The whole emo-romance Bio thing, with people devoting hundreds of pages of fan-slobbering over imaginary NPCs is creepy. That's what I meant, you know that's what I meant so that was a cheap slur.
An apology would be helpful.
Actually I didn't realise that what what you meant. I do think it's delightful they you want an apology because you were actually insulting a more diverse group of people.

So you think gay people are creepy? Fascinating.
Actually like more than half the people playing those romances aren't gay, otherwise they would be offended. Like the outwardly gay minority is, because quite frankly is all to socially correct. There is no awkwardness at the proposition, no taboo, guilty desire. They took out all the homoeroticism out of the romance, which gives me an idea of the kind of writer that they are.
I'll be honest, I can't quite figure out what you saying here.
I don't think any RPG has ever made romantic relationships particularly interesting, but I don't think Bio did anything wrong in making the romances available to all genders or orientations. Anyway, here's what Dave G had to say out the whiny boys too insecure to deal with optional gay romances in the games they play:
To the OP: doing the same act repeatedly and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. What you hope to achieve by posting the same thread over and over again I can't honestly say.To some of the others on this thread: While an ignorant opinion politely expressed doesn't make it less ignorant, I will say that the behavior of some of you is far worse. Calling someone a "troll" who expressed his thoughts in an intelligent manner and acting like hooligans suggesting if you just throw enough dirt that eventually that person will either go away or the thread will get locked will earn you a ban. No matter the opinion, I think how it's expressed deserves the same in kind. If you can't do that, refrain.
To the issue: I've said it before and I'll say it again-- perhaps a bit more eloquently, since it's apparently of dire concern to some.
The romances in the game are not for "the straight male gamer". They're for everyone. We have a lot of fans, many of whom are neither straight nor male, and they deserve no less attention. We have good numbers, after all, on the number of people who actually used similar sorts of content in DAO and thus don't need to resort to anecdotal evidence to support our idea that their numbers are not insignificant... and that's ignoring the idea that they don't have just as much right to play the kind of game they wish as anyone else. The "rights" of anyone with regards to a game are murky at best, but anyone who takes that stance must apply it equally to both the minority as well as the majority. The majority has no inherent "right" to get more options than anyone else.
More than that, I would question anyone deciding they speak for "the straight male gamer" just as much as someone claiming they speak for "all RPG fans", "all female fans" or even "all gay fans". You don't. If you wish to express your personal desires, then do so. I have no doubt that any opinion expressed on these forums is shared by many others, but since none of them have elected a spokesperson you're better off not trying to be one. If your attempt is to convince BioWare developers, I can tell you that you do in fact make your opinion less convincing by doing so.
And if there is any doubt why such an opinion might be met with hostility, it has to do with privilege. You can write it off as "political correctness" if you wish, but the truth is that privilege always lies with the majority. They're so used to being catered to that they see the lack of catering as an imbalance. They don't see anything wrong with having things set up to suit them, what's everyone's fuss all about? That's the way it should be, any everyone else should be used to not getting what they want.
The truth is that making a romance available for both genders is far less costly than creating an entirely new one. Does it create some issues of implementation? Sure-- but anything you try on this front is going to have its issues, and inevitably you'll always leave someone out in the cold. In this case, are all straight males left out in the cold? Not at all. There are romances available for them just the same as anyone else. Not all straight males require that their content be exclusive, after all, and you can see that even on this thread.
Would I do it again? I don't know. I doubt I would have Anders make the first move again-- at the time, I thought that requiring all romances to have Hawke initiate everything was the unrealistic part. Even if someone decides that this makes everyone "unrealistically" bisexual, however, or they can't handle the idea that the character might be bisexual if they were another PC... I don't see that as a big concern, to be honest. Romances are never one-size-fits-all, and even for those who don't mind the sexuality issue there's no guarantee they'll find a character they even want to romance. That's why romances are optional content. It's such a personal issue that we'll never be able to please everyone. The very best we can do is give everyone a little bit of choice, and that's what we tried here.
And the person who says that the only way to please them is to restrict options for others is, if you ask me, the one who deserves it least. And that's my opinion, expressed as politely as possible.
In a wall of text. Sorry about that.
And I'm sorry if someone didn't get everything they wanted out of the romances-- as I always am. I wish we could do the ideal where there's something for every desire and opinion, but as usual we make do.

