  1. I just want to say that this issue was fixed by starting a new game. Thankfully, I wasn't too far into the story. If anyone else has this issue, I suggest starting a new game.
  2. I disagree that the game's setting negates any possibility of a romance. I actually think that horrendous atmospheres produce some of the most interesting romance material. However, you pointed out that the devs didn't want to do it, and if that's the case, I'm glad they didn't. I wouldn't want the devs to feel pressured into doing something their heart isn't fully vested in, especially where story is concerned. Either way, the game's world and story are fantastic. I don't feel negatively impacted by the current depth of romance included in the game, and that's just fine with me. I suppose I'm indifferent on the subject as it applies to this particular title. *By horrendous atmospheres, I don't mean to imply that they did a horrendous job on the atmosphere. I mean an atmosphere that evokes a particular sense of horror.
  3. That's a gross oversimplification of my point. I take it you are referring to mass effect with that one. Yes, you are correct, that talk option does appear when there is nothing left to say at that point. I assume you'd rather they put in hours and hours of filler conversation instead? I'll take the "just checking in" option over that any day. The urgency does not stem from any one dialogue option, that would be absurd. Rather, it stems from a process of conversation in which a character becomes very important to you, so important that you want them to survive whatever conflict you are in more than yourself. TBH I would not be able to recognize "Good Romance" from "Bad Romance" because to me all of the romances in these games are offensively simplistic...I have so many Celibate Characters that one day they'll build a monastery and mock me with the name. But hey, dunno, maybe I'm the one with the problem here, I just feel that most game devs don't really get human interaction at that level, which on the other hand is a cliche in itself I would not indulge in, or that I should see them as One night stands and that's it. I understand that people ask for them as optional, but even then they'll either do it half assedly like in NWN2 or they'll put effort into it like, well, nobody has to this point, and then it will be taking resources from improving other areas. The way I see it at least. That is a perfectly valid point to make, and to be honest, I agree that if it does detract from the more important aspects of the game, it shouldn't be included at all. I have experienced enough romance scenarios in games, however, to believe that the two are not mutually exclusive.
  4. Gods I'm glad there is none, nor that it would have mattered since I create my parties but after being forced with the bloody pedo Elven hobo in NWN2 I really think we dodged a bullet here. And besides "dialogue minigame" with "****scene at the end"...well you said we shouldn't say anything about people who like it so I'll leave at that...tbh I don't thinkl any game can really do that kind of relationships right, not even eroges. I don't think that we should be citing single instances of bad romance representations as reasons to never do it again in any scenario. I actually really liked the romance in Mass Effect (no, not the sex scenes, I mean the actual growing of relationships between characters. Some romantic, some not) and in Knights of the Old Republic. Those kinds of interactions really do deepen the roleplaying aspect of the game, and for many, they add a sense of urgency to the story. I feel more connected to that "special someone" and genuinely want them to survive. That doesn't necessitate sex in any way or any kind of campy storyline. Someone said at the beginning that it's fine as long as it isn't required to get the best story experience out of the game, I agree 100% with that notion. I just don't understand how something that is, and should be completely optional ruffles some people's skirts so much (pun very much intended.) It reminds me of the criticism EQ2 had because you could play as a humanoid rat. To this notion, I offer the same retort, just opt out of it. I think enough people like romance that it could be included in a way that doesn't require it as a game or story mechanic. Maybe it's because I'm a homo, but those are things that really brighten the gameplay for me. :/
  5. I'm not sure if this is in the game already, but I haven't been able to locate it for the life of me. I was wondering if it was possible to adjust the timer for the fading of popup messages when you examine certain spots with the magnifying glass. I'm a bit slow when it comes to reading messages like that (I actually have a disorder that prevents me from reading small paragraphs of text quickly, so yea) and it would be awesome if there was a slider to handle how long those messages stay up. Again, if this is already a feature in the game, or I am somehow able to do it via a config file, please disregard this and throw me a quick comment on how. If, however, there isn't something like this in the game already, I think it would be a nice and simple addition. I appreciate your time and consideration.
