  1. Wait until it's out before you do that. Here's what I know on the topic: 1. There will be a .EXE installer for the mod, which will likely include an updater/patcher. Because of this, the "Standard" release of the mod will not work on X-Box. 2. There will also be a distribution of just the mod files, with manual install instructions. As of now, there's no reason this version wouldn't be compatible with X-Box, but you would need a modded X-Box which may or may not be illegal to possess in your country of residence, and would certainly void your warranty. It's being provided without the .EXE for those who have overwrites they want to merge, and for those who have other trouble with the automatic installation. X-Box won't be supported, but the mod should work on it.
  2. That depends entirely on your speaker setup. Stereo separation is most noticable when you're wearing headphones, but if the speakers are tuned properly to your position, they can be 6" apart and you can still hear the stereo separation. (my laptop speakers, for example. When I'm in front of the computer, I can hear the stereo separation properly. If I move just 1' to the left, I can't hear it any more). The problem is that all recordings are different. Just because my speakers are tuned perfectly for my copy of Led Zeppelin IV doesn't mean they're going to be properly tuned for Brothers in Arms. Most music falls within a certain range, so you can do a decent setup that'll catch 90% of it, but if the music is badly mixed, then it's going to sound weird with a "standard" speaker setup: either too much or too little stereo separation.

  4. Because its been said many times and just let them save themselves some time. Remember: the less questions you ask, the faster it'll get done. (probably not but oh well) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In a sense... there's also the notion that the fewer times people ask questions that've been answered a million times already, the less likely they are to shrug their shoulders, say "screw it", and take a vacation....
  5. AFAIK, the projected completion date is still "when it's done". Bear in mind that they still haven't announced their actress yet, and once that's done there's going to be at least some work needed before it's ready for production. I'm also impressed with the progress they're making.
  6. I dunno where that idea came from. I'm not working on the project, but as I understand it, they are very paranoid about stepping on copyright, and don't want to be shut down. I sincerely doubt that they'd do anything to jeopardize the project like that. It's one thing if the music is already there with the game's distribution. It's another thing entirely if they need to rerecord and recut music from other sources.

I know that the password issue has been resolved, but I figured I should point out that I use Firefox exclusively, largely because Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, has not released a version of Internet Exploder for Linux. There's a somewhat backhanded explanation in the Known Issues thread, but basically, I have absolutely no sympathy for Microsoft's lack of standards in IE, and don't even bother to test if something doesn't work in IE any more. If it doesn't, then it's Microsoft's fault for not following W3C standards.... So yes... it did get tested in Firefox. In fact, most themes on the site only look "as intended" in Firefox, because of a glitch in the way that IE handles alpha blending in transparent PNGs.

I've changed the default to bluetabs. the reason the whatisreal theme flickers is because of all the alpha blending.... if you don't have a machine that's smart enough to use hardware acceleration for it, it'll use software which is wholly dependant on your system specs. hadn't thought that through when I set it the default.

