  1. It seems more rogue-ish than my layout. What type of paladin did you pick for your run? Goldpact gets Sworn Enemy for free at level one I'm going to review to see if i want to change anything in my layout that matches yours. I'm certainly missing things like Greater Lay on Hands and any sort of mobility move. Thats why i'm wondering where escape can go in my current line up.
  2. So I've done some minor updates to both the builds, and answered a couple of the users below. I realized that i forgot about the permanent stat increase from the Cauldrons Brew from Outcast's Respite, so I would like some input on where to fit that point into each build. For Build #1 - if someone could see if we can fit escape in there (it may not be needed but it would be a good option)? For Build #2 - is it possible to add a couple offensive fighter skills in here or are they even worth it (there are SO many good skills to choose from)? I just don't know what to change, the overall feel is incredibly tanky and I hope somewhat fast at killing but I'm not to certain, so I'd really appreciate some feedback on the abilities. That being said I do feel like I've done a good job here for a devoted character. Lots of active... I think For both #1 and #2 i was hoping for some general approval on the whole build, including attributes, abilities, and gear choices. I think the skills are pretty set in stone due to the need to open locks, free healing ability and history for cauldrons brew. OH, also Scion of Flame... yay or nay? 4. Yeah, so about that... Let me just note that (IMO) you'll probably want to have two weapon sets, one of which is a weapon and shield set-up. The first you can use while trying to get Bloodied, and the second you can switch to once you get Bloodied (so you don't die). For the toughest fights, there is (IMO) a pretty much optimal weapon set-up for this kind of build: Animancer's Energy Blade and Bronlar's Phalanx. The Animancer's Energy Blade does raw damage, and so completely ignores armor. This is huge against crazy bosses who have armor that's off the charts (though it's suboptimal against low armor targets); I found myself doing about x4 more damage with it than with my default weapon. And Bronlar's Phalanx is perfect fit for boss fights with a Streetfighter -- it gives an increasing (up to +20) additional deflection bonus as you lose health, and has an enchantment that provides a +1 stacking armor bonus and regeneration if you hit Near Dead (25% health). So switching from a two weapon set up to using Bronlar's Phalanx will increase your deflection by up to +46(!), increase your (already pretty amazing) armor by 1, and give you yet another source of regeneration. In my experience, this has an enormous effect on how survivable these uber-boss fights are. With that massive deflection boost, the bosses will often miss (triggering ripostes), and more importantly, will never crit you, and so never get the penetration to go through your armor. That makes a huge difference to how much damage they can inflict on you; to the extent to which exalted endurance, a ring of major regeneration, and Bronlar's Phalanx (when you dip to 25%) provide enough regeneration to almost entirely offset the damage they're doing (with Lay on Hands being something you can still whip out in emergencies). TLDR: You'll probably want to have a weapon and shield set-up for the toughest boss fights, and so will want to sink a feat into Weapon and Shield style (even if you don't want to use that set-up all the time). Makes sense to be honest. I just prefer not to be using a shield in 90% of the encounters.
  5. I was hoping not. Ultimately I think I'd be using rogue offensive abilities as much as possible. I was actually hoping for some input on ability layouts. 6. Hello everyone, so I completed my run with a Goldpact/Streetfighter (had to switch to medium armor for the Boars, then back to Heavy for the Drake), in the end I was able to solo the entire first island. Though feeling more vulnerable than my Devoted run, I think the clear winner here from all the discussions seems to point toward Streetfighter. I hope you’ll stick with me as we put this build together. For a jumping off point I’ll use u/ whimpers stats (he seems to have done this run before and it looks quite viable). Personally I’d like to avoid any sort of shield with this build, I don’t mind being tanky but weapon and shield style just seems so boring… Class: Holy Slayer - Goldpact Knights/Streetfighter Race: Human Attributes: MIG: 18 >> 22 (BB, GoTM, Effigy) CON: 10 >> 12 (BB) DEX: 18 >> 20 (BB) PER: 18 >> 20 (BB) INT: 3 >> 5 (BB) RES: 11 >> 13 (BB) Abilities: Level 1 (GP): Flames of Devotion (SF): Crippling Strike Level 2 (GP): Deep Faith Level 3 (GP): Retribution Level 4 (GP): Zealous Aura (SF): Dirty Fighting Level 5* (GP) / (SF): Two-Handed Style or Two Weapon Style Level 6 (GP): Lay on Hands Level 7 (GP): Sworn Rival (SF): Riposte Level 8 (GP): Eternal Devotion Level 9 (SF): Debilitating Strike Level 10 (GP): Exalted Endurance (SF): Persistent Distraction Level 11 (GP): Divine Purpose Level 12 (SF): Finishing Blow Level 13 (GP): Uncanny Luck (SF): Deep Wounds Level 14 (SF): Deep Wounds Level 15 (SF): Eliminating Blow Level 16 (GP): Improved Critical (SF): Slippery Mind Level 17 (GP): (SF): Level 18 (GP): (SF): Level 19 (GP): Virtuous Triumph (SF): Death Blows Level 20 (GP): (SF): * Can defeat the Drake encounter on the first island at this point. 7. How is this achieved? I never noticed it during any of the fights. You must have achieved it, but maybe missed it. "Heating Up" is the condition prior to "On the Edge", when you're flanked, but not yet blooded or blooded, but not flanked. It provides 50% Recovery reduction too, btw. Of course the bonuses persist when you're both Flanked and Bloodied and "On the Edge" (when additional +100% Crit damage kicks in). I totally missed it. Seems like when you are about 50% health it kicks in.
