  1. Quoting Rockstar Games.

We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models.

Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or "Red Lighting" after having installed 3.61. This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.

At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates.

The thread that info came from has been deleted.

Rockstar has retracted its accusation that firmware 3.61 causes PS3 versions of L.A. Noire to crash and freeze due to the console overheating.

Sony last night condemned Rockstar's claim as "rumour" and "speculation". Rockstar has removed the offending post from its website.

Rockstar's support FAQ has been updated to offer routine troubleshooting steps for L.A. Noire owners experience problems on both PS3 and Xbox 360. There's no mention of PS3 firmware 3.61.

  2. Obviously prohibition should come back.

I mean, is alcohol worth dying for?

That depends.. if you count it as one of the few ways Darwin's theory of evolution still works for humanity.. We've taken so much environmental danger out of the pool..so personal stupidity should have consequences.. :p

It's all fun and games when stupid people get themselves killed, not so much when they are also responsible for killing others.

  3. Mostly low settings but with high res textures and aa. FPS in the low 20s, which is good enough for me while looking great.

Now I need to get back to finishing the first one.

  4. I'll be interested to see how this performs on my Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.61Ghz / XP / 9600GT / 2GB RAM given that this system has done surprisingly well for me so far. I'm not expecting much.

  5. Is there backwards compatibility between old and new consoles of a type?

PS3 can play PS1 games, but only certain older PS3 models can play (some/all?) PS2 games. 360 can play some Xbox games. Wii can play Gamecube games, but you need to use an original GC controller.

    Edit: Too slow.

  6. Some of it's not that surprising.. I mean they said with ME2 that one of the key reasons they didn't give you the same team you had in ME1 was so there was no chance they'd be dead by the time ME3 came around.

    - Although after making a point of saying that, they then put Tali and Garrus on the squad again.... So I guess they weren't overworried about their survival. :shifty:

It was only the three romance characters they wanted to protect, and even them one of them would always be dead anyway.

  7. I don't think the comic book crossover comparison really works, this is an add-on for a game you already own, not a separate game in a different series. "Look out for the exciting conclusion to Mass Effect: First Contact War in the upcoming Dead Space: The Delimbening!"

I see it no differently than If I paid fifteen bucks for a movie only to find out months later that the real ending was gonna cost me an extra $2.50.

The problem with this is that the DLC doesn't contain the "real ending" to ME2, in fact it's more like "telling a short story in the gameworld". Both LotSB and Arrival are side stories that aren't connected to the main story of ME2. Arrival is more of a prologue to ME3 than an epilogue to ME2.

I guess I'm seeing it more as them taking what would be a "time montage / cinema opening sequence" to ME3, and then breaking it down to a short-form dlc you can actually play if you wanted to get that "insider" feel to it.

That's kinda how I see it. Considering Shepard is on trial for the events of the Arrival DLC, it's not like they are going to skip over important details and assume you already know what happened.

I think Lair of the Shadow Broker is actually a bigger issue for the I-don't-buy-DLC crowd as far as canon is concerned. "Okay gang, let's go pick up

    Liara

who, by the way, is the

    Shadow Broker

    .

Anyway, Bio is apparently doing something similar to the PS3 ME2 motion comic for ME3 that tells you the story so far and lets you make decisions if you are not importing a save game.
