  1. Sounds kind of like how Darklands handled it, but Darklands handled a lot of locations in a very abstract fashion.
  2. Because it's a top-eject lever-action rifle that frequently has receiver-mounted peep sights installed. The main issue we ran into was getting the view point close enough to the aperture without having the bolt flying into the player's eyeball. The Service Rifle and Assault Carbine aren't "M16s" and even if they were, M16s and AR-15s don't have standardized sights. There are dozens of different options for civilian and military applications. The position of the center post of the front sight relative the outer flanges varies a great deal. The standard M16A2 front sight post is only slightly lower than the flanges. With a peep sight, as long as the center post's top ends immediately at dead center for the zeroed range, it doesn't really matter where the outer flanges are. Well, it matters for the sight picture you're most comfortable with, but you aren't aiming with the flanges. There's a lot of other stuff on the Service Rifle and Assault Carbine that also differs from "standard" M16s (e.g. right side charging handle), but that shouldn't be too surprising considering a) they're not called M16s and b) the AR-15 one of the most versatile and modular weapon platforms on the planet.
  3. I don't agree that Guns are inherently better. Even running around with "just" the Plasma Pistol feels good. It really tears low level enemies apart. With OC ammo, there's almost nothing in the first few plot-progression areas that has enough armor and HP to survive more than a few shots. EWs do have a higher cost of maintenance than Guns, but I believe they are easily competitive in general combat capability post-patch.
  4. You get +10 from skill magazines unless you have Comprehension, which takes it to +20. You can't ever jump a whole "bracket" of difficulty and unless you've invested some points in a skill, you're really only going to be making checks in the sub-60 range even with Comprehension.
  5. It's not consistently reinforced, but Vegas locals occasionally refer to NCR folk as simply "Republicans".
  6. Sell-in is what's shipped to retailers. Sell-through is what is sold from retail to customers.
  7. Yes, that's an Explosive. What do you think it should be categorized as? If you want to take out a single high-HP target quickly, use a weapon like the Anti-Materiel Rifle, Gauss Rifle (if armored/at range), Minigun, Gatling Laser, (if unarmored/at range), Light Machine Gun (mid-range/mid-armor) or 12.7mm SMG (short range/mid-armor). The upgraded Plasma Caster is also very effective when loaded with max charge MFCs. With the right perks, an Unarmed character equipping the Ballistic Fist can wreck deathclaws quickly. Explosives are for groups.
  8. Explosives are meant to be used against groups. The Fat Man is pretty far from useless as long as you keep that in mind.
  9. No. That's the western border. We should have had a check with Major Knight at Mojave Outpost where you can say, "I want to go back to NCR." and just roll the credits.
  10. Oh yeah, all of your textures are compressed into that .bsa. For the companions, there are a few reasons: * It makes the game way easier to have two human companions whom you can equip. * Reduces logical complexity in a variety of scenarios. * Memory. It's hard enough to account for the player's various equipment loadouts in an area. Three human characters with potentially any weapon or armor -- that gets really hard to deal with.
  11. I'm not sure if this is possible. It may be with 10 INT/Educated/Tag!/Comprehension + all books but you'd have to be determined. On the PC, look in your installation folder under Game\Data\textures\interface\loading They are all in .dds format so you will probably want to convert them.
  12. We did find some legacy memory leak issues but I believe we fixed them. However, memory fragmentation will inevitably occur in this engine, which is why clearing a 360's cache can *~ automagically ~* make Oblivion/F3/F:NV go from unstable to stable in some circumstances.
  13. BTW, yes, clearing your Xbox 360 memory cache really does do something!
  14. Long Haul is a utility perk. The only thing it really allows you to do is carry in one trip what (typically) could be carried in two, three, four, etc. Some people really love the utility, others don't. This often has something to do with the player's patience and/or obsessive nature. And yes, travel time does accelerate your H20/FOD/SLP meters.
  15. Yes we constructed that hotel to burn people as a promotion for Fallout: New Vegas. L'chaim!
  16. How we handle food is more similar to how it's handled in STALKER: Call of Pripyat. You can carry food around with you, loot it off of dead bodies, buy it in stores. In MotB, spirit eating presented different logistical challenges. I don't think the feel of our H20/FOD/SLP meters is similar.
  17. You don't engage enemies at a long enough range in F3 or F:NV for the suppression of a supersonic round to be of particularly high value. The "realistic" supersonic crack of a suppressed .308 round is still pretty loud. That said, a quality suppressor firing subsonic ammunition will often only generate sound from the cycling of the action. Since the engine only classifies weapons as "loud", "normal", and "silent", it doesn't leave much room for gradation.
  18. The Gun Runners of the Apocalypse? Good ****ing god. Yeah, I'm not sure if the recording was hard to transcribe but there are a few minor errors in there.
  19. Numbered cards/aces can only be played at the end of one of your caravans. Face cards/jokers can be played on any card in your caravans OR your opponent's caravans. Continuing the numerical direction means up/down. If your cards go 8 6 5, your next card can be 4, 3, 2, A of any suit. Alternately, you could play a higher card of the same suit. For example, if the 5 were the 5 of spades, you could play a 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 as long as it were a spade. You can reverse the direction of a caravan by playing a queen on the last card in the caravan. That caravan also then takes the suit of the queen. Caravan is a non-casino (some might say anti-casino) game that was invented by caravan guards who lacked complete/matching decks. They turned that fact of life into a core element of the game (deck building).
  20. There's always a path through the main storyline if you are a whirlwind of death. You can certainly ruin quests for yourself by slaughtering everyone you see, but there's always a way forward.
  21. Given how highly a lot of RPG fans rate games with terrible frame rates, I'm not so sure about that. With regard to this trailer, specifically, even watching a few seconds of the combat gameplay footage should show that the framerate is solid.