  8. Streetfighter gets +30% Damage from Sneak Attack and +100% crit damage while bloodied and flanked, what pretty much outdamages every other matial class. And here is where streetfighter gets a huge vote. The majority of fights involve swarms of enemies. the faster you can kill the swarm the faster you can move on. I think I've build my test wrong in this case, the starts are probably not going to make the streetfighter tanky enough. How is this achieved? I never noticed it during any of the fights. How does that work? the automatic deathblows, I've built a street fighter before and feel like I've missed out then... Survival wise will the streetfighter catch up to the devoted later in the game? As for the boar fight, I'll switch back to medium armor and give it another retry. In the end what would you say the more optimal build is? Devoted or Streetfighter? That ring... that seems super OP "Resistance to Perception, Intelligence, and Resolve afflictions" Doesn't resolve raise your deflection though? and isn't that a good thing wither either devoted/paladin or streetfighter/paladin? For the perception comment. I feel like i want to max perception with a devoted class to achieve over penetration (I believe that's how it works, though I've been wrong so many times in this thread it hurts). I think a minimum of 16 perception will allow you to see every trap in the game as well won't it? Yeah, LoH is the one ability you kind of care about that gets hit by the low Int. But combined with Exalted Endurance and a very high armor, I've found LoH to still be good enough (with a maxed Might) to get me through boss fights. And there's a weird way in which the smaller healing bumps you get from LoH with a low Int is good for a Streetfighter, since it makes it easier for you to control your healing, and keep yourself in the Bloodied zone. But yeah, there is a cost. But that cost is easily outweighed (IMO) by all the benefits you get by plunking those 13 points into other stats instead... I feel like the majority of the time I'd be using up all my zeal on Sworn Enemy since i'd want to remain gilded as much as possible, for that reason i don't see using LoH of FoD as offten. Also i don't think Exalted Endurance stacks with gilded, so that leaves you with the accuracy aura or the stride aura. Not even sure which on to pick at this point. of course this is all if streetfighter is the clear winner here (and it seems like the majority of people are leaning that way). If devoted is the winner I'd definitely want to get that INT way up there so disciplined strikes can last longer.
  9. Thank you I was so annoyed with it, I hope they fix it soon. What is the end combat button at level 4? Fair point. I suppose my reasoning behind testing the first island is because I feel like if a character can pass the drake fight it should in theory be able to handle ship battles (at least the ones that are around the same level. The whole approach to judge a character by performance on starting island, sadly doesn't work at all since v 1.2 and "new" PotD, at least in a solo game there are far harder challenges in the endgame and you won't judge a character by level 5 at all, but rather around level 15-16 since you can almost completely avoid combat till level 16, but there is plenty of fights which prove a challenge at level 20, since with upscaling (all) there is plenty of creatures higher level than you, BoW dragon for example has 3 skulls if pc is level 20 and the first burning archer ambush is super hard for most classes, paladin or fighter mc is almost necessary here and something like streetfighter would most likely underperform since there is almost no flanking in these fights. I see, well thats good in a way. I"m really just hoping to build a character that can solo the game melee. I see a ton of arguments for streetfighter over devoted with this combo. Are you saying that goldpact/devoted would perform better than goldpact/streetfighter in the late game bosses?
