  1. The early/late PF is tricky, both look the same. And probably neither is good for games. (cool artwork for book or some static graphic)

The answear is: for isometric good is "not too many lines" since you will never see them anyway. It is up to preferences if you go for "natural" look (more like poe) or more stylish like Torchlight or D:OS.

It would be fun to see something which is different. ;-) We have constant supply of classic fantasy. (Path of Exile, Divinity, Witcher, Skyrim, PoE, Tyranny fair enought).

Cyberpunk is ok i suppose (shadowrun, Deus Ex) SciFi is maybe (SWTOR is not really it, and Andromeda is nobody knows). Apocalypse is fair (Wasteland, Fallout)

It would be cool to have not yoru standard fantasy setting rpg. SteamPunk. Horror. Oriental. World Of Darkness. Weird.

Tides of Numerea is honorable mention in originality.

Tyranny has fair gimmick of being evil, and having multipath plotl.

Witcher, ME, Jade Empire, Deus Ex are special since have challenging action component.

There is potencial in pirate setting.

There is Alchemic Fantasy like Eberon setting.

SciFi Fantasy, where Magic is technology fallen from stars.

  2. Looking for your prefered setup and if you take Durance as your 5th companion, you already have everything, so can go with whatever Main Character.

I personally prefer Pallegina or Kana as main tank, and Eder as bruiser. Fighter have some second chance abilities, and much better consistent weapon DPS. Chanter/Paladins have more significant aura dps.

    As for MC:

If prefer more dps then Rogue for weapons, or Cipher for more casting. (it is more about style)

If prefer more sturdy character then Paladin or Chanter. Both classes makes good sword and shield if that is your keg of beer. Maybe Chanter is more fun since you get summon and paralyze earlier. From the other side everyone with figurine could summon, so that is not game changer. And for both classes essencial is aura which both get at the same time.

Also it is better to not think too much about class choice as long as it sounds cool, and fits from roleplay reasons.

  3. It would be very interesting to see what could be done with Pathfinder transition into crpg. How well pnp playerbase transfer to gamers, or how gamers get interested in new setting. I see the appeal in some less popular or less generic settings.

There is this Shadowrun company, in their time they ware pumping 1 story a year, and it has some popularity. So there may be market in pnp inspired game.

  4.

I remember that random encounters tended to happen a lot, and were always the same in BG II. Good first time, but boring after. I prefer the scenarized encounters.

About resting in dungeon, I agree it's odd to sleep just a few meters away of dangerous monsters that attack you on sight. There's should be a chance of night attack on your camp on such occasions. after all, in reality, it's always when you sleep that pests raid your skin without mercy.

Uh yea, I remember having sex with Aerie right outside Firkraag's arena in BGII. That was really... awkward.

That was f...ing close to death.

Games need to simplify some things in the name of general fun experience.

  5. Random Stronghold fights ware some of most annoying things in PoE, being in middle of some cool exploration and get message to guard some settlements, could kick out of tempo.

Everything devs do need to have purpose, camp fights cant be very challenging since we are not prepared, and cant be very story driven since they are random, so there is a challenge to give them more than just existence.

  6. I think there is market, there is not enought in the niche for:

    • Mystery or Horror crpg, maybe some form of detective stories in cthullu mythos, or vampire setting. Rather modern times, however steam punk could be fun to. Maybe more adventure gengre rather than party ombat oriented.
    • SciFi isometric but with action gameplay, where we shot real time like in Magica or Torchlight. Having action gameplay does not block rpg layer in any form. I think that action style could work well with gunplay.

The problem with Vampires is that Bloodlines was so good, and not delivering mix of stealth, action, FPS could be a miss.

I like idea of Patchfinder. Not much epxperience with pnp version of it, but i looked fine. System where each class got something which is good start.

Not sure what is the difference in Patchfinder art style 1 and 2, both are same!

Having mixed feelings with Bioware. Dont liked ME3 (previous 2 was cool) and had problems with DA after 1st. SWTOR is ok but its combat mechanic is bad, combat is neither dynamic nor strategic, and it consumes a lot of time. Generally MMO has its limits, that everything must last forver, which dont fit quality game time.

  7. At some point taking game to next step is making another game. Tyranny seems to be example of that.

    But idea is:

Oriental, East Asia setting. Something like Jade Empire. Probably with some gimmick where we can program our kata combat moves or something.

And of course isometric sci-fi action shoter in space with rpg parts.

Modern times supernatural, vampires, ghost, cthullu fatang, some more adventure gameplay (Broken Sword serries) more puzzle solving.

It is not PoE2, but there need to be something else than poe2 to refresh imagination.

    • "Normal" difficulty is normal for ppl without previous experience with infinity-like cRPG. If you played anything from BG to tabletop DnD you can start on hard.
    • PoE is forgiving. You can retrain your companions, make a new ones, So there is not much to worry about.

My general advice is: Ignore internet. On first run just go with whatever sounds good for you. Seek help only when you are stuck. On second walkthough read guides to discover that you did everything wrong. Have fun.

