  1. Ya bud, you kinda narrowed it down a little too far there. There are probably some decent Japanese RPGs on the Playstation 2 that would fit your requirements, but none aside from Jade Empire I can think of on the Xbox that you've haven't tried. There's a fairly good old game on the Xbox called Enclave, which is more of a third-person action adventure than an RPG(by my standards), but you can select different characters with different types of abilities throughout the campaign and it's in a medieval setting. There's even an entirely seperate campaign for the "bad side" where you can use their characters after you've completed the good campaign. It can be very difficult in parts though.
  2. Because people bought it? It was obviously an opinion. But I guess I should have been more clear once again that it was just an opinon, just like I tried to be in the first paragraph of that post which you conveniently failed to notice: What, do you think I'm under the impression I decide what direction all game design decisions go? The gameplay sucks. There's nothing there to admit. The above was an opinion, not a statement of fact. Don't go around telling people what they can and can't say or think. That's the second time you've told me what opinions I can't express. Who do you think you are to dictate such things? I think the game sucks and said as much. Shut up and deal with it or ignore me, but don't think you're in a position to tell people what to do. I'd never debate that the games were popular, I just personally don't understand why. I do think if so many people stopped anticipating purchasing simplistic garbage like that, maybe video games could continue to advance before the medium stagnates and developers who are trying to do interesting things would get more attention. But then again, obviously people don't really feel they need to advance in depth much, so I and others like me lose. Hate for Diablo and the trends it has set in the industry are justified if you don't like that style of game in the first place IMO though.
  3. Diablo was just a really bland game. Click, click, click, click. Some people feel that games -- more specifically, gameplay -- should be more interesting than basic input functions you might use while doing simple, operating system related functions. How anyone could find that exciting from a reflexive standpoint, or even mentally engaging continues to be beyond my comprehension, which is probably for the best. The Diablo's were a friggin $50 human brain treadmill(without the healthy exercise connotations) disguised as a game and Hellgate looks to be much of the same. Dismiss people who don't find games like that interesting as RPG elitists all you want, but it could very well be they're just gamers who understand gameplay should have moved on past fairly mediocre games of the 80's like Gauntlet.
  4. True, FO: T was much, much better. :D
  5. Course I'm not Eldar. I don't know about lumping me into the "you" category either, as I have no favoritism as far as consoles go if that's what you're implying. The fact is, no one should make stuff up(or get it from an unreliable source), present it as a fact, and then let it go at that. It's just inconsiderate and somewhat under-handed. 10k fists hasn't done anything to warrant something as drastic as a banning. It's not like we're writing college research papers here. I was merely pointing out that maybe for his own benefit, and the benefit of other discussing a topic, he should check his facts before throwing them out there. I have no clue who this Ephiphany guy is. Fanboys tend to blend together under a banner of ignorance in my mind. You're waaaay off base. For the record, I think the majority of Mkreku's opinions are moronic and 10k fists has made some good one's in this thread. I was merely jumping in as an unbiased spectator. Okay. I really don't like targetting and belittling people, so maybe it was unfair to only point out 10k fists misleading statements - though they were regular enough for me to have taken notice of. However, he did ask me to back it up, which was the least I could do without just being an accusatory ass and leaving it at that. Don't be silly.
  6. Both of those claims were untrue as Microsoft themselves admitted sales were disappointing. False. Link Some things are hard to prove to be completely untrue, even though the statement might be highly questionable and misleading. For example: April 28, 2006 10 million(over triple the sales currently) by early winter is a bit of a stretch. Someone taking you at your word who hadn't looked at sales figures might be fooled by statements like that into assuming that's a reasonable estimation though. Another kind of statement where you'd be well-served to back up with some info, as statements like that are fairly vague and hard to prove either way. Too much work? Take your own advice: All I'm pointing out is that every once in a while, it's good to use a link when making factual statements.