  10. TEST #5.1 - Goldpact Knights/Streetfighter General Opinion: Downgraded from Very Strong to Strong Location of Death: Digsite Boars (specifically a single 3 skull boar) Reason for Death: Streetfighter makes you squishy, even with heavy armor. MIG: 16 CON: 8 DEX: 16 PER: 16 INT: 16 RES: 6 Armor: Fine Brigadine (Heavy armor) Weapons : Fine Greatsword Neck: Protective Eothasian Charm Belt: Girdle of Mortal Protection Ring 1: Ring of Minor Protection Ring 2: Ring of Minor Deflection Hands: Killers Gloves Cloak: Cloak of Greater Deflection Head: Deaths Maw Boots: Boots of the Stone Pet: Stinky Pete Skill Focus: Athletics/Mechanics History CONCLUSION: I could see that DPS-wise streetfighter will out preform Devoted. However, during the early levels you will be punished with multiple reloads. Are we talking a huge DPS difference between the two classes? From what I see rouge is just slightly better in terms of damage (thought I’ve yet to run the same stats). The point difference is a single hit point across the spread of the run. Devoted on the other hand could stand in the middle of a swarm and basically stay around full health. Also I noticed a bug with two handed where the character doesn’t attack but the sound of the weapon swing plays, you physically have to disengage and tee gage to attack again.
  11. To each their own. Personally I enjoy the power gaming aspect. However I do believe if we all work together we can come up with a melee build that will work both ways
  12. Currently viable only Heavy Armor, especially Black one with -1 Armor for offensive setup and Painted for defensive What does this mean DPS-wise? If I went Devoted I’d probably go DoC cause it’s amazeballz.
  13. UPDATE: Goldpact/Streetfighter So I loaded up quickly to see how I’d do with heavy armor. Looks like that’s the winner. Heavy armor makes the fight significantly easier. I’ll continue this run in heavy armor and report back when I have a moment. I will be attempting to kill Imari and his gang as part of this run. One question I do have is if Streetfighter relies on heavy armor we are missing out on 4 resource points with DoC.whats the best choice here, is it still Reckless Brigadine? Or is DoC still an option passed level 10? Since I’m planning on focusing intimidate is Casita Sameilia's Legacy seems viable?
  14. I thought it was both? Possibly the reason it wasn’t as survivable was the armor choice? I could have gone heavy armor but I went for medium.
  15. TEST #5 - Goldpact Knights/Streetfighter General Opinion: Very strong Location of Death: Gorecci Street Reason for Death: Streetfighter makes you squishy. MIG: 16 CON: 8 DEX: 16 PER: 16 INT: 16 RES: 6 Armor: Fine Breastplate Weapons : Fine Greatsword Neck: Protective Eothasian Charm Belt: Girdle of Mortal Protection Ring 1: Ring of Minor Protection Ring 2: Ring of Minor Deflection Hands: Killers Gloves Cloak: Cloak of Greater Deflection Head: Deaths Maw Boots: Boots of the Stone Pet: Stinky Pete Skill Focus: Athletics/Mechanics History CONCLUSION: Tanky but not as much as Devoted. Very good damage. Once again I rushed this run, I feel like if I wasn't rushing she probably would have survived this fight. I gave it a got 2 times just to be certain that it wasn't just me making a dumb mistake. I can see how this would be higher DPS in the end, provided you are willing to get and stay bloodied. I think my next run will be a Devoted again with the same stats as above. I should be able to fairly report back at that stage on whether one is tankier than the other (since resolve changed with this build). Lastly Damage varies from about 18 to 69.
  16. I would dex put to 8 --- > 10 with BB and put the rest of it into INT or your disciplined strikes will constantly run out very quick. You know, I did notice that during my test run. I had to empower myself most fights to refresh my skills. If I take away dex won’t I attack to slow though? Or do you think reckless brigandine will be enough to offset that? Also interns of survival and dps, is Goldpact/Devoted more stable than Goldpact/Streetfighter?
  17. Hello everyone, I was hoping for some opinions on how to optimize this build a bit more. I feel like I have a loose grasp on what each stat will do for the build but I would like to refine it a bit more to maximize DPS and Tankiness. I specifically want to know whether I should drop or increase any stats (ie. less PER for more DEX)? Is +4 Armor rating a big deal? During my initial tests it was amazing for the first 5 levels.
  18. TEST #4 - Goldpact Knights/Devoted General Opinion: This may be the build, with some tweaking... WOW Location of Death: N/A - Did not die on drake fight – same split as Devoted/Streetfighter Reason for Death: N/A MIG: 14 CON: 8 DEX: 14 PER: 18 INT: 8 RES: 16 Armor: Fine Breastplate Weapons : Fine Greatsword Neck: Protective Eothasian Charm Belt: Girdle of Mortal Protection Ring 1: Ring of Minor Protection Ring 2: Ring of Minor Deflection Hands: Killers Gloves Cloak: Cloak of Greater Deflection Head: Deaths Maw Boots: Boots of the Stone Pet: Stinky Pete Skill Focus: Athletics/Mechanics History CONCLUSION: Very tanky and good damage. I completely rushed this run in under 30 minutes. I was able to solo ANY fight on the first island (save attacking the town). Damage veries from about 17 to 68. Average swings of your great sword will hit between 37 and 48. Method is to use disciplined strikes followed by mark a sworn enemy. I never used lay on hands. I did during the drake fight drain 5 potions and my athletics heal. I would like to know your thoughts on this build and what I can do to improve it?
