The ending really drove home to me how much the main plot isn't the game. I'm making a decision that is likely to affect the world forever. It will impact everything and everyone. Yet every companion, faction or small area got as much attention in the post-game story as the implication of this decision did. It also bothered me greatly that Eothas assumed that the gods had persuaded me to their side in the end game dialog options. Not only could I not make the decision I wanted but the few decisions close enough to what I wanted he made a statement about how its not my choice but one of the gods choices that I'm just going along with.

Ydwin is the best non-caster ranged dps I found, sidekick not companion but still. Cipher and Rogue both offer great weapon damage bonuses.

You won't be missing on by making him full caster. Even with his terrible stat allocation he is best back line offensive caster in the game due to his unique spells and them being Foe-only aoe. He has a lot of them but Chill Fog specifically is crazy good.
