  1. Yeah, but I love the human male flirt lines. Total comedy: "You're tag's showing. It says, uh, 'made in heaven.'" "Are you tired... because you've been running through my mind all day." I love the female dwarf joke: "Yes, they're real. No, you can't touch them." The male blood elf joke lines are hilarious: "We're allied with the Taurens now? Great! Steak three times a week!" "Don't you wish your girlfriend were hot. like. me?" Night elf male: "I don't know about you, but I can't understand a damned thing these wisps say." There's a lot of comedy in WoW. I'm a bit leery of posting my armory link. I'm afraid you guys will laugh at me and kick sand in my face.
  2. I almost bought this yesterday when I ordered Warhammer Online. I dunno. I didn't because FO3 is due out before the end of the month and I don't know how much time I'll have for this many games. What I see about it is intriguing on the story level, but I'm a little worried about the fact that it uses the NWN engine. I was not a big fan of the engine, although I did like the KotOR games, which use essentially the same engine I think. I've tried to skim the posts without reading too much because I don't want to ruin the story just in case I buy it.
  3. You know, in all the times I've done the mechanar, I've never known that. You learn something new every day. Good job and leet character, man.
  4. Zowie, Gfted, 14k on one crit? I've been running various damage meters for a long time and I'm topping off at about 850dps. What the hell are you doing? ...And it's not like I join raids and people kick sand in my face. I usually acquit myself pretty well as far as damage goes. Mages and folks who aren't in combat when they start casting usually have slightly skewed dps readings, but overall damage over the course of the raid usually puts me either a little ahead or a little behind. I'm just in bad pugs! haha I'm wearing a combo of pvp/kara/gruul's/badge gear also. I even went and spanked Direbrew a few times with the old guild just to get a couple different trinkets just for variety (although it's the same stuff you can get at the badge vendor in the middle of Shatt, just with different names). Where the hell am I going wrong? What class are you? I have a poorly geared hunter, a mediocre geared mage, a not so shabby geared warrior, and a reasonably well geared rogue and none of them get 14k crits. Bottle your mojo and send it to me! lol I saw someone in Stormwind last night geared entirely with top end raid gear. Good lord, that was some good stuff!
  5. Arathi Basin is my least favorite. Maybe because, at higher levels, I lose more often than anything. Like I said in the original post, the successful arena players are probably the best. ...And I don't have anything against PvP or the people who enjoy it. ...But learning the ins and outs of instances and dealing with a team of players in order to beat them is difficult also. Cletus the slacked jawed yokel doesn't run a lot of successful raid. Sure, he might be in one, playing a hunter probably, but he doesn't win them. Before someone takes me to task, hunters are my favorite solo class and I think good hunters are damned good. It's just that there are a lot of bad hunters out there. In response to the news about the 10 man raids, YAY! Hot diggity, man. That's awesome. 10 man raids are probably the outside edge of what my guild can field at this time. If that's the case, then I'll probably convince everyone that we should not look to add people for the time being but just get everyone ready for the ten man raids. We'll slowly add over time which has worked well. I'm already spending a lot of time running lower level guildies through instances. I tell you what a guild does, it makes it easier for your new characters to go through every instance and level quickly. When I started, I couldn't ask for help and have two level 70 characters charge in to do my quests for me. I also didn't have someone dole out a few hundred gold and several 16 slot bags to my first character. Of course, none of my guildies can tell me about 'back in the day,' when they had to walk three miles to Stormwind and back uphill in the snow both ways, either.
  6. Well, swinely, I already purchased it! lol Seriously, though, I love warhammer universe. I was planning on buying no matter what. I've just been distracted by other things for the past several months.
  7. By 11, I think she'd be able to learn some of the complexities of the class. From the damage output I've seen, she should do well as either an elemental or enhancement shaman, but I think I'd rather have another range person. So, on what server is your character, Hurlshot? I'll make a toon there and maybe see you around. EDIT: Oops, I mean on WH, not WoW.
  8. Ah well, I knew I'd see a defender of the status quo. It's almsot like casting "summon WoW defender." Don't think I'm trolling, though. I appreciate the conversation, but I disagree with you on several points. I'm lazy too, but I'll try to quote as I respond. "Loosing a battleground (badly) gives you about 5 to 10 times less honor than winning it. Only people who don
  9. Ordered and on its way. This great news. I'm still looking forward to WotLK, but I must explore the new Warhammer game. I just wish it were 40k. Hopefully, they don't make pvp their main focus as WoW has done increasingly over the past couple of years.