  10. I was referring to the first time Mira faces Hanharr... you know, when she's level 6 and he's equal level to the PC? If you don't level her up so that she can have maximum levels as a jedi, then that fight can be hard.... So you run circles around the arena, and stop every now and then to fire at him. Couple that with a mandalorian melee shield, a few medpacks, and the ability to use an item from inventory without it taking up a combat action, and the fight isn't as difficult. It's still not easy, though. Actually, the hardest fight I had in the game was against one of the mandalorians in the battle circle at their camp. Of course, that was as a Sentinel/Watchman, with JdNoa's crazy rebalance mod that raises the enemies' levels, and at the same time reduces the attack bonus for that class to 3/4. I had enough damage reduction against bludgeoning and regen that he couldn't make a dent against me, but his defense was so high that I basically only hit him on crits. That fight too half an hour
  11. It isn't just you. The hardest part is the Mira/Hanharr fight as a lightsider, but I find that I can win that by kiting Hanharr. (run around the room, pausing every now and then to shoot him once and then turn and run again.
  12. Cycle through the different AI modes to find one you like. I generally find that Jedi Support and Ranged/Grenadier are a lot more useful than "Aggressive". There's also a Stationary mode where they won't attack until you attack.
  13. Your choices of class would matter more if OB had kept the BAB progression between classes. Instead, they're all +1/level. (Sentinel was 3/4 in K1, and Consular was 1/2). Because of it, there's not really any need to play Guardian/Weapon master unless you intend to pick a bunch of feats. Both Consular and Sentinel have enough feats to maximize one (or maybe two) of the combat special attacks. Really, I almost always use flurry. Since I can maximize that and still have loads of feats to spare with either class, it falls to my force use. If I plan on using a *lot* of force powers, I'll go Consular. Usually, however, I'll go Sentinel, because the only force discipline I ever use is Force Focus, and all three classes get it. By contrast, I use Ataru fairly frequently, as well as Niman from time to time, and Consular doesn't get either. So I normally go Sentinel. As for prestige class, I really like the Jedi Master/Sith Lord abilities to inspire others, as well as the fact that your companions can get light/dark mastery only with those classes. Sometimes I'll go with those classes, but I find that the sneak attack/stealth ability of the Watchman is also incrediby useful, especially when combined with the "crowd control" abilities, Stasis and Insanity, among others. It's really a coin toss, but given that the endgame is mostly solo, I usually go with Watchman/Assassin. So the short answer: Sentinel/Watchman or Sentinel/Assassin.
  14. an INT of 14 will give you 5 skill points per level. When I play sentinel, I go with 16 INT, and ignore stealth and persuade. When you switch to weapon master, btw, you won't get as many skill points per level, and will have to choose some skills to ignore (or not focus as much). Go with Sentinel/Watchman if you want the skills all the way through. My usual Sentinel/Watchman build starts at: 8 STR 16 DEX 16 CON 16 INT 8 WIS 8 CHA Level 4 and 8, take +1 CON for the implants. Every level thereafter, +DEX to maximize attack bonus (finesse), and defense. Having a DEX bonus of +16 (DEX of 42) by the end of the game is doable with stuff that drops in game, making robes the armour of choice by a long shot. Final AC of 55 is within reason for a lightsider. One thing to keep in mind is that you don't get finesse (sabres) for free in K2, so you'll need to take that feat if you want a dex-based build.
  15. It's the ganja!! I had a bug on Telos where no matter what time i get on the swoop racing track, where even if i get a time beating the track records, its impossible to win the race. Its very frustrating!! :angry: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've seen that bug, but it only happens to me when I don't ask what the time to beat is before racing. If I ask what the time to beat is, I can win the race. YMMV, but it's worth trying. Telos is actually one of the easiest tracks, I find. The problem with Onderon is that you have to run a near-perfect race (hitting every booster and missing every obstacle) in order to beat the record time. I've done it, but it usually takes a few practice runs before I can win it when I get to that point. All of the other tracks have a little give in terms of the time limit, and you can still beat them even when you miss a few of the boosters.
  16. Actually, you're both off. From the WIP page itself: Some of the modules listed at 0% are just a single, simple change. A lot of the ones listed at 100% are just a single, simple change. Your mistake is in weighing them all equally, because they should not have equal weight, and because I know for a fact that they do not average out in the end. Some of those modules in particular (the ones involving the KV stuff) are going to be an awful lot more work than the rest, owing largely to the recording and sound editing that needs to be done. They still haven't announced who's going to be doing the recording yet, so draw your own conclusions. It'll be done when it's done, and not before.

