  1. What if someone manages to remake BG using PoE's beatiful engine in say, 10 years? How magnificient that would be... I wouldn't mind playing anything else for the rest of my life.
  2. After a long dilemma, I choose to play a cipher as my first character, mostly because they seemed the most interesting lorewise, and also because they are the closest to a fighter/mage archetype. Now I know they are supposed to be glass cannons, but this guy is squishier than a leaf. I cringe when I look at his health/endurance bars (I tried more CON but it doesn't add much). I went for a MIG/DEX/RES build for damage and deflection and gave him heavy armor, but he still dies as soon as enemies change agro from Eder. Does it get better?
  3. Estocs are very strong, but Greatswords are more flexible. Two damage types (Slash/Pierce), get an alternate crushing weapon for you second slot and you're set. Plus Tidefall is a monster
  4. @cavemandiary and @ceranai, mind sharing your monk builds? @cavemandiary, which one did you enjoy more?
  5. At this point I have no doubt that Barbarians are good, but atm I'm more inclined to play a Monk due to RP reasons. I'd have no interest in fighting unarmed, tough. I'm thinking about going 2H or one handed sword. Can this work?
  6. After spending a lot of time struggling on what to play as the main character, I finally decided that I'm going for either a barbarian or monk because I don't want to overlap any NPC, and I don't like rogues. I want to build some sort of striker, probably wielding a 2hander. Are mons any good with 2h weapons? What stats are important for these two? I'll be playing on Hard
  7. Which is just another one of those really odd, counter-intuitive things in PoE. Monk with a (non-fist) weapon? Monk with a shield? Monk with... heavy armour? The RPG Monk was primaly based on the buddhist shaolin monks, so that's why we commonly portray them as warriors who fight barehanded and unprotected. The mere thought of monks employing weapons and heavy armor may sound alien, buy like salo already said, there is also a few monastic orders of armed monks in our history, like the Knights Templar, the Teutonic knight monks and the Sohei warriors of feudal Japan. I love the fact that the monk description in PoE embraces multiple creative origins other then "kung fu wacko". Geralt from the Witcher series is a good example of fiction armed monk that could very well fit into the world of PoE. Witchers are an elite caste of warrior-monks taken at a young age to an ancient fortress and experimented on to give them superhuman abilities. Those who survive the rigorous trials are extensively trained in a multitude of skills in preparation for defending Humans from beasts. Geralt is a master of swordmanship, but he's also known as being extremely skilled in hand-to-hand combat, so that was probably part of his Witcher training. His fighting style transcends mere physical combat, and moves into the more intellectual domain that the Monks tend to dwell in. It's said in the books that he flows through his moves, almost as though he’s dancing. It’s a power that speaks of mastery of his art, as well as mastery of his own body. TDLR Witchers could very well be armed monks in PoE. The only aspect that the Monk class doesn't cover is the minor spellcasting, but witchers should rely mostly on their weapons anyway so it's not a big deal.
  8. Hi, guys! I'm a big fan of the Witcher novels and games, and I'd like to make my first PoE character based loosely on Geralt of Rivia, the most badass protagonist of all times! "Born an orphan in the cold lands of the Wind that Wends, Gwynbleidd was still a child when he was taken by a secretive order of monster hunters to become one of them. After finishing his rigorous training, he embarked into the Eastern Reach to become a slayer of unnatural beasts for hire." He will be wielding longswords and greatswords only. Single style, no double weapon shananigans! Also no shield. Maybe throwing daggers and crossbows as an alternative to ranged weapons, not sure if these are available in the game though. I'm intent of making him sort of mobile stealthy fighter. Armor will be restricted to light/medium only. What are your thoughts on a class combination that resembles a witcher's skillset? I'm leaning towards a Fighter with Hunter Culture, but Cipher are also interesting due to their spells that quite resemble the witchers minor sorcery. I'm not sure if they could be good brawlers, tough. I'm prioritizing RP but I'd also like to build a strong character as I'll be playing on Hard difficulty.
