  1. Inspired Defenses (+1) and Stoic Steel (up tp +3) stacks with everything, so does Stalker's armor bonus. Not moving (Stoic Steel) and the nature of Stalker (+1 AR and +5 defenses) fit very well. Pick Strengthened Bond for +15 defenses against all AoE spells) and Superior Camouflage (+8 vs. ranged). Pick Goldpact for unlimited (non-stacking) +4 AR with Gilded Enmity (kind of unlimited with Sworn Rival). Get Patinated Plate and enchant with Bronze Juggernaut (+2 AR). Get Kapana Taga and echant with Lone Champion (+1 AR). Get Akola's Apex Ward and enchant with Hunter's Vigor (+1 AR) and Hide and Tooth (+5% melee dmg, +3 deflection against melee) and activate the modal (-50% dmg from ranged and reflex attacks). Then there are several items with damage reduction (-x% damage taken). Shifting Chroma from that whirling Hel-Stone can add +1 AR as well (random though). And of course pick stuff that raises your defenses in general to produce lots of misses and grazes. This is one of the combos with the highest passive (or let's say endlessly sustainable) damage reduction I can think of atm:

    Only AR:

    Plate: 9

    Legendary: +4

Stalker: +1 (don't move too far away from pet)

Insp. Def: +1 (drops shortly when different dmg type incoming)

Stoic Steel: +3 (standing still, needs buildup)

    Hunter's Vigor: +1

    Lone Champion: +1

    Gilded Enmity: +4

    Bronze Juggernaut: +2 (melee only)

    Shifting Chrome: +1 (occasionally)

    --------------------------------------------------

    together: 27 max, 19 min

You can still switch to a dual weapon setup and smack stuff pretty good with all the high ACC Full Attacks you have (FoD, Wounding Shot - also with Full Attacks the Juggernaut is not that bad) and switch back to Apex Ward as soon as you get in trouble, instantly stopping you (modals now stay active when switching back and forth) and granting you Stoic Steel etc. again.

There are two pets that grant +1 to freeze or +1 to burn AR and several items that will give you increased AR to a single damage type as well which will stack with the general AR I summed up above.

Yeah very solid stuff. One could use squids grasp also for immunity to flanked, since flanked gives u -1 armor it will sort have the same effect as Kapana :)

  2. Platinated plate + thick skin + blunting belt or Ngatis depending on encounter + squids grasp + paladin is the bulkiest I can think of. Is there a shield that increases armor for the wearer?

Also spreading Dazed will go a long way (-4 pen for enemies)

I also have no experience or knowledge about DLC gear yet.

  3. Estoc modal also provides +2 PEN (at -15 Deflection, which Fighters can freely tank). I never turn it off. Devoted another +2. And Estoc has the highest Penetration rating available. Base 10, 14 at Legendary. With the above bonuses at Legendary that's 18 before Crits (+50% PEN) and Crippling Strike (+2 PEN). You can also pick Penetrating Strike (+4 PEN), but it's not necessary IMO. I prefer the Mule Kick Interrupt and Accuracy bonus.

I don't know what is the highest pierce Armor Rating on an enemy. Steel Golems have 18 on PotD, so with legendary gear you penetrate their armors just using passives. Don't know if something is higher. If you play in a party, you can have your Priest buff you with Tenacious for another +2 PEN (so 20 before active abilities and Crits) in case you meet such extreme AR monsters. So far I have no issues penetrating enemies casting Woodskin or Stoneskin either.

I think the only issue is enemies who are outright Immune to Pierce damage. Advanced/Elite skeletons come to mind, maybe some Blights. Not sure if there's something else? Edit: So, Bog Lurkers. Thank you, Dorftek.

As I wrote above just switch to a blunt for those enemies - a morningstar or quarterstaff will work nicely. You'll eat the -10 Accuracy penalty, but it's not the end of the world - and it's not like you'll meet those enemies often.

Agree, only one thing tho, Pen modals don't stack with Tenacious or Potion of piercing strikes or any other active pen increase. But food works

  4. Going devoted on a peirce only weapon and playing potd?

Um......yeah not to sure about that one. Its the most resisted weapon type.

Each for there own but i wouldnt do it. Warhamers are good for devoted

Warhammer prof gives +2 pen plus u get crush and pierce

While I agree that it's a better idea to go devoted with a dual dmg type weapon as far as I know only skellies and bog lurkers are immune to pierce and then u can either use monastic unarmed training or roll with the acc malus vs those particular enemies it's no biggie. Devoted with estoc get so much pen that even high pierce resist enemies can be dealt with, as with the 17 pen spear from kraken area

  5.

Yeah wizard is insanely strong, vs pretty much everything and they are strong from lvl 1 and all the way to 20. Priests aren't good the first 16 lvls ;P

Uh not really. You need to level up a bit to unlock more spells. Early game Wizards mostly autoattack.

As do all, a wizard can use two chillfogs at PL1, two chillfogs and a combusting wounds next PL and it just gets stronger and stronger

  6. Thank you all. Despite really wanting to try out priest nukes I have a very hard time playing a main character that isn't interesting for the first half of the game. So wizard it is. I think I'll just take a different approach with Durance than I normally would have.

    Thanks,

    Mock

In all honesty tho they have few good ones at lower lvls as well, berath get touch of rot at pl1, good spell but hard to land because it targets fortitude. Shining beacon is another great spell they get fairly early

  7.

Why's One Stands Alone a trap? It just makes it so you require a third engaged enemy to be Flanked, right? I can't see anything that seems worth replacing it with, except maybe Combat Focus (Can you stack sources of Concentration?)

Yeah additional enemy to get flanked and it "only" offers +20% IIRC damage, which is minor in the grand scheme of things (might, legendary, Rogue + SF bonus, etc.)

And infinite red hand bonus if u need more dmg :p

  8.

You can make pretty solid ai script for wizard just break it down to several blocks like

-(deleterious alacrity)/ infuse with vital -> standard buffs

-if threatened: mirror image/llengraths displaced / other soft defensives

-if threatened and bloodied-> iron skinned time/ safeguards

-if engaged in melee by multiple thugs->piercing sigil time

-miscilenous stuff/ second wind potions and items

-nuke stuff-> minolettas missile salvo, meteors and wilting wind

sure single target is maybe technically not as high as some classes (marauder) but the marauder has to be pretty optimized because minolettas does so much damage. As long as wiz can stay alive he can nuke stuff faster than anyone else.

But can it down neriscyrlas on potd upscaled solo?
Some guy in a chat on twitch told me he needed only two casts of Concelhauts Crushing doom to down the dragon. Now if there's any truth to it I don't know. I have little experience with a wizard BUT combusting wounds is just brokenly OP, after a few tics with wall of flame it's doing 52dmg per second

Add a beam to it as well and it just gets insane

  9. 0.5 per point is truly bad. Most players who play this game who don't look into these kind of things might think ""scales with metaphysics", nice I'll put it on my *insert class* because she has 8 metaphysics how awesome" not realising they would only get a measly 4% lash :p

1% per point wouldn't be OP especially not for the majority of players
