  1. Well drat. I guess I'm keeping going for flavor, but... Yech. We need good monk Subclasses. Forbidden Fist itself doesn't actually work out too well. Helwalker is insanely dangerous for not a ton of benefit. Shattered Pillar is the best we get, and it's not honestly needed IMO, just go no subclass. ... My god, is Monk another Wizard? One Subclass worth taking and the rest aren't?
  2. So Drug potency WILL eventually increase still? Cuz my Nalpazca isn't actually getting that yet, the character sheet and the buff on my character are still showing the same. I'm not seeing a difference in the combat log either. How much, exactly, do I need to be throwing into Alchemy to get Drugs to start giving extra benefits? I am getting the increased duration though, that's clear. Just... If it's ONLY increased Duration, I'm not 100% sure I care to keep spending all my points there.
  3. Honestly I like the Acc buffs, but that's not why I want Ranger... I want Ranger because no other class is actually geared towards ranged attacking. Fighter is generically good for basically anything. Rogue is okay as ranged attackers, but only if you're okay with letting the majority of the stealth/backstab/invisiblity stuff go to the wayside. Ranger is THE class for ranged attacking... And for some reason it has that random melee attacker linked with it, that it has to keep alive, while also attacking. When you put it that way... It really doesn't make as much sense does it?
  4. TBH? I deal with it A) By killing things faster and thus ending combat. B) An AI conditional to set off Second Wind when I drop under half HP. And C) Trollhide Belt/Cloak to slow down the degen, or Ring of Greater Regeneration. Is Berserker alone purely worth it? Eh... Maybe yes, maybe no. Multiclassed with Fighter I'd say yes just because of Constant Recovery. If you get that Battle Axe from the SSS DLC, and upgrade your Might Inspirations by a tier... Then it is DEFINITELY worth it.
  5. This is hardly the first thread about Alchemy and Drugs... But I can't actually seem to google myself a recent list of what Alchemy does or doesn't do. Apparently it WAS OP, then UP because of an overnerfing... But I can't actually find a current listing. Am I missing some thread somewhere, or has it just not been cared about since this nerf I keep seeing threads about?
  6. I'd say it's also worth noting that this is what the Engwithan gods believe will happen. Or at least what they tell you they believe will happen. And they seem to be in agreement on it, so they're probably not lying. That doesn't mean they're necessarily right. https://media.giphy.com/media/RQzxAaAg3aAU/giphy.gif Arg. You HAD to point that out. Drat. No true answers for us. (
  7. I find it amusing to turn into a crazy murder-hobo personally. But then, I also run Intimidate focused runs and am either mean or a smartass to everyone, so.... Maybe I just have issues with RPing. XD
  8. If Bonded Grief didn't exist, the class would be less problematic. If the pets didn't immediately keel over in all the important fights, that'd be good too. Until one or both of those happen, I'm using the No Companion mod and just ignoring the problem entirely.
  9. Some people don't really LOVE attack focused builds simply because, after you buff... You can just let the AI do the work. Rogue generally takes a bit more micro, as does the new Barbarian subclass. Arcane Archer can involve decent micro if you want. But just going with basic Ranger, it's pretty basic. Pick a target, and that's all. But that's preference for some people. Personally, sometime I like my Watcher to be easy to deal with, so I can set up an AI for them and then micro a companion. If I'm running Tekehu as Druid, or Aloth, I generally want to be micro-ing them, as well as maybe Xoti as a priest. I CAN, if I have to, micro every member of the party... But I don't find that fun, so I stick to one or two people who actually need micro and plan my Watcher to be complex or simple accordingly.
  10. That's less 'Eternal Mystery' and more 'God, why do all these people suck as people?' But perhaps that's an opinion thing.