  6. Could have saved us a lot of trouble just saying that you were a transphobe instead of dressing it up in that whole freedom of speech cloak. Please avoid calling people "transphobe" for reacting negatively to "kill all men". Are you going to keep pretending or are you going to admit that this is what it is? That's not hatred of all transsexuals. It's hatred of a single transsexual, which is very warranted. Hating a gay person does not make you homophobic, unless you hate all gay people. Not entirely correct, but you're coming from the right place. Hating a gay person BECAUSE he is gay is homophobic. Hating a gay person or a group of gay people because they are jerks or some other valid reason is not. Likewise, hating some douche for being a hateful brat who JUST HAPPENS TO BE trans is not transphobic.
  7. There is no need to continue this "discussion" as there isn't a discussion being had. All that's left is people arguing in circles around each other. Nothing will get accomplished, no one will change their minds. In all honesty, I think the whole "hands off" approach from Obsidian as far as the forums are concerned is a very bad idea. It may seem nice, and freedom rules, etc, but in practice it just turns what should be a professional, helpful community portal into /r/obsidiansux.
  8. How is it logical to respond to the supposed notion that Obsidian is giving into angry mob demands by making angry mob demands of your own? Isn't that just as, if not worse than what the "SJW" people are doing? "I'm going to undermine everything Obsidian does financially." Really? That's what you are going to do? As a gay man myself, I had no issue with the joke in question, or any of the others I have seen. I'm not easily offended and I really don't care what some gamer nerd thinks about my lifestyle. Even if they did "give in" to the "demands," how exactly does that spell out the end of Obsidian (and from what some of you are suggesting, THE WORLD ITSELF?) Seriously, with all these new threads popping up, you guys are making more of an issue out of it than the idiots who took issue in the first place. Responding to a minority of "Having a female/gay/black character that isn't 100% against the stereotype is pure evil" touters by insulting the entire LGBT community (seriously, even when it's a feminist or racial issue, you guys always point to LGBT :/ ) any different?
  9. Why do you [super awesome internet dudes who definitely dont live with their mothers and who are super courageous making big statements behind the anonymity of a computer] people always have to reference the LGBT people as being the source of your problems? I don't think everyone else thinks about being gay as much as you do...
  10. Okay, so there a massive amount of stupid on this thread, from both sides. I was going to try and quote, but there really was just too much so I'll try to just go point by point the best I can. Firstly, the "I haven't experienced any bugs" posts are wantonly absurd. Only in video games will you find a response like that. It roughly translates to " I have no issues, therefore you shouldn't either." Really? Come on. Moving on, comparing this game to other games in an attempt to justify what seems to be an onslaught of game breaking bugs (crashes are game breaking bugs, they literally break the game) is faulty logic on an elementary level. Just because X, Y or Z game had bugs at launch does not justify someone else doing it. That isn't to say this game is an any way less than fantastic, from a world building standpoint, the game is wonderful. The story is gripping and pulls you in right away, the combat is fun and intuitive, and it successfully grabs hold of the very mechanics that made the crpgs of old so wonderful. On a fundamental level, this game hit the mark. By fundamental, I mean the content of this game that won't be altered in the coming weeks. You can't really fix a bad story with a patch, you can try, but that rarely happens. I'm thankful that the issues with this game are technological and temporary. I am also confident that the developers genuinely want this game to succeed beyond a sales figure. They want us to have fun with their product, and that motive will lead them to fix the issues we are having right now. That does not, however, lessen the (justifiable) frustration that people are having with the game. The OP is making a perfectly valid complaint, and to shame him/her for voicing that complaint just because you somehow feel insulted that your favorite developer is getting even the slightest hint of negative criticism is really nothing more than petulant blubbering. To sum up. OP: Hang in there, things will get better.
  11. I haven't included a saved game with this as there isn't any one point in the game where this issue occurs, it happens constantly. The issue is that whenever I try to equip a weapon while in the inventory screen, or switch characters while in the inventory screen I have to sit through about a 15 second wait. This issue was happening to me even before the 1.03 patch, so I doubt it's something that was caused recently. When trying to level up my characters (by clicking on the + button at the top left corner of the character's portrait) the game goes through the same pause for about 30 seconds for each character I try. I'm not sure if this is something that is a problem on my end, but I know that this particular freeze (when leveling up) did NOT occur before the 1.03 patch. I looked through the forum and through the current bugs list and it wasn't on there, so hopefully it's something easy for me to fix.
