    It's more RTT than RTS, (Commandos, Close Combat - style) I believe. But it's just taxonomy :p

    There is several aproaches:

    • Big scale like in Wargame European Escalation
    • Horde RTS (like Starcraft)
    • Tactical (company of heroes)

    Not saying which one is best. But maybe tactical could fit, enought depth to make things interesting, but not overhelming scale.

    Fighters boring: Im not saying op is not right, but that was harsh bro!

     

    Thought: spellcaster has 9levels * 10 spells to choose (pick 5 to learn) + still can use weapons + other abilities (like shapeshift)

    That is insane amount of versality. And it is hard to overcome such amount of option.

    Martial has problem that they are not hero, their weapons are.

     

    Inspiration from HEMA, MOBA, Path of Exile (diablo-styles), games focused on swordplay is an option.

    In PoE1 there was a thing of per encounter low level spells. And spamming 5 in row grease is always good. Insane power, and it dont even scratch Wizz resources. Fun times.

    We can also assume that Fighters will take cool weapons, learn scrolls, get 2-3 powers and it feel cool enought.

    Sometimes it is not about perfect balance, but feeling cool.

     

    It wasnt that bad. I kept Sagani and Eder, so martial are not total gimps breaking fun.

     

    Some ideas:

    • awesome killing animation, or animation in general. Look cool.
    • stances (agressive, defending, controling, light, hard)
    • Learning some of weapon perks as our personal feat (like Barbarian every attack can be prowing)
    • Katas/Combos - sequence of hits which are effective
    • common mechanic - the idea of each class having some power source working more or less the same has potencial
    • Auras - actually pernament auras was good thing for martials
    • Spell like attacks - throwing sword is as effective as lightbolt, cataclysm jump could be as good firestorm, sword swept could be our flamefan, Scorpion chain always cool.
    • Refreshing abilities - even if poe runs on per encounter/per rest abilities there could be some at will which refresh after a while. Some small abilities to just spam.
    • So Much Better - dedicated warrior could swing a sword much better, insane better, so much better it is not fair.
    • Free stuff - fighting classes can sometimes get free stuff, like free ability or extra feat to choose.

    Direct comparison: Fighter Clear Out 2/rest. Wizzard SLicker 4/encounter (or more). And killer: Wizards actually can cast something else if slicken is not aproriete. Ha ha ha. Fun times.

    It could be just coincidence, however 1:1mln chance happens 9/10 times.

    I have hopes for Ydwen.

    Maybe she is related to legendary hero. That is some start for backstory. In Eora you can share not only blood but also soul.

    Or she was named after great sain as good omen, but girl gone own path. Not sinner nor sain, but a bit of both and things blown up.

  4. I'm thinking that in an expansion, they'll probably upgrade sidekicks to companion status instead.

    From the other side, some NPC idea are just not good with full companion. Since the apeal is in simple concept well executed, and once we start adding destiny, tragic backstory it is overcomplicated.

     

    Will Rekk be good idea as full companion? i dont know.

     

    But there is always place for Dwarven Barbarian, could be /Druid. Not Boaring. 

  5. It is cool that PayPals and latebirds could add to the glorious 5m goal. I would however understand if OE do not answear this question till end of fig camp, you know, tactical reasons.

     

    The thing with the ship is that in poe1 there was stronghold, and then drama about stronghold being dump, or lack of features.

    So they may feel the need to polish ship and not have 100 topics: Ship is not enought yadayada.

  6. I kinda believe in changeling game. May it will not be as big as witcher 3 but doable.

    Power set is doable.

    You may have same map in two version one real second dreamworld. And we can jump from one to another.

    It will probably be better adventure platformer than action shooter.

    Since they are already adding sidekicks (if SG met.. but i don't see any reason why not?).. I would like that they give an option for players to "point buy" their attributes instead of devs hardcoding them? I'm not sure how attributes work this time. Are they the same as in Pillars1?

     

    That is good suggestion, "wrongly" set attributes create alot of drama and salt.

    If it could be somehow done, so adventures and mercenaries could have stat adjusted (but companions no) that would be great.

  8. I am not attached in any way to crafting, so let the OE do whatever they like and be done with it.

    I used receipes i have avaiable at the moment. It works ok. Not sure if that makes gameplay much better.

     

    It would be nice if i could turn unused traps into throwable bombs.

     

    It would be nice to have friendly blacksmith to forge for us custom armour with desired properties. Like Vampiric Boomstick of Anihilation or something.

     

    Crafting is good for leveling gear.

  9. Pals are ok.

    There could be more things related to Orders. Old one feats was insignificant and not flashy.

    There could be subclasses/kits one related to solo Pal the Champion, the other to army pal Commander.

    There could be Pal order dedicating to killing monsters (including undead) but that is just fanservice.

    Immolation is hot but also comes late, there could be more gradually power curve.

  10. OE might as well add even more sidekicks. Sample ideas:

     

    Bad Luck Skaen - Skaen priest for who everything gone wrong, very disappointed in humanity in general, and hopeless. Always salty.  Just want to survive. Also punch in the face some pomponous nobles.