  10. Aw, hell, it's probably too long of a rant. I guess I wouldn't have read the whole thing myself. Is warhammer online on the shelves already? 'Cause I'm buying it immediately if so.
  11. So, it turns out we have a lot of WoWers on this board. Some of them might have heard that Wrath of the Litch King is due to release in a month. What I'd like to see in Wrath of the Litch King is.... First of all, a change to the epic loot tables. Folks say, "oh, PvP is harder than PvE, so you should get the best loot that way!" Folks, however, are idiots. It takes a hell of a lot more thought to go through even a normal instance at level than to go to a BG, lose every time, and still have enough honor and marks to buy epic gear. ...And, while it's not as good for PvE fighting as the badge and raid gear, it's much easier to get. You can get crafting recipies that are as good as PvP gear, but they're all just as tough to find. Meanwhile, the raids and heroic instances are difficult enough that a lot of players are compelled to gear up in BGs before they feel fit to go into the more difficult PvE areas. Just complete crap. Now, I don't think PvP should get the shaft. I just don't think that it should be so much easier to get decent epics (not great, but certainly decent) by failing in BGs than by succeeding in same level instances. Grinding out Badges is a pain in the ass. It takes real team work and perseverance and you get maybe 10-15 badges in a day. Doing even a ten man raid? Those are fun, don't get me wrong, but Kara takes a good four or five hours to clear. Gruul is faster, maybe, but good luck herding 25 characters into the pen. Doing a ten man raid should yield more badges than it currently does. So should heroics. The highest level crafted items are a joke. As previous Seasons of arena gear come available for honor purchase, the last level trainable crafting gear is simply left behind. Sure, we can argue efficacy for the S gear in PvE, but the bottom line is that the small loss in the PvE area is minor compared to the overall gains otherwise. ...And some end game trainable crafted items are better than others. For instance, Bulwark of the Ancient Kings and Lionheart Executioner are much better than the Primalstrike set. I haven't done a lot of PvPing. I guess I probably have a little over 10,000 honorable kills between all of my characters. That's not a lot. ...But my point isn't to attack PvP so much as to say that, as easy as it is to get gear by going to BGs, it should be just as easy to get similar level gear in PvE. Just compare Dirge to a Gladiator dagger, even S1. Hell, it takes time to amass the fortune in mats necessary to get to the last level of Blacksmithing and another fortune to craft the end tree armor. During that time, you can do a bunch of BGs and have armor and a belt. On to instances. I don't think they should change at level normal instances at all. Fine, but increase epic level drops in heroic instances. As it stands now, the only real reason to do Heroics is for badge hunting. Fine, the badge system is one of the shining points of the game. Sadly, badge hunting is a long process and the end reward items are only a bit better than honor purchased PvP gear, but it's a step in the right direction. I say, increase the opportunities to collect badges. Likewise, the Arena system is another bright spot. The best PvP gear should come from Arena battles. Probably the area of the game that requires the most skill is the arena. Make the best PvE gear only available by raiding. So, high level raids for the best PvE gear and successful arena teams for the best PvP gear. Yes, that means a lot of folks will not have top level epics, but is that any worse than seeing some idiot running around in the Arathi Basin hillls doing Lord knows what so that their team can lose while they still get a marker for the battle? I Suppose I could also rant a little bit about tanking. Mostly, except for raids and high end bosses, I don't see why anyone would want to have a warrior rather than a paladin tank. Don't get me wrong, warriors can tank anything and are more likely to survive the high end stuff than the others, but a paladin is better able to hold group aggro and survives just fine in any area most players are likely to see. Throw out AoE spells and you're good. The warrior tank has to work harder for the same effect. I have played with a lot of druids tanks and, from my experience, good druid tanks are great, but most are inferior to warriors or Paladins. Oddly, on the healing end, I think various healers are balanced pretty well. Sure, you might prefer a holy priest for striaght hps, but a resto druid has some advantages, particularly in certain fights. As far as dungeons/raids go, Burning Crusade had some great ideas. I really like having the outlands dungeons grouped together. Ramps and Blood Furnace for entry level Outlands dungeoneering. Shattered Halls for end level dungeoneering. Underbog/Slave Pens -> Steam Vault. etc. It works well and it makes instances a lot more accessible. Heroic levels of those dungeons are entertaining, but I'd like to see just a bit more of a reward. Maybe one badge for the first boss, two badges for the second, and three badges for the third. That would be a modest increase in badge drops but not an overwhelming advantage. I can't say much about raids. I haven't done a lot. I prefer to play with my own guild and I haven't seen the point in getting enough people of the right classes leveled and geared to run anything before WotLK. I will say, however, that I really enjoy Kara and that we will run it as a guild just for the hell of it pretty soon. Of course, I like WoW, mostly because I have the chance voice chat with family members and friends who are part of my guild. If it were just the game itself, I'd probably have stopped playing and might take it up again when WotLK hits the shelves next month. As it is, I'm looking forward to it and I hope it gives me something new and fun to experience. Take any of my comments for what they're worth. I'm not trying to pick a fight so much as state my opinions about the game and changes I'd like to see in the future.