People can complaint about the TOTALLY AVOIDABLE BI SEXUAL ROMANCES in BIO games but at least you get a choice.
About that, are they all really bisexual, or do they just have some sort of Schr

They would like to have a console version out at some point but nothing has been confirmed, so for now it remains a PC exclusive. Perhaps they simply don't want to say anything definite given the cancellation of the console port of the original.
-
The inventory and upgrade screens look like they are REALLY pushing the x360 controller option. Which IMO still brings up the question exactly how much do they have the consoles in mind with this supposedly "PC flag bearing" release?
I recall an article where the devs said that the interface was

I always thought anime simply meant any animation made in japan.
No, anime means "cartoons I don't like".
ObTopic: Looking forward to Mass Effect 3 - but no interest in the animation because it won't be "my" Sheppard.Me too, my brother from another mother. Let's be best friends forever.
haters gonna hate?I hate that phrase.
That's because because you're too cool for internet memes.

How did object highlighting work in DX?
Was it a bounding box in the HUD around the object with a text description?
Yeah, though I was thinking more of it only appearing around one object at a time, and only when close to it. I'm fine with the glow.
-
All work on HDTP has stopped a while back. Right now the DNF of mods is Black Mesa.
I tried a version of the HDTP a few years ago, and I didn't like it at all. While the individual updated items might look good in pictures, in the actual game they don't look right at all. They just don't match the rest of the environment.
As much as I'd like the highlighting to work like the original DX and all the complaining to result in EM changing it, that thread hasn't been sticked and there is nothing to suggest the devs are paying any attention.

Sebastian doesn't even want to go in the Fade, so with him in the party you're ****ed :D
I had Sebastian in my party before we went into the Fade but he said something about it being no place for a man of faith, so I replaced him with Aveline (who was the only one not to turn on me) and got 10 friendship points for it.

Highly unlikely we'll get our import of Mortal Kombat, bloody classification board, just give games over here an R18+ rating already instead of banning them. They even banned a censored version of it.
We don't need you Australians exposed to even more violence! Between your constant inebriation and living in a hell world, it could push you over the edge.
I WILL CUT YOU.
A censored MK is missing the point.

Yeah, it was pretty idiotic of all those people who pre-ordered DA2, getting stuff for free that smart people pay for.
-
I read the article. Doesn't matter what the team is, though, when you are looking at a lower-priority port with a third party developer involved on such a complex game it makes every sense to pass on it Day 1 and hear some user reports.
Since you know, worst case scenario is you pick it up Day 1 and this was the one they buggered up. Not so 'moronic', I'd think.
If those who get the PC version without first hearing user reports are morons, then whose opinions are you relying on? What a dilemma.
-
It's Nixxes. Their ports have been solid.Obviously if you pre-order the PC version you're a moron. Let's see if the port is horrible or merely adequate.Yeah, as the article mentions. Nixxes, the team who have created faithful PC ports for the recent Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light, and the superb Tomb Raider: Underworld.
But only morons bother to read the articles.

The first time I got to a city in Assassin's Creed my first thought was "Why can't RPG cities look like this?"
I didn't mind Kirkwall, but it would have been nice if between acts it actually felt like several years had passed.

I am trying to reach you but you aren't anwering. Are we speaking the same language?
Answering what?

I hope both remakes will be co-op like RE5 was. I know they'll have to make some changes to both stories but I think gameplay-wise it would be worth it.
Even without co-op I imagine that would change the story somewhat, much like they did with the remake of the original. That's assuming of course this is an actual remake and not just just a HD upgrade. Personally I'd prefer a remake of 1 & 2 in the style of 4/5.

