  1. I would say the SNES system I had as a kid sold me on the RPG genre. Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger and Legend of Mana were some of my favorite games. In the mid 90's to early 00's I played on a few MUDs and played DOS games like King's Quest and Lucas Arts games (those were more of the adventure genre, though). When I found Planescape: Torment in 2001 I fell utterly in love with it. Got into the Final Fantasy series starting at #7 when the PS1 came out; stuck with them because they had the cool RPGs that Nintendo didn't. I feel like I've been a fan of the genre pretty much my entire life. 'Tis an awesome feeling.
  2. I'm a non-backer as I literally just found out about this game on the 16th of this month. I will definitely be buying a copy. And a copy of Torment when it comes out. I'm also telling my gamer and D&D friends about this and posting to Facebook and Twitter. Once this game comes out, I'll be posting a lot of information about it on Facebook to try and get my other gaming friends interested in it. If I download it on Steam, you betcha I'll be posting a lot of positive information about this game to the community there, too. I agree with Havelok, I think there will definitely be a "Long Tail" sales forecast for this game once the people that are already in this community buy the game and spread the word about it with screenshots, videos, streams and reviews. Positive player reviews go a long way in getting people interested in buying a game.
  3. I ran into Torment: Tides of Numenara yesterday when I discovered this game, too. I only found their Kickstarter page and didn't see any info on there under updates as to it's release so I bookmarked it and moved on and found this game. The reason I even found these two games is because I was thinking of buying BG:EE on Steam or GoG. I played the original two back in the early 2000's after PS:T, but never got past more than probably 10 or 15 hours of gameplay for whatever reason. I've been really wanting to sink my teeth into an in-depth story and character-driven RPG and realized BG was probably going to be my best bet. And since I never got my personal badge of honor for having completed at least one run-through with BG, I went looking for it. I had no idea companies were working on these kind of projects. I'm over-thrilled! That feeling when you discover the game you've been waiting for your entire life... I wish I could re-live the day the Project Eternity Kickstarter was announced. Glad you discovered this game. We need to spread the word. I told a friend about this today and he thinks it looks really cool. He said this would be something his wife might really be interested in, too, and she's a hard one to find the right game for. So hopefully, that's at least one other person! (posted to twitter & facebook, too)
  4. I know this has kind of been answered here, but which would you recommend to download from: Steam or GoG? Speaking on DRM terms, as long as you have access to your Steam account, wouldn't that be basically the same thing as having that game be DRM free? You would still be able reinstall the game from Steam if your hard drive crashed and you had to replace it, right? The reason I love DRM free so much is because of hardware failures like that (from joyous multiple experiences). The only issue I have with GoG is that I have to call my bank after a make a purchase through them to unlock my bank account and let the payment go through. Since they are outside the US, my bank automatically flags it as a fraudulent purchase.
  5. Egads. Sorry about the white text in my previous post. I copy/pasted that directly from Google Docs since I started writing it at work last night. I didn't realize it would copy/paste the color of the background, too. I ran into Torment: Tides of Numenara yesterday when I discovered this game, too. 6. I literally heard about this game for the first time yesterday! I'm extremely late to the party but it looks like I made it just in time. What luck, right? Planescape:Torment is my absolute favorite game of all time and my heart melted as my head exploded when I saw that this game has been developed. After cleaning up the mess I made and an emergency overnight heart transplant, I quickly absorbed as much of the lore as I could so I could start thinking about my first character. This is what really grabs me to start: --- Name: Inkka Race: Hearth Orlan Culture: The White that Wends? (I just like that section's starting gear the best) Class: Cipher Background: Explorer --- Raised by a single father who was a lore-seeking explorer, Inkka and he spent their years together traveling while treasure and knowledge hunting. He taught her the ways of nomadic survival in some of the harshest regions of Eora and the importance of preserving information for either scholarly or profitable reasons. As an opportunist, his moral compass helped shape her own into learning how to live in-the-moment while having little concern for the consequences of her actions. Her father saw in her early on the kind of talent and abilities she possessed to be able to manipulate souls and minds and encouraged it's development. He used these skills to their benefit whenever dealing or trading with other races. Recently, due to illness, her father passed away and entrusted his life's work to her. With pride, she took up his mantle and continues to seek out new places and new information to record in the tome he had carried around ever since he started his own adventuring. Utilizing the reputation of her race to avoid unnecessary conflicts, living the nomadic lifestyle as a lone female has never been an issue for her. Generally good-willed and sympathetic toward others, when the chips fall she will choose the course of action that will benefit herself the most. Due to long stretches of having to go without "niceties" for the sake of survival during her childhood, Inkka has developed the propensity for hedonism. Whenever she sees something “shiny” she must indulge. Young, resilient and precocious, Inkka does not yet realize the full extent of her talents and abilities. Set upon the wandering path of discovery, though, she may just end up one day finding enlightenment … or at the very least, the finest eats and drinks the land has to offer. --- At least this is the basic idea so far. Subject to change, of course, after learning more about the lore. Apologies if I've already strayed from acceptable ideas that would fit within the game, even though I know most of this is just a character motivation and behavior model for my own reference.