If you really need guides: https://forums.obsidian.net/forum/91-pillars-of-eternity-characters-builds-strategies-the-unity-engine-spoiler-warning/

+ search like "ranger build" "Boss x fight" that should cover your needs.

  8. I think that some classes (Rogue, Fighters) have innate bonuses to dmg, so for them 2W are better, max dmg is always on square, if we have dmg next step is speed.
    (and then crits)

If we dont have inherit dmg boost, 2h is better to deal with dr.

It is less about 2h vs 2w but 2h vs 2xSabers. But PoE is not tham MiniMax oriented to nerf sabers or something.

Increasing 2h bonus to 20% is fair.

I like the idea of making Overbearing talent (2h only). Stunning shots are fun on Ranger. And it make sense for very big hammer to sometimes prone enemies. It also support accuracy build which makes it different.

Note: I found lack of 1h style in this discussion disturbing. Maybe there should be more feats for 1h Silvio Forells. Feats mixing different feauters (Parrying, speed, strenght, precision)

  9.

    As for 4th companion:

You will get Kana (Chanter) early enought, outside walls of Cuad Nua, no need to do anything inside, he will be humming at walls.

Try him out, maybe will be useful for something.

The last thing I did was recruit him before closing the game. I haven't really messed around with the chanter class so I'm excited to try it out. Any tips?

You can retrain in tavern anybody PC or companion, so if you make a mistake at build a hand full of gold will fix you.

Chanters song work no matter recovery (armour) so you can strap in the heaviest you have and still sing a song.

From same reason you may go for all heavy shield and tanky talents, but it could be more fun to wield a rusty greatweapon.

  10. Favorite classes:

    • Cipher: mix of sword and magic which i like, interesting lore (psionic jedi, fair enought), can bring CC which helps party comp. Somehow fresh. Active.
    • Ranger: i like archers, have mechanic of combining doggy and arrow target or lining up victims

Druid is close, since it is like sturdy wizard, but shapeshift never worked for me. Spells are more fun and you dont need shapeshift. Chanter is cool in design, but it is derped Priest so no.

I dont have unliked classes since why should i? The main reason to dislike class is that it makes game harder for no reason. Like brings very little to party, or does same as some other, but worse.

    Reasons to like class:

    • Personal favorite, like ranged or sword and magic
    • Powerful enought
    • Being integrated with the world somehow
    • Different builds possible (replay) many many talents
    • Appealing companion from that class
    • Active, clickable abilities or pick your enemy wise. (random spawn summons would suck)
    • Being less used in games. Rogues are everywhere but do you have Shadowpuncher?
    • Party floating text and comments are fun and silly

There could be some pace of how open are the companions directly after we meet, maybe they need a time to know us and gain some trust

I would like if companion loyality quest unlocked some special ability for them. So there will be mechanical reason to keep them ovet henchman.

Companions could have attitude to PC depending how much PC alligment matches their own. Maybe they dont like us that much, but still stay in party for greater goal. Companions could be unhappy with what we did.

Attitude of companions could evolve over time after interaction with PC, we could push them more into some direction, make them more stoic or more angry road.

There is a potencial of using companions skills or origin in discussion as source of information. Aloth sometimes provide Lore i think. Also Durance have his moment in Fire Temple.

It would be nice to be able to tell Durance that i literally hate him (death to all religious fanatics), but keep him only since i need Priest in the party

I am fine with romance, it dont need to be graphical QTE (engine does not support it well), some characters are just flirty and may see PC or other party member as attractive. Life happens.

  11. DA:O is fine. (sequels less)

But DA is unrefined, since it still sticks to tactical comat with all this TPP. It should go more into action based (like Witcher). There is a niche for tactical isometric (i think so).

PoE should change, evolve but in natural way, based on what worked to what degree.

OE should probably experiment with new IP, like Tyranny, and check out different mechanic in smaller games.

  12. PoE isnt that serious. Barters about pet pevee was funny. Or some comments on locations (Durance other staf and such). Havent missied the humour. Maybe one or two funny companions would be better. (like Minsc or Jan Jansen) but i dont miss them. However Hilvaris or Durance arent that serious. Eder also had his country jokes.

    Good luck with next iteration.

  13. 8/10 for me, got what i expected.

No class character progression is a modern trend in games. And i think it is better. OE also seems to experiment with that in Tyranny so we will see how it works. Good thing is that already in PoE Wizard and Barbaian could work on similar stats, and both wear heavy armour.

Not many companions are romancable in PoE. Maybe eder if we are girl. Hilvaris could agree for quickie in furry form. Devil.. it will be hard but maybe. But for rest  romancing would be out of character.

Resolve is not that needed. You could be very charismatic with just Lore. Also many dialogue options are determined by alligment. Int, Dex, Might, Per also often happen as dialogue requirments.

    • 6pack

    • Eder
    • #allstatsmatter
    • general game design
    • general lenght and size
    • party ai
    • WM quality of life
    • Adventure oriented over loot oriented (combat is good in moderation)(world driven story is also ok if you have $$$ for that)

I like the game. And it got better with WM updates. With some of common complaints i am like "why do you even care?". I want more of the same but different.

