I wonder if it's just that 'they suck' at making interesting characters, or that with ES there are simply too many to give any real attention to. Hence why I wonder what they can do with a smaller game like Fallout with MUCH fewer NPCs.

I don't think the Elder Scrolls games really lend themselves to having amazing characters or dialogue. They've always been about big, sprawling worlds to explore and do many, many (usually mediocre, sometimes stellar) quests over a irregular size of a game world. And they've always been about unlinearity of doing anything at any time, while not being unlinear in quests and choices within (as I've seen complaints regarding this). That's why I think it will be interesting to see what they do with Fallout besides the technical aspects of the game. I think they could pull of something special if they did a small, focused game (I believe that's how they described it in some interview) that is unlinear in its dialogue, quests, and main quest. And I wonder if that is how they look at it as well; Elder Scrolls being a large, jumbled (but good) game, while being unlinear in exploration. And Fallout being a small, tight, and focused game (quality dialogue with a much, much, much smaller amount of NPCs, quests etc.), while being unlinear in many more ways (paths in quests and dialogue etc.) And if they do look at it that way, I'm guessing for the designers that it must be a breath of fresh air being able to alternate between ES and FO since they are more or less opposites. In any case, it should be interesting.

I killed him out of pity after I accepted his quest. Got into the dark brotherhood for it .

They make travelling on foot faster for someone who can't/doesn't want to use Fast Travel to get somewhere. Practical usefulness n' such.

Anyone see the Game Informer (I think?) scans of this game? Looked/sounded ****ing amazing! Can't wait.

Haven't changed it since before 10.

Finally got the game. Dialogue seems fine, not seeming dull or especially boring compared to most CRPGs as described here. Sometimes great in some areas. To my surprise, I'm enjoying the scaling immensly. When I heard about it here and other places, I figured I would hate it by the way it's described. But I've found that I love being able to go anywhere and tackle any quest I want and not have to worry about my level, or if I'm strong enough, and I'd still have a challenge on my hands (and even being able to adjust that challenge in the difficulty slider to my preference, no less). I like the style much better than the gimping of travel and advancement because you haven't finished x# of small quests, killing x# of petty monsters.

Bull****. Half-Life 2 got a 9.2 from gamespot, and it's considered to be an AAA title by most critics. And Oblivion got a 9.6 on another system.

So we see the XBox bias of the reviewer ... <_< <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is he wrong though ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why? To get the same level of graphics on a PC as the X-box 360 you'd need to buy a card that costs a little less than an X-box 360 itself. While the PA strips are occasionally funny, their actual analysis on games is generally piss poor.

Looks pretty badass. I still need to get the first game, damnit. WHOO, GREATEST HITS!

The engine isn't from Valve, it's a heavily modified Gamebyro(sp?). edit: And I've seen some people here say that the combat has no tactics whatsoever involved, especially with kaftan who says it's simply going back and forth with blocking and bashing. I was wondering if anyone used stealth, alchemy (poisons especially), and spells while fighting? Or are you simply playing a mindless brute which would be nothing but blocking and bashing?

You can buy/steal horses that are faster/stronger. Shadowstrider explained it earlier in this thread. edit:

I'm not metadigital, if that's another user. But in all seriousness, I really want a coherent impression on the Dark Brotherhood guild questline. An impression of the whole guild (as in, completing the whole thing and becoming guild master or whatever before you give any impressions), not just "im one quest into it, this guys face looks funny lawl, npcs are repeating their lines to eachother roflawl, the fps is low, blue blobs wtf?" or "HOLY MOTHER ****, IT'S AWESOME". Since that's basically the only impressions I get from various forums. It would be very cool for a complete view on that quest line, though not necessarily from you.

The satire was in one post. And there's no argument, just an explanation for someone with no sense of irony.

You were the one who brought the subject matter to the table, not I. If you don't like it then there is a nice little function of these forums called "Ignore." If you don't like my posts or my typoes then I suggest using it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hades, Hades. Let's explain this step by step. 1. Your hyperbole reaction to a small glimpse of writing. 2. My satire of your hyperbole on a small thing like a glaring typo, ironically while you're critisizing writing. 3. You not getting the joke and getting defensive. 4. Me explaining the satire. 5. The satire flies over your head again, sadly. Getting more defensive. 6. A small tease. 7. Getting even more defensive, me now afraid you'll spit out the pacifier and get ready to box me. Now if you want to continue this, pm me.

A bit touchy, are we?

Reminds me a bit o' you. Concluding that Bethesda has crap writers because of a couple lines of text (in the NPC-NPC random convos, where I imagine the least amount of attention got in terms of writing) in a game as massive as an ES game is jumping the gun a bit. Now if you played through the main quest and finished a guild storyline or two and concluded that the writing is ****, then I can understand and I might share your "omg, crapnessess writering" attitude.

Really! Find some writiers who know how to writie!

Try the dark brotherhood guild too, or the thief or mage guild.
