrifice.")
  12. 43s is not enough to win top spot, and that's the only one that pays. I got 39.97 something on my 3rd try, so it's definitely doable. Just hit as many acceleration pads as you can. Only jump when it's absolutely necessary to avoid a crash. Re-read what I wrote... I never said I won top spot with a time of 43s, I said I beat *some* of the lower records, which was enough to earn me some cash. That was really the whole point of the thread... Then read my most recent post where I said that I finally won top spot (with a time of 40s). Like you said, the trick is indeed to jump as few obstacles as possible and instead go around in order to hit the pads (I figured it out after 2 or 3 tries) But still, the track is broken and you win 1 prize instead of 3, and the other racers are nowhere to be found for you to rub your time in their faces...
  13. Sorry, horrible typo... *I don't waste too many points in Demolition, Stealth
  14. Well, Kotor 2 is already considered an "old" game, it's to be expected that this forum isn't as active as it was a few years ago... I'll try to answer so of your questions... I encounter this problem too every now and then. It happens when you have a cut scene where the screen resolution is changed (mainly but not only when you travel between planets). It happens when you have been playing the game for a long time. Usually quitting and re-launching the game will solve the problem and the sound will be back (that is, completely quitting the game, i.e. quitting to windows). With a combat-oriented character, you should beef up your strength, constitution and to a lesser extent your dexterity (you spent too much on DEX, imho). Personally I'm more of the force user type, so I always play as a Consular/Sith Lord/Jedi Master (you're still very good with a lightsaber as a Consular), but if I were you, even as a weapon master, I'd still spend a little more points in Wisdom and Charisma (you might still change your mind and go for Jedi Master later in the game). Those are the attributes that make your force powers more potent, give you more force points, and in the case of Charisma, enhance your persuasion skill, and allows you to use force powers of the opposite alignment more readily. Also, don't forget there are plenty of items in the game to raise your attributes (gloves, armbands, implants). Personally, I don't have waste too much points in Demolition, Stealth, Security or even Repair and Computer use skills: that's where your companions will come in handy. Bao-Dur, Atton, Mira or the droids will take care of any mines, security locks, computer terminals you encounter... I only add points in Persuade (very important), Treat Injury and Awareness. But again, that's because I play as a Consular... I know that Repair and Computer are important for your PC if you wish to upgrade T3-M4 and unlock his "bonuses", though... or if you use the workbench a lot. In the end, it's for you to decide what skills you are prepared to sacrifice... As for feats, you should focus on those related to melee combat: flurry, critical strike, power attack. Also: "weapon proficiency/specialisation: lightsaber"; if you entend to use 2 lightsabers, "Two-Weapon Fighting" obviously, Jedi Defense, Finesse: lightsaber (optional), regenerate force and vitality points, Dueling... That's how I do it, others may disagree, but I hope that helps... And oh yeah: there's always the KSE, if you don't mind cheating a little (I know I don't...^^)
  15. You were right. I finally beat the track (on another playthrough) and got 500 credits... In the end, only the Onderon track works the way the tracks worked in Kotor 1: 3 tiers, big money prizes, ability to interact with other racers in the cantina... That's too bad because other than that, I liked the way they improved swoop racing in K2...
  16. To be frank, I have to admit that I'm intrigued by the story (the True Sith, the Sith Emperor, the Cold War...) but a MMO is just a fundamentally different experience from a single-player RPG and one I'm not at all interested in... The main problem being that in a MMO, you're a player among hundred of thousands of others, you're not central to the story, you play a tiny role insignificant in the big picture, and have no control over what is happening overall... It's like playing as Kitster (Anakin's childhood friend) in a game adaptation of Star Wars Episode I... Who would want that? And another thing: I don't want to be killed every 15 mins by some geek who spends his whole life playing online games. One great thing about an RPG is that you can feel a sense of accomplishment even if you're not the most experienced/obsessive gamer out there... One thing I just don't get is that it's crystal clear that the OVERWHELMING majority of KOTOR fans don't want this MMO! But BioWare/LucasArts seem determined to slam this truck into the wall... It's unlikely since TOR is supposed to explain what happened to Revan/the Exile, definitely closing this storyline... I expect the revelation to unfold like this: <insert name>: So my Lord, what happened to Revan and The Exile? SITH EMPEROR: Oh yeah, those guys... Well they came to me, tried to stop me, so I killed them both right where they stood. YES, YOU HEAR ME: I killed those two characters you came to know and love and identify with in about two seconds, rendering your whole gaming experience meaningless! muhahahahah!!!
  17. It works fine on Vista for me. As a matter of fact, it works even better than Kotor 1, which would randomly crash to desktop during combat... The only major problem Vista user may run into is the game refusing to start after installation. (you would get a error message). Luckily, there is an easy fix: replace the file mss32.dll in the Kotor 2 folder with the one from Kotor 1... (that is, if you have Kotor 1 installed on your pc. If you don't, you can download it from many sites). Other than that, the game runs rather smoothely. You may still experience some random crashes here and there (much less than with Kotor 1), so you'd be wise to save your progress regularly).
  18. Unless, we as fans organize a massive boycott of this goddamned MMO... They'll be forced to make Kotor 3 to get their money back. What in the hell makes those people think anyone cares what happened 300 YEARS after the events of the first two Kotor, anyway? When you have played as Revan or the Exile, what would you want to play as a random, low-ranking Jedi, Sith or bounty hunter? 90% of Kotor fans absolutely loath the idea of a MMO... Do they even have market strategists over at LucasArts?
  19. If you're still interested in this, I found a thread where someone else claims to have been able to loot Nihilus" corpse (and also obtained a Dark Jedi Master robe). It's probably another random glitch... but a useful one since the only other way to get a Dark Master robe is on Sion's corpse at the very end of the game, unless you use the save game editor (like I do) anyway, it's there: http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showt...27542&st=15
  20. No, never happened to me. His body always disappeared... (I've only played the game 3 times, though) But that's a good thing, right? Since you played the game many times, would you be kind enough to help me with the issue that I raised in the other topic that I created just after yours (about the swoop races bug)
  21. This is NOT the "forfeit race" bug... I searched the forum and didn't find a solution to this bug (other members did ask the question, but it wasn't answered) Ok I'm on Telos currently and I managed to beat some of the times (43s) but that Twi'lek refuses to acknowledge my victory and tells me that my time was "reasonable" but that I didn't beat any of the other records... Is there even a fix for this? or should I just give up on swoop races... (I really want to do them, though)