  11. My opinion on this is heavily biased, but I did not play a single class Ranger. I played a Barbarian/Ranger, and so I had to split my skills a bit more. Because of that, the pet well and truly sucked most of the time. I don't know if heavily investing into the pet passives would increase its durability and damage enough to make a dent, but bonded grief is awful and this was when the game was considerably easier on even Veteran than it currently is, while also only scaling the critical path up. The only way to get around that was to either always be storing two emergency bond for the pet rez, or simply keep your pet as far away from combat as possible. Ghost Hearted circumvents this problem, and if I could do it all over again, that's what I would have picked. No idea why the class is considered "good" now compared to previously either (as a hybrid, it was already pretty good, but all I heard was grief about single class Rangers). If you don't mind babysitting the pet more than anyone else, then maybe Sharpshooter or simply the basic Ranger would be better for you. I have tried specifically taking all the pet passives... The damage does eventually get decent if you're applying a sneak attack debuff. The durability is passable for your average fight. For the actually important fights, the pet dies. Every time. All the time. And Bonded Grief is awful. So you either waste resources fighting through Bonded Grief, or for Heal/Revive Companion. That gets even worse if you're rolling Arcane Archer, who certainly do NOT want to be wasting Bond on anything but Marked Prey and Imbued shots. Like I said earlier, I feel like Animal Companions bring the Ranger down. Ranger is the only class specifically built for ranged attacking, and it has this thematic ball and chain around its neck. It's annoying. Very glad someone helped me out and posted that No Companion mod, because Companions stink.
  12. Quite true:https://jesawyer.tumblr.com/post/173973262826/pillars-of-eternity-2-spoilers-as-i-understand Josh claimed to have written a detailed design document which explains how everything works/worked, however it is not knowledge that is known by characters in game. I could really use a rewritten ending for Deadfire. It raises too many questions and regularly makes players question lore’s integrity. I feel like the largest part of the issue, in universe, is the extreme lack of reliable sources. The Gods may or may not know, and if they do, you can't trust them to tell you the truth, partially or fully. Nobody currently alive knows, though they can see some effects that they assume are worldwide, but they can't be sure, partly because sharing information really doesn't seem to be a big thing in Eora like it is in real life. The old Engwithans we speak to don't speak on the matter, and even if they did, none of the Engwithans we speak to that are dead were part of the project, and Thaos is... Well, Thaos. He can't possibly be trusted to tell you the truth. It seems like they were going for an eternal mystery kind of feel and didn't quite nail it down.
  13. I was the same earlier today. So I posted this thread. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/107701-ranger-companions/ I hate Animal Companions as well, they feel like a punishment on the Ranger class as a whole. But the mod linked in that thread allows for a 'No Companion' choice... Works with Arcane Archer. Haven't checked the others. As for Sharpshooter in particular... 4M was often farther away than I realized, so it was at times annoying if I didn't want the extra pen from being up close.
  14. So, assuming we trust Berath, because the Engwithans fiddled with Reincarnation, she believes it won't go back to how it was before. That right? I guess that that's the best we're getting. Without a canon explanation of exactly what happened to souls before... (And for that matter, exactly what was happening to souls after the Wheel, since we don't get full explanations there either,) we'll just never really know what happens when the Wheel is broken unless POE 3 is made.
  15. Oh thank god that one actually works with Arcane Archer. Thank you, kind sir... Now I can finally enjoy the Ranger class without the malus that is an Animal Companion.
  16. How do we know this? That seems like a big assumption for Obsidian to ask us all to accept blindly. Why would Thaos tell them? In his mind, it wouldn't matter. The system was made to last forever. If it was ever threatened, he and the Leaden Key would deal with it, or if they couldn't, the gods themselves would. Why bother giving them knowledge they have no use for? It's not like he would feel nostalgic about the old 'system' he replaced, and ramble on about it. Plus, Thaos seems to clearly sees himself as inferior to the gods, even though he had a hand in making them. You don't go telling your far-more-powerful bosses random stuff they don't want to know, you avoid speaking to them whenever you don't have to so you don't piss them off. I'm not trying to be contradictory here guys, I'm just not seeing a canon explanation for this certainty of the gods that somehow the Wheel remaining broken will doom the world. It will doom THEM, certaintly, and I wouldn't put it past them to BS the Watcher to make them THINK the world is doomed, just so the Watcher saves them.... So relying on just them saying it's bad seems off, considering none of them are actually trustworthy except the one breaking the Wheel.