So, if a game like Deus Ex all ready allows you to express your character by combining, augs, skills, items and mods, which I agree it does, then is adding choices that have no significant impact in the game really neccessary for expression?
It's not necessary, but people like it.
Isn't adding false choices that the game isn't programmed to respond to just kind of a waste of time that could be spent elsewhere?Possibly. People do love customising their character's appearance in RPGs.
-
Every other male hits on you however
Yeah, Anders and that other guy. You don't have to flirt back though.
I suppose if one is the type to freak out should a guy hit on them, then DA2 could very well seem like a "homosexual date sim", as moronic as that is.
-
If expressing your character results in no significant changes from the gameworld does that expression have value?
In the video of Harvey Smith talking about where he went wrong with IW, the example he uses is that in DX you've got a swimming aug, a swimming tool, and a swimming skill, but in IW all that functionality is combined into one mod. He realised later though that people like having more choices because it gives them more options in defining their character, they like making their JC a "swimming guy" even if those extra choices don't really amount to much in the game.
Like playing dressup in Fallout 3, people like that sort of stuff even if it has no real effect in the game.
But it will not be a stepping stone to the genre as the first one was either.
Sadly DX wasn't really a stepping stone to anything either, it never started an "immersive sim" craze. Even Thief had a greater impact on the gaming world, what with Splinter Cell completely ripping off it's shadow stealth system.
I can give some examples: 1) You can build up a barricade in case of Manderlay attacking you, or any other NPC for that matter. 2) You can use them to hide from guards or bots. 3) You can build a bridge out of 'stupid stuff' in order to cross a passage that was too wide before.
I was thinking more what could you do with those particular items pictured that you couldn't do with the veritable forest of crates that appears to be in the sequel. Previews have already mentioned using items in the sequel as cover, like the photocopier in the Detroit police station. What was unique about flags and plants and pots and vases? The answer is nothing. If DX features 3 types of interactive plant but HR only features 1, nothing of value will be lost.
As Raithe mentions they are improving on aspects of the original, they just don't agree with you on the importance of being able to pick up everything you come across.
DX had little significant reactivity to player choice.
Yeah, it was really more like Thief, which had a completely linear story. The missions themselves gave you enough freedom to complete your objectives as you see fit.

I was joking about the trashcans on the tables. :/
I never thought otherwise.
Also, I saved Paul the first time around, never realising it was even possible that he could die.
-
Did you play Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear or Raven Shield ?
I was a fan of the first two back in the day, but once I discovered SWAT 3 I couldn't go back.
-
Well at least one person loves it already
Unless it doesn't let me pick up chairs, then it can go **** itself.
-
I used to like putting trashcans on the tables in DX1.
You're in luck:
Best Game Ever: Confirmed.
Also the alternative paths are too obvious, destroying everything that made DX great in the first place.
Someone at the official forums made this just for people like you:
In her second playthrough, how is the hole in the fence behind a bunch of boxes in that room an obvious path?
Thanks to consoles, the areas are still just too small.
What are you basing this on? The small part of the level we saw in that video seemed pretty roomy to me.
I think people forget that the larger levels like Liberty Island featured a lot of empty space.
There's no pushing the limit, no new ideas or complexity, no great ambition.
Man, you people are trying way too hard to be negative. You're talking about new ideas when complaining that part of this new game isn't the same as the old game.
Btw, in DX1 it was completely up for the player to decide which object had any real use or not, not the designer.
Explain what use these items had:
Besides doing stupid stuff like that I mean.
Would DXHR really be a better game if we could manipulate each individual book in Sarif's office?
Despite people complaining about obvious highlighting, you seemed to have missed all the cardboard boxes in that video. Don't worry, DXHR will still meet your carrying-stuff-around needs. Cardboard boxes, crates, barrels and trash cans at the very least. Maybe you'll even be able to pick up chairs. Picking up chairs was my favourite part of Deus Ex.

El Oh El. You respond with an insult to a question asking about sexuality, and I'm at fault for not realising your insult had nothing to do with sexuality. You ask for an apology in the same post you call me a half-wit. You're a fool.