  19. Its not so much about risk proof. Its more about the first island being stupid hard, I feel like if you can beat this island than there should be no issues with the rest of the game (as long as you stay within your level).
  20. Hello Guys, As promised (I haven’t forgotten about you or this thread). I’ve been a busy gal working out some builds. I decided to test a few and let you know what I thought/results. All trials were completed on either base PoTD or Veteran all up scaled (which I view as comparable). Each Character achieved level 5 (unless death) prior to starting the Drake fight at the Digsite. All trials ended on this fight (win or lose), if I felt that I could pass the final fight but lost, I also gave it a retry. Up until this point each character was required to complete the following areas/encounters 100%: Vilario's Rest – Cave Gorecci Street – Fight Looters (split and run allowed) Digsite – Boars and Imps (run allowed, no split) Digsite – Skeletons Digsite – Drake (run allowed, no split) So, without making you wait! Let me show you my results: Kind Wayfairer/Troubadour General Opinion: BORING!!! So… soo… sooooo… bland. Wait til summons are available, summon, tank damage, summons dispel, repeat. Location of Death: Gorecci Street – Fight Looters Reason for Death: So goddamn weak… Stats: MIG: 16 CON: 7 DEX: 16 PER: 16 INT: 16 RES: 7 Armor: Fine Brigandine Weapons (MH): Fine Saber Weapons (OH): Fine Large Shield Neck: Protective Eothasian Charm Belt: Trollhide Ring 1: Ring of Minor Protection Ring 2: Ring of Unshackling Hands: Swordsman’s Bracers Cloak: Cloak of Greater Protection Head: Deaths Maw Boots: Shorewalker Sandals Pet: Cutthroat Cosmo Skill Focus: Athletics/Mechanics History Trickster/Devoted General Opinion: Tanky and fun. A bit slow to kill, but the illusion spells are pretty cool. Location of Death: Digsite – Drake Reason for Death: Overwhelmed MIG: 12 CON: 7 DEX: 7 PER: 19 INT: 17 RES: 16 Armor: Fine Breastplate Weapons (MH): Fine Saber Weapons (OH): Saber Neck: Protective Eothasian Charm Belt: Girdle of Mortal Protection Ring 1: Ring of Minor Protection Ring 2: Ring of Minor Deflection Hands: Killers Gloves Cloak: Cloak of Greater Deflection Head: Deaths Maw Boots: Boots of the Stone Pet: Cutthroat Cosmo Skill Focus: Athletics/Mechanics History Streetfighter/Devoted General Opinion: Fast and hard hitting, feels squishy, like you are dancing on a razors edge. Hard to explain but I always feel like she’s going to die. Location of Death: N/A - Did not die on drake fight – accidental split on retry, if you stand at the top of the stairs next to the statue just behind the pillar thing, the imps stay at the bottom of the stairs unable to attack… Reason for Death: N/A MIG: 12 CON: 12 DEX: 8 PER: 18 INT: 8 RES: 20 Armor: Fine Breastplate Weapons (MH): Fine Saber Weapons (OH): Saber Neck: Protective Eothasian Charm Belt: Girdle of Mortal Protection Ring 1: Ring of Minor Protection Ring 2: Ring of Minor Deflection Hands: Killers Gloves Cloak: Cloak of Greater Deflection Head: Deaths Maw Boots: Boots of the Stone Pet: Cutthroat Cosmo Skill Focus: Athletics/Mechanics Intimidate CONCLUSION: Non-of these builds are for me. Kind Wayfairer/Troubadour = Too blah Trickster/Devoted = Resource heavy Streetfighter/Devoted = STRONG, but I don't want to dance that line. Next up Goldpack/Devoted and Darcozzi/Skald Does anyone think Ranger/Devoted would be any good solo? When you solo the game, you have to cheese many fights, regardless of the class. But you can do every fight in the game with a marauder / holy slayer. When you talk about these two builds I assume you are talking: berserker/streetfighter and a goldpack/streetfighter?
  21. For some people, feeling powerful is half the fun (or even all of it.) Well said. A game that doesn't give me that in the end game is a bad game in my book. Exactly. On another note, I’m in the process of testing 3 builds posted here. Results soon:)
