  1. The only way of emptying a slot is by adding an active ability that is tied to a piece of equipment instead. And then unequipping the equipment (and thereby the skill). For instance the "summoning spiders"-ring you find early in Scatterscarp. or the "summoning spirit"-ring you can find in Emerald Stair. Or just bind Marius' "detect treasure"-ability. That one gets removed from the bar every time you visit camp.
  2. My bad. I meant that if flurry of blows also work with weapons, it doesn't change the difference between daggers and fists. Like Boeroer I have a hard time seeing the advantage of using fists over daggers. In short; why punch, when you can stab?
  3. They might be biased. Without combat logs, a lot of opinions regarding combat are also based on 'feels'. Unarmed is viable and it has a certain flavour that weapons don't have.
  4. I think there is a discrepancy here, because if you spec into "iron fists", you're going for a kind of monk build. And that should have some benefits beside just upgrading gear. Unless the devs meant it as a kind of challenge run.
  5. I agree, after having read the description on the armour again. DR first, then absolute numbers. Received damage = (Incoming damage * (1 - percentage/100%)) - absolute number
  6. So numbercrunchers and theorycrafters. Let's get this forum rolling. The amour reduction. Is it absolute numbers first, then percentage reduction? Or vice versa? I'm to lazy to test myself
  7. I haven't gotten far enough yet to get a iconic single-hand weapon, but I've googled that many of them have a proc with a parry. I assume that if you use a single-hand weapon (empty offhand) you get that weapon proc, but won't get it if you use a shield to parry. Stated earlier that POE1 and Deadfire gave single-hand wield a bonus. That was not extra crit chance, but accuracy. Still think that Avowed should have some benefit to using a single-hand wield with empty offhand.
  8. Kai doesn't know himself. Why else does he decide to down before using his "Unbending Defiance"? Coxfither of a maternal isn't the player character and that ability is not a "potion I will save for a very challenging fight, which this is not"
  9. I have a soft spot for Piranha Bytes. They made unique games with progression that I liked, though the stories tended to be ... to weird for me. Elex was a good janky game, and I agree Elex 2 was a mess. Liked Risen, never did Gothic. So I have hopes for this remake and hope it will get the same remake-acclaim that Resident Evil 4 did.
  10. in-game you cannot make your character left-handed. Left hand is the designated "off-hand" and there is no way to change that. As a RL leftie, I have tested You can wield a weapon in your left hand, but then you lose the parry ability. You cannot wield a shield in the right hand. Neither wield a grimoire in the right hand. As I'm on a PC I cannot speak of controller rebinds.
  11. I do Path of the Damned (melee ranger/rogue) as original poster, and I can verify that enemies hit HARD. Dodging or blocking is needed to master. In the beginning, unless you are using a shield to block or is excellent at dodging, you need to use stealth, running away to reset or the environment (Magrans Fire, gunpowder barrels). Once you can upgrade your armour and weapons, do so. Bust basically, using Kai to taunt and get aggro is also NEEDED. Spatial awareness of enemies is key. Also, once you reach level 5, get the signature ability on the 2nd tier (Shadowing Beyond, Barbaric Roar or Grimoire Mastery) of your favourite class-tree.
  12. Shadowing Beyond is great for a breather, but using the radial wheel with "prepare" option is also a good thing. I would recommend to hotbind the radial wheel for more strategic play. Also You want to use Kais taunts A LOT
  13. This is what annoys me the most. I tested a bit of dual wield / empty single wield as a melee ranger. - Benefit of dual wield: you can spam faster attacks by alternating between both buttons. Works with crit builds. - Disadvantage of dual wield. No parry, and attack combo easier loses benefits. So you rely on dodge and Shadowing Beyond. For single wield there is no benefit if using an empty offhand. They dropped the ball on this part. You might as well use a shield. IIRC Deadfire and POE1 gave you higher crit change if off-hand was empty.
  14. I guess it's Pukestabber https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Pukestabber You get drunk by resting and using alcohol as food. You get a hangover on the following rest if you do nothing after being drunk.