When people refer you to the FAQ, it's because you're asking something that's been asked a million times already, and the answer is either obvious or already in the FAQ. Do everyone a favour, and read the FAQ before you start posting questions.... often you'll get your answer faster, and you won't come off looking like a tool for posting a question that's already been answered.   18. yay for reading the manual... and for knowing how the d20 system works.... My favourite build for K2 is the skill monkey. 16 INT Sentinel, skill points in all the ones that matter. (no points in persuade or stealth), and when you reach level 15, go for the watchman. That way, you can level all of the skills.... there's an obscene amount of experience available in the game from defusing mines and opening locked doors..... Coupled with a "defensive" build (high dex, finesse, robes), can make for a truly overpowered build. force enlightenment + double sabre + maxed flurry = besting Sion in 1 round, even on a dex-based build. K1 was harder, but mainly only because you only got to level 20. If they'd thought it through, they would have buffed up the baddies in K2 more than they did Malak, but in the end the stats were about the same...
  19. It depends on what you intend to do. If you're going for pure damage output, then double sabre is *far* more effective: 1. The base damage is higher than single-bladed sabres. 2. It's balanced. No need to worry about finding a short sabre to minimize the offhand damage penalty. 3. The "damage" upgrades are easy enough to find or make, but the "damage" crystals are not. In any given game, you're unlikely to see more than one crystal that does more than +1d8 (and even that is uncommon), so it just makes sense to use a single sabre and get the same crystal effect on both blades. There's only one thing that would change this: which special attack you use. If you use flurry or power attack, then the sabre with the greater base damage will do more damage. If you use critical strike, then the sabre with the greater critical range (short sabre) would be best. A pair of short sabres with crystals that have the "keen" property, coupled with maxxed Critical Strike is a *really* potent combonation that far outweighs the difference in base damage from the smaller sabres: you crit on 10-20 (I think, could be 12-20), and your crits have a chance to stun your enemy. For comparison, in such a situation a double-bladed sabre would crit on either 15-20 or 17-20 (again, need to check the numbers but it isn't that important :D ). That said, I usually go for flurry/Master Speed combonation for 5 attacks/round and try to maximize the unmodified damage output. When you're hitting for 50-70, 5 times per round, crits become less important.... On the other hand, if you don't care much about your damage output and just want stats/bonuses, then dual sabres all the way: you can use 4 crystals instead of just 2.
  20. That feat exists because without it, your PC would only have about 6-10 hitpoints at the start of the game. In other words, you could die in a single shot. The feat buffs up the PC a little so that you can fight most of the level solo. Remember that the game system is designed for party play and it's not until higher levels where you can stand on your own.

As for it not working, you can always use Bram's BT client. You remember Bram Cohen? The guy who created BT? http://bittorrent.com/ Will this be available as part of the final mod when it is done. I'm just afraid if I don't download it now, I won't be able to download it later if no seeds or whatever are available. (I'm fairly uninformed about bittorrent.) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It'll be an optional extension. There's a short version of the logo which doesn't have the food chain clip that'll be distrubted with the actual mod. (The video is 3.5mb and doesn't add to the gameplay, though it is amusing.) That is much poopiness. AFAIK, there aren't currently any hosts with the video in non-BT format. You need to install BitTorrent, to begin with. Dash suggests Arctic, I prefer Bram's BT client, available from http://bittorrent.com/. Once it's installed, all you need to do is go to a download site with a Torrent, and download the torrent. Then, open the torrent with BitTorrent, and it'll ask you where you want to save the file. Please have the courtesy to leave your client open and seed for at least a little while after you've completed the download. There isn't a seeder on the server itself, which means that the clients turn off, it hurts everybody else. BitTorrent works by sharing bandwidth between different clients. I download the first 1mb from a server, and while I'm downloading the next 1mb, somebody can download the first 1mb from me, which they can then share with somebody else, and so forth. BitTorrent works best when people are willing to upload files as well as download, and since it's not an illegal distribution, you don't need to worry about getting sued. Ph33r the Gizka. The whole sequence seems to have some framerate issues though. Slow comp for the one who compiled it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The AVI from which the BIK was made had an original framerate of 30fps, and that is part of the problems you're seeing. (the Mandalorian's legs, for example, are the best place to see it). The other thing to keep in mind is that the animations are sometimes blocky and incomplete, even at high framerates. This video was not created on the same computer that did the video editing. The later video editing was done on an AthlonXP 2200+ w/ 1024MB of PC3200 and a 256MB/DDR Radeon 9600 Ultra video card. The later video editing, however, doesn't depend on hardware for performance, since it can render the video at 1fpm if it was really needed. (actually, it was closer to 3.5 seconds per frame for lossless compression )
  22. No. The members themselves don't know when it's going to be released, because at this point they're not even 100% sure they have a complete list of the zones that need modification. Check the WIP page to see what they're working on now. Even assuming that they don't have to add any more modules to the worklist, there's no way to know how long those will take, because they're working in their free time.