     

    Real Charmer - Valian republics Rogue/CHanter. Street thief and tavern bard, also... terrific womennizer. Probably running away from some angry husband. Could be romance interest for female watcher, but that would be 1 time quick time event, after which all Deadfire will hear the song about watcher assets.

     

    Vithrack Spy - Vithrack (monster race) cipher, interested in earthlings as something more than delicious cousine. Traveling to learn more, like Kana but with more chitin. It is also possible that he is a spy preparing intel before final Vithrack invasion. You may never know.

     

    Big Bad Wolf - Druid/Barbarian who cant really control his shapeshift or rage, so just swap randomly during combat. Cursed after doing something horrible. There is a rumour that only true love of stockholme syndrome captive could free him. But killing the Beast could also work. Pick one.

     

    Monster Hunter - Wayfinder Palladin who lost faith in human sense of justice and honour. And never knows which side is tight. So he travels among frontline colonist outpost and slays monsters for the coin. Like non humanoid monster. Every world needs the witchers.

     

    Souleater - Prime class duelist (warrior cipher) who is said to be best in the Deadfire. Probably will try to challenge Watcher on duel. Bad thing is that he swallows the souls of defeted enemies. And consumes their fighting style. making him more and more powerful. And also absorvs their memories. And personality. Basicly he is mad and lost.

     

    Bottle Swinger - Dwarven Barbarian Monk, always in good mood, and a bit drunk. Keeps bottomless mug which can heal him in exchange to precision (hic). Very creative when it comes to throwing bombs and insults upon enemies. Knows some good warstories which may be totally made up, or belong to someone else (like 1000 years old legend). We can confront him, and soulwalk into his past memories, and remind about his real glory. He will stop drinking then.

     

    Return of the Devil - Devil of Caroc returns, and works as part time asassin. It is best to work at somethin you love. Like murder. Or she just want to collect enought gold to settle down, start own workshop, hire some sidekicks. Dark version: Kill local kingpin and take his place. Rule underworld with iron fist and bad puns.

     

    Babe dont hurt me - teen firegodlike, wild mage or shaman, with attached fire spirit elemental devaour of the worlds. Inmature (you dont say) and childlish. Claustrophobic, cant take orphan closure. Also easy to anger and literally explode in fire. Can vie Watcher as parent figure.

    Questline: She can travel with us, and we can leave her as acolyte in some wicked mage or druid. Oddball as her.

     

    Maybe there are some better funny idea, which are not really worth companion slot, but are somehow interesting?

  11. Warewolf VG good to see, there is not enought Mystery games (in comparison to Zombies) so every single counts.

    Cyanide... Styx was okeyish. The studio is the Mystery.

     

    Changeling game, or anything related to dreamworld... that would be magic. I am just sceptical who could do that.

    • Each companion requires change in relationship tracker in old ones. more and more workload.
    • "Adventurer" fits better. No sidekick. No companion. No mercenary. No henchmen. No acolyte (that is cool title thou)
    • Sagani wasnt well developed, Calisca has fanclub, but Durance is annoying.
    • Somebody need to be normal so others could be special. There is always place for Dwarven barbarian. (try to denay)
    • Rekk is creative idea. Dwarf was asked for. Pale Elf Animancer is PoE uniq.
    • Some ideas are better if not over exposed. Good idea destroyed by adding too much. Or being just ok and not worthy companion status.
    • There are more adventurer ideas potencially good, like Vithrack cipher or Xuirp shaman. Or adventurer who is more on evil a-hole side.
    • Adventurers will have some related quest (not exacly personal), some barters, probably dialogues, backstory. Not bad in comparison to BG2.
    • There are still 7/8 big fat companions, and as many you like hires. It is addition not substitute.

    EDIT: Far stretchgoal suggestion: 2nd 4pack with Adventurers, but this time somehow designed in cooperation with backers (smart way). Just ideas cant break Eora (no Eothas avatar).

    Maybe Aloth and Isemyr set soem shedule of who runs the body each day, so the other soul can chill. Aloth seeks bromance, and Isemyr lady love. They leave notes with pointers and letter of complains... that may be a plot of some movie, i forgot the name.

     

    Hmm, sounds like you are either speaking of "Your Name", "The Prestige", or "Being John Malkovich"

     

    "Your name" that was movie i thought about.

    That is also an idea for quest. Maybe somewhere in Fulvano voyage. Travel back in time to change the future. Edgy enought.

    Romance: In past reality we meet that perfect girl/boy, but we cant take them to watcher time, so village is safed, but they had lost beloved one. lol

    I think we can have some serious problem with names.

    Sidekick - suggest some form of aprentice…

     

    Apprentice. Hmm, I’d like that for a change. Not quite sure what Watcher could teach them, though.

     

     

    That is the deal, that no npc is really Watcher sidekick. More like companions, fellow adventurers, or just mercs.

     

    That is idea of having Apprentice, there is potencial in such relation: father-daugher, student-master, dark lord-adept... that has some depth.

     

    Also Watcher could potencially have own armies, assasins*, spies, traders, whores... that would be a different game. Not saying better/worse but different indeed.

    *This probably could fit better Tyranny sequel. Since that strategy elements could be less attractive for classic crpg funs.