  12. Inscription. Flying mounts will work at Northend... after you hit level 77 and do "cold-weather-flying" quest chain. Ah, thanks to that link, I saw a link for enchanting: http://wotlkwiki.info/index.php/Enchanting Damn, I still have to level up one of my guildies enchanting and then grind rep for her to get my enchants. That or I have to pay for whatever replaces mongoose.
  13. You do realize that this is, after all, a Star Wars product, yes? It's not supposed to be on the same level as Macchiavelli's Prince - it's a product intended for kids as well. Has it ever been done? Can it even be done? In any given literary work, there's always going to be people who believe that X or Z wasn't tackled with enough depth... I think your disappointment with her character stems from unrealistic expectations. That's fair enough, I guess. Still, I have the same sorts of expectations every time I play a game intended for kids. Why did Kreia rub me the wrong way while Atton didn't? Why was I happy with Mira? I'll own up that maybe this is simply a case of the character rubbing me the wrong way for whatever reason. I think they could have done better. It didn't need to be their chef d'oeuvre, but I felt let down by Kreia in ways I was not disappointed by other charactes in the same work. Granted, I'm not a native English speaker, but I'm replaying the game ATM (go go thievery!) and I think that technically her lines are fine. Can you provide a few examples? Something like two or more years after the fact? No. If it comes down to citing references within the game, I'm afraid I'll have to pass. I don't even own it anymore and I'm not going to ask that my nephews (to whom I gave the game) return it to me by mail from out of state. I can tell you that it had grammatical errors that struck me at the time. Split infinitives and ending sentences with prepositions. That sort of stuff. Hey, I'm not saying that you should not enjoy the character. I'm saying I didn't and that her dialogue detracted from my playing experience. That didn't stop it from being a great game.
  14. at odds with this one: ? Perhaps I was unclear. Just because we have the ability to judge, we take it upon ourselves to judge when it is not our place to do so. Walsingham is correct to point out that this is an internet message board. If the story as presented here inspires someone to dig through the facts of the case and they discover some injustice in doing so, then it makes sense that they'd try to do something about it. That does not come despite the system. It is designed into the system. Blind faith in the system and its rules and unconditional acquiescence with regards to its decisions are at the root of injustice and, at a greater scale, tyranny. This might be a valid argument if the system were inflexible. Do you think the penalty harsh? Change the law. There have been any number of unjust laws, but we have a system that allows for those laws to be changed or removed. Furthermore, we have a system of appeals to deal with situations in which some sort of illegal influence brought about a particular verdict. I did not and do not advocate adherence to an inflexible system, but I do preach support for our current legal system with the understanding that we change specific laws in our system to accomodate the will of society. This also goes for the Constitution. If, based on the four pages or so of member written text, you think you have the case to change the system as it regards this verdict, feel free to make the attempt.
  15. It's human nature to judge. We should be glad. After all, what would we do if we lacked the ability to deliberate and choose between two or more options? Because we have the ability to do so, we make decisions and, because of that same capacity, we question the decisions of others. Enoch was entirely correct. The man was tried before a jury of his peers. That jury found him guilty. Either the jury or the judge decided punishment. That's good enough for me. Buying into our legal system, with all its warts and flaws, is part of accepting the boundaries of our society. We enjoy its fruits because we abide by its demands. Barring some sort of illegal influence, we must take the jury at its word. This doesn't just work for guilty rulings with steep penalties. I felt, and feel, the same way about the famous OJ simpson trial. Did it look to me like he'd done it? Yes. That doesn't matter. He stood trial before a jury of his peers and he was acquitted. I can't lie and say I was happy, but I accepted it as part of my tacit agreement to abide by the laws of my community. So, the man might or might not have gotten what he deserved. However, the question ends in sentencing. If he has room to appeal, then he may yet escape what the jury doled out to him.