  17. The second guessing is because throughout the gods act like big children. They also were made by the Engwithans... They existed AFTER the Wheel. They have no idea what the world was like before the Wheel other than anything the Engwithans might have mentioned in passing. The gods have never actually seen the world without the influence of the Wheel, they have NO idea what they're talking about. As for the second part....Yeah, Eothas does seem like he'd be that over-the-top optimistic. Fair point.
  18. Why would the flow stop? Your anology isn't accounting for NEW souls. There had to have been a constant flow of new souls for the Engwithans to even exist, OR there already had to be reincarnation and they just moved it. Either way, the idea that the flow will stop doesn't make sense... Nor, to be honest, would it make sense with Eothas' whole 'I'm helping the Kith' thing, because at that point destroying the Wheel would leave Kith one lifetime to fix the Wheel before the world suffers permanent unfixable consequences.
  19. Your example doesn't fit though. He caused a new condition in his body. The Wheel isn't a new condition, it's an alteration of an existing thing. To take the earlier River example... Either there was a River of Souls flowing in to the world, which the Engwithans then ignored, instead trapping some of the existing Water of Souls in a loop, outside the River's flow, and thus not actually affecting the River... Or, the River of Souls was already looping, and the Engwithans simply added a specific passage for the River to flow through. In neither case is it shown/implied that the Kith will suddenly start having Hollowborn kids again. The Gods, of course, are screwed without the Wheel, it powers them... But the Kith should be just fine.
  20. That just doesn't make sense with POE 1 though. Souls existed and were doing their own thing before the Engwithans made the Wheel. So either Souls weren't being reincarnated, and thus the Wheel being removed is no threat... or Souls were being reincarnated, and the Wheel redirected that flow of reincarnation, so they're worried that maybe the old, pre-Wheel flow won't be restored properly. Either way, since we know the Engwithans are responsible for the Wheel, we know that somehow Souls were either coming new into the world, or being reincarnated, before the Wheel ever existed, since the Engwithans had Souls themselves.
  21. ... How did that come to pass, though? Souls came into the world before the Wheel... Were they already reincarnated then, and the Wheel just diverted that usual flow a bit to power the gods? Cuz if that's the case.... It's maybe a bit more reasonable everyone's freaking out about it. To be clear, I get why KITH are freaking out... But the gods and the Watcher both know about the Engwithans and I really don't understand why they are acting like the consequences could be dire for the Kith.
  22. ... What speculation? On the Wiki it does say that. I'm not speculating about what the Wiki says, nor am I claiming the Wiki is correct. I'm just saying that's what it is. The 'period' wasn't there for emphasis, but for clarity, as the question at hand was between two similar phrases. On Hit versus On Hit With Weapons. Just clarity, not speculation or certainty or anything.
  23. Because everything that goes through attack resolution (ACC vs. defense roll) is considered to be an attack. Static Charge only gets applied by melee attacks afaik. But maybe the triggering on crit that releases the charges can be done with all kinds of attack rolls? Didn't use it for a while... On Wiki it says on Hit, period. It has a seperate chance on hit with weapons to activate lightning strikes, but if the Wiki is right, Static Charge is just on hit/on crit generically. Which makes sense given that you can bind it to Druid and get +3 storm power levels.
  24. Is there a mod out there that just lets me take 'No Companion'? I actively do NOT want a companion. I don't want him in the back of the party, or set to defend self only.... Just not THERE. I feel like the dang things are a punishment because of Bonded Grief, and I don't want to be wasting Bond keeping it alive that I could instead be using on damage... And if I go Arcane Archer, I REALLY don't want it around costing Bond and getting hit with my spell shots. The closest I'm finding is this: https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/207?tab=description Which has 'No Companion', but doesn't actually... Function properly with Arcane Archer. It also adds other tweaks, which I don't specifically mind but also don't really want. I know basically nothing about modding... So if anyone can link me a tutorial on how to rip the 'No Companion' part of that mod out and just use that, I'll try that.
