I'd beg to differ. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are probably free to differ. However, I would argue that the ver yfact that one may escape sleep deprivation by going to sleep, but you can't escape tropical fevers so easily makes it worse. And for you relevance monkeys, I think this relates by the fact that we are talking about situations where meta-consciousnes is vital, because your senses are lying to you.

Ditto. As a matter of fact I've never seen the Ai part with more than 3 digits. Moreover, on teh arre occcasions that the Ai does get so smurphed as to be that far behind i don't see how they would have acquired the cash. Shome mishtake, shurely?

Right. I've downloaded just about every single one of these mods now. Any final advice before I reduce the Hammer of Bastards to radioactive goo by installing them? How will I get rid of any ones that are useless? Also, why are all the NPCs so super-cheesy? It stadns to reason that anyone modding the game is likely to be good enough that they don't need to power game. I'd rather have some NPCs who are actually a challenge to include but reward players by being interesting.

I've had typhoid, paratyphoid, japanese encephalitis, and some non-specific stuff, and I'd say they knock sleep deprivation into a ****ed hat.

I have just spent an hour trawling through pages of search engine bumf about Heavy Gear 2 compatibility with win XP. Specifically, my copy works just fine up until I reach the end of mission 4 (like every other monkey it seems), whereupon the game simply exits. I wondered if any of you know of the game, and a solution, or can understand better than me the existing data on a workaround. Heavy Gear 2 is a good game, from what I can see of it. I'd like to be able to play it.

Meta: I'm not sure dissonance really is what you are experiencing when you stand up too quickly. Dissonance is more like the feeling you get when you try to reconcile self-interest with having stayed up for 48 hours playing MMORPGs.
-
Meta: I was seconding your caution, rather than trying to upbraid you. Our friend here might have been tempted to quote you, as you said, and I was saying another reason why they should not try. Having been coaught out in this fashion me'self. Metacognition, does it use resources otherwise necessary for executing actions?

Yes.... we will make rich fineries to sell to people. I shall make slippers from Elminster's nostrils. Mmm... snug. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Human skin armour? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nah. I reckon it would just be 20% cold resistance or somesuch. Speaking of the human skin armour, I gave it to Montaron. He looked so cute in pink!

What if you keep the random other guy in both versions, but in one you want to get there first to kill him, and in the other you want to warn him? (w00t)

As you well know, mate. I have never played an MMO. I thought it was well known by all, and was part of the fun of being so scathing. I apologise to anyone who thought I was well informed. Nevertheless, points about opportunity costs stand.

Well, I was referring more to his ability to become invincible for as long as it was convenient for plot reasons, disregarding regular game mechanics. But yeah, that too. " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> *grits teeth* Yes that would really bug me. Major BG2 spoiler: I much perfered the Morrowind tactic of letting you kill anyone you liked, but letting you know you had scuppered the main plotline. You could go on playing if you liked, but could not complete the main story.

Groovy. I am not sure I agree with you in the SoA context, but not so much I'd make a big deal of it. Totally disagree in general terms though. A villain doesn't necessarily have to connect to the 'saga' or life story of the character. I wouldn't want to sit down at a design session with that definition as my objective. Far too manga for my liking. Not to mention the fact that as a player I want the life story to be my own bloody choice! I'm not sure how sarevok really advances the saga. Need some elucidation. Glad to be back on solid ground, however.

They would also have been in classical Greek. You should be careful when bluffing in classical Greek since it construction is not the same as most everyday modern languages. Or so I'm told. Metacognition is certainly a good thing. If that is what you mean. Links to succesful completion, and expertise in many tasks. However, anecdotally I can say it can also be a hindrance. Sometimes the zen ideal of acting without thinking can be superior.

Don't dodge the question. I'm not saying in general. This is a game forum. I'm saying what makes a good game villain. I gave you my definiton in one sentence. So step up and pitch yours! And quit double posting, cornsarnit.

Haven't played KoToR, to my lasting shame. I'd buy an expansion where I hunted Drizzt across the face of the Realms with a pack of dogs, and then deconstructed his floppy-haired drow posterior on a molecular level. NOTE: unreasoning hatred like this is the product of trying to see other people's views.

To satiate your curiosity. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right I just read the wiki link, and it tells me nothing. "The standard action story invariably begins by demonizing the villain

Bah. And I have been reading this whole damn thread. Every word. And am wondering if I should have bothered. Walsh definition of a good villain in one sentence: An individual who poses interesting obstacles in the path of your character, while inciting the urge to defeat them, and whose character and motivations are interesting in themselves. Lancer definition of a good villain IN ONE SENTENCE: ...

How many goram psychologists do we have on ths forum, anyway?

If it comes to a straight out evaluation fo the man who 80% thinks and 20% acts, and the man who 20% thinks and 80% acts, the latter man will generally be accorded more respect and will have a better class of regrets. In my opinion.

Hey Tiligua, it's not a spam fest. I'm saying there ARE alternatives to MMOs. And I'm enjoying one right now. I don't hold with folks who say 'go out and get a life' generally because they are fethwits, whose lives I couldn't envy if I tried. But there is a high opportunity cost to MMOs. The same investment of time could get you a very long way in other directions. *shrugs* But you do what you like.

In my screenshot, the diplomatic action was inititated by ME, and the only diplomatic option I can propose is a peace treaty. I cannot trade with countries that I am at war with. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is so straightforward we have to be sufering a misunderstanding. you can only trade once you agree to peace first. Can't you?

What makes you think we don't live with partial awareness because a fully aware perspective would tell you this was a good idea. Why try to agonise over every decision at a crawling speed, when you can pick a perspective and run with it? EDIT: nice question, though.