  16. I also have terrible motion sickness while playing FPS games. I have, on occasion, used Dramamine and other time used those motion sickness bracelets. Eventually, I get past the motion sickness and can more or less enjoy the game. The game is a clear 'maybe.' I guess I can test the new anti-nausea scheme first hand if I play it.
  17. That's pretty significant praise in my book, Pidesco. Portal was a great experience. I especially like the song at the end. The interview with the stuck up voice actor at the end was a letdown, but that's probably because she reminds me of one of my aunts. Does it have that overall polished feel like portal, or are the game mechanics just that damned good?
  18. Wow, I feel like I've been hiding in a cave for the past year or something. I need to go get it and give it a shot. Spore just isn't cutting it. I guess that means I'm looking forward to buying ME in the next week or two.
  19. Kreia was a terrible character. They clearly intended that she come across as a sort of mentor to the PC and toward that end they spiced up her lines with a lot of extraneous and grammatically flawed dialogue. They tried to give some precision to her voice, but instead she just sounded like someone overextending her vocabulary. Half the members of this forum could come up with better dialogue off the cuff than Obsidian did over the course of development. She was the biggest major gripe I had with what was an otherwise excellent game.
  20. I was mixed up. I think there is some way to save enchantments so that you can send them to yourself or put them to auction. Inscriptions is a new way to augment spells, I guess. I would say that, in anticipation of purchasing WotLK, you should level up someone to be your workhorse for gathering. Once you've ramped up your professions to the max, you really don't need any material until you plan on making something. That means you can have one character do the grunt work and have your other characters maxed with profession specific gear. Hell, once you get raid stuff, even a lot of your crafting stuff won't matter as much. I really wish there were some great single player games on the horizon. The NWN franchise is all about custom content and multiplayer. Dragon Age is only interesting in that it's a new fantasy game, but I cringe at the staid "high fantasy" setting. WotLK is coming out, but half the time I don't even read the quest text anymore. What we really need a solid, well written CRPG. Maybe I'll give ME a shot, although that's not upcoming. From what I've seen, it isn't well written, but it's a single player game at least. Is ME out for the PC yet?
  21. Oh my goodness! I can finally customize my appearance beyond the ridiculously limited selection I have now?! Woo HOO! YEE HAW! I'm mostly interested in inscriptions in order to provide enchantments. That's the one that let's me save an enchantment so I don't have to wait for my guildies to finally start leveling their enchanters again, right? Inscriptions save enchants? Anyhow, as far as professions go, I have one miner/skinner maxed. Then I have one engineer(350)/blacksmith(maxed). I have a leatherworker/engineer maxed. I have an alchemist(366)/herbalist(maxed). I have an enchanter(371)/tailor(maxed). The only thing I would do different at this point is spring for the epic flyer for my miner/skinner. Since I've had to dole out thousands of gold to my guildies for seed money and epic flyers and whatnot, I only have one epic flyer and it really should be on my gathering professions. I find that I really don't need an epic flyer once my people are max level. Hey, will we be able to use our flying mounts in WotLK? It's in Azeroth, so if we can use them there, we should be able to use them everywhere.
  22. I forgot to mention this one. This is a must buy, and likely on release day. It's not that I'm excited about the release. I'm just glad to be able to move forward with guildies. Right now, I don't want to invest the trouble gearing up our 70s knowing that we're going to replace our current kit within the next five levels of the expansion. Looking back, I guess I sound pretty down about prospective games, and yet I'm still buying them. I bet anything, as jaded as I appear, that I'll really enjoy WotLK when I get it. ...And Enoch's excitement over Fallout 3 is infectious. Hell, I'm kind of thinking of buying the Halo series and Max Payne for the PC. I had them for the xbox, but I just can't figure out the damned controller.
  23. I imagine Dragon Age will be a must buy. I'll probably pickup the new NWN2 expansion. I'm inked for Fallout 3, although I have doubts about it on a variety of levels. None of the above excite me, but that way I can be pleasantly surprised. Still have my ear to the ground otherwise.
  24. Well, what makes Spore good is also what makes it bad. There are so many varieties of ways to win the game. This is especially true in the Space stage, where colonizing, capturing, trading, decorating planets, and just about anything the player can do will earn points. The problem is that it does so many things, it fails to do any of them well. I can't really complain about a game that has entertained me for so many hours, but I find that most of those hours are kind of empy in retrospect. Still, a fun little game. It's not addictive, but who the hell needs another WoW anyhow?