  7. Your console sucks so bad, your house imploded when you brought it home!
  8. My console could beat up your console.
  9. When tossing quotes, specifications, and statics around, you really should provide links. Usually I take people at their word and rarely ask for links on forums, but I've noticed several things you've mentioned in the past were in fact, completely untrue. Like earlier when you mentioned how the Xbox 360 is selling great in Japan, or better than the Xbox? That was a fabrication. Didn't bother calling you on it earlier, but enough is enough: Dec 2005 Inital Sales Figures
  10. How far did ya get Volourn? Once you decide who you want to side with, motivations start getting more prominent, but yeah there's usually been a more subtle sense of purpose in the Gothic games in the first 3/4 of them. Good to see you're keeping an open mind about the third though. Whew!
  11. [i recognize the name. No member of the Thief team should be forced to work at EA though.
  12. The more options to solve situations in CRPGs, the better. I do wish more games provided diplomatic solutions to their games. However, Americans, and even our Canadian brethren(baby seal clubbers!) -- though they may not admit it -- are obsessed with violence and therefore it must be the focus of all RPGs if they wish to be successful. I mean naturally, heroes primarily kick the **** out of stuff, they don't talk through delicate situations or anything boring like that. That's why there are confused posts in this thread from a few people: "Wait...non-violent solutions to problems? WTF kinda RPG would that be?"
  13. First of all, any RPG fan needs to try the Gothic games...and I mean really try them. Yes the control scheme seems absolutely abysmal the first 20 minutes or so with the games which turns a lot of people off from them, but then it begins to become quite comfortable and difficult to imagine it being done any other way if you can hang in there. You have to play as the Nameless Hero; a bearded dude with a ponytail, but you can shape his personality through dialogue options and choices and the charcter is voiced well. On mods: When reviewing a game, I don't think they should be taken into account, but if there are some great stand-alone; non enhancement mods like with Morrowind available for a game, then it may justifiably bump them up the recommendation ladder. However, the vast majority of NWN mods were wretched and a waste of time to even wade through. I thought the OC was fairly decent, as were the expansion OC's, but I'd still never recommend that game to someone in good faith.
  14. 110!? Ya sicko.
  15. I was kinda over-exaggerating about the FR comment earlier. I may hate the setting, but a good game can overcome that. Plus people go hog wild over FR games. Still... Angsty, S&M loving drow Chubby halflings Annoying, edgy gnomes Boring wizards Cheesey dragons Psychic vampire octopus heads Uninteresting gods and factions +2 Weapons of Retardation & creatures who require +3 Weapons of Retardation to be hit Damn you to hell Drizzt!
  16. Wow, I have to admit many of the things they mentioned have peaked my interest in the game quite a bit. If only slashing my wrists still didn't seem preferable to playing another FR game.
  17. If the idea of playing a game as a complex, bald, modern day assassin sounds appealing to you: absolutely. Or if you have any interest in stealth games what so ever. Agent 47 is a memorable character for a guy grown in a lab, one of the best I'd say. The series has built up a solid and somewhat interesting background story and gameplay experience over the course of 4 games now too. Silent Assassin(Hitman 2) and Contracts(3) are still very good games and despite their age, the graphics still look okay. Both of them can be found very cheaply these days too, so if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to check the series out, those might be a good starting point.
  18. Went to the store last night only to find out it's not released in the States until today. That'll teach me to pay closer attention to official release dates. I blew my budget for a game on Might and Magic V on an impulse, so no BloodMoney for me for a while.
  19. I've heard it from other sources too though. In Llyranor's quote, all she says is that the disks themselves will be playable on other PS3's, not copy protected to one machine. Nothing about trading. Besides, don't rain on my parade.
  20. Europeans are all uber pirates anyway.
  21. Awesome. I hope this catches on with all the console manufacturers. It will smack EB and GameStop in the face, as they make most of their money from selling "used" games for like under $5 of what it costs new and $30 more than what they pay someone trading it in. Plus it will generate better sales for games. That'll teach you to marginalize the PC section in order to further run your scams, bitches!
  22. Looks like a good card at a good price to me Kumquat.
  23. Okay, that really doesn't sound so bad. I've always enjoyed the series, so I'll be picking it up eventually. Contracts was meant to be disjointed as it was mainly just 47 recalling old hits while in a state of delirium.
  24. Good point, but the other methods were so befitting of a modern assasin/hitman, rather than just bopping them over the head with brute force like a cave man.