I am also totally fine with Obsidian doing many games, and different games. Like Torch-a-like in Space, with 4p MP, no pause action, but still with RPG layer, did i said GUNs (and techno powers)? And arcade spacecraft doge fight. Since why not.

  14. Some of the OP suggestions are really bad for me. Like really bad. I would probably dislike such game. A lot of talk about minimax, and having too much gold, and power, power unlimited power.

I just want more of the same but a bit different. ;-)

I really like 6 pack. Since that allows you to get a basics like front+DPS+support+Control and still have 2 spots to mess around.

Using all the improvments the PoE got in WM1&2 like party AI. This time we can get them from the beginning.

I dont mind companions having some things preset, since they are their own beings even if that means some optimalization flaw. I would like to see some companion specific unlocks. (after completing companion loyality quest) Companions could be in some way more powerful than minimax dummy but in own way and style.

Dont get this Amazon thing. And dont want to Origin anything.

Dont mind Endless Dungeon, some people like it others dont, you dont have to. Endless dungeon has value in first run. When i am fed up with story quests i just want to kill and kill and kill. A lot of battles untill to test my party. Untill i have enought fighting and can come back to storymode.

Dragons and Bounties are golden, keep them up. Keeping the pirate theme that makes Krakens and Sea serpents

    From good stuff:

I want to have a ship and a good crew. Could be small ship. And became rogue trader on Valian Republic. Yarrr

The shipping things could be actual quest. Like move goods from port to port.

The last barbarian city was a bit stretch out in PoE1. The standard western storyline is:

    • Tutorial
    • Adventures (this part is long)
    • Twist
    • Preparation
    • Climax
    • Resolution

Dont mess with it, it worked for Jesus it will work for you.

There could be like 5 major houses or guilds (powers) and we can ally some of them, and they fight each other, and us at some point. We could also make them work together for alliances and remove other from game. Such stuff.

It would be fun if we could manipulate our companions and their attirude to us, like make them more mad, bloodthirsty or belovent. (not everything for everyone) More text...Maybe companions could learn some unique tricks, so there will be good reason to keep them over henchmen.

Balance of Caster vs Noncaster, none whirwind strike can mach summon demon horde IX or meteor swarm fo doom. If you achieve perfect balance of it, you would be the first. Also there seems to be too many spells which are very similar to each other. (bigger numbers and shape) Maybe we can have less but more important.

It comes to good balance of at will, per encounter, and per rest abiliies. Some of Wizzard spells are very strong. (like grease) some of rest talents are meh.

Old friends. Some of companions could come as questgivers or companions for new character.

Epic loot you need to do something fore (like collect all pieces or atune Soulbound).

99% of corpse loot will be sold, can a game sell it for me? Like regular corpse could have only gold, gems, ingredients and consumables. Usable weapon/armour is rare. Only named mobs will drop usable weapons, also chest will have usable items. Lets say after cutting, smashing and burning Xuirp armour is not suitable for Barbarian.

Better support for multiclass, or class-less system (skill trees or something) "make your own class".

Maybe we can have a feat pickable by everyone "Fire acolyte" which allow to cast one spell from short list of fire spells. So we can teach our paladin more fire. Could be picked many times for more uses or of different keyworld.

More interesting Godlike. Having more literally Godlike powers/talent.

    • Stats being combo of body form and blessing
    • Unique quest for our godmother
    • racial talents to exeed our powers like SLA "breath fire" or something like that

Player content creator. Do your own quest. Share with others.

It may be good to start new IP being everything which PoE is not:

    • furure, apocalyptic and scifi (or both)
    • action driven
    • small party
    • loot
    • guns, techn and psionic
    • MP
    • ME2 quality story and quest
    • Like Torchlight in space with plot since why not

  15. You may try defensive Druid. That is more active character Chanter... some people dont like it, and companion chanter is good enought.

Unless you want to prove something 1st walkthough on hard is fine, and provide good experience for seasoned player.

Dont read soulstories from golden characters, it is just kickstarter tribute.

Maybe game is not just for You. Witcher, or Divinity Original Sin or Shadowrun Dragonfall could be another bet. Or something completly on action side like Mass Effect 2 or Warframe.

  16. There could be too much balance, especially with nerfs. Since that could lead to design abilities to not be too good/special. As a result none ability feels special, and everything is just  +10% dps. Contex is important, and thinking "how good the class as whole is" "can the class be build in several ways and be top viable?" and "can party be build in many ways, or some classes are almost obligatory?"

Generally with PoE is not that bad. Game definetly improved since release. It is even better if your prefered platform allows backtracking patches.

  17. I do not care much about order of things, just do whatever i have mood for. Some patterns:

    - Clean one area (gilden vale, Defiance, WM, Dyrwood) as i am there, less travel time, less resting.

    - Focus on quests, either side or main over wild or Paths, More xp, and i like builds be more flesh out.

    - Sometimes altering pattern if i want something specific. Like get Devil, named loot reward.

    - Endless Paths are here mostly for trash loot, becoming xuirp spears manufacturer. Skaen temple is even better in that regard.
