Yes, there was a dedicated thread (too lazy to dig it up now) if you want to give a thumbs up to the author

Yep, those visuals look neat !

That's it? A couple weeks? We won't be doing anything this substantial for our solid UI. It could be a couple of weeks of programming to implement this.
Do it.
Erm, no !
I'd rather they take the time to fix the game instead.
You want a solid UI, good for you, but don't assume that everyone feels the same.

Question to all EU backers:
Are you sure you will have to pay customs tax (twice)?
I guess the question is, where will the products be shipped from?

This is really nice. It will be the end of all those endless UI debates. I guess a month after release we will see a UI design for every taste out there.
Yes, as much as i respect Grotesque's photoshop skills, I really find the solid UI bulky and unattractive.
Draggable, minimalist UI ftw !

Yes big thanks to all the bug hunters.
Especially Sensuki, I don't know how you had the patience to do that man. Hopefully you'll still have some energy left to play the full game on release
I was hoping to participate much more in the beta, but it turns out my laptop is not fast enough to give me an decent gaming experience. Hopefully I'll be able to afford a new one soon after release !

Why not just make the whole game 3d instead of these "hacks" to apply 3d effects to 2d environments? Was it faster/easier? I thought the whole point was to have heavy paintovers so that the backgrounds would look unique and organic, foregoing detail limits of 3d games.
Because then PoE would look like another D:OS
I've tried playing that game several times, but the 'cartoony' art keep throwing me off. Again, it's all personal taste, but PoE's graphics are much much more appealing to me.

To be fair, writing off the system used as 'impractical' does it a bit of injustice. [...]
Thanks for the explanation. It's really useful to have the developers' side of things.

Although It looks cool but I cant help to think after hearing about dynamic light, which took much of the devolopement time and has little use of gameplay elements.
I tend to agree with this as well.
I'll reserve my final verdict for after I've played the full game, but at the moment I can't help but think the lighting system has been a strategical mistake – given the available resources and development time.
But maybe it turns out to look completely amazeballs, in which case I'll happily admit I was wrong.

am not a huge fan o' klimt either, although 1/2 o' the girls we knew in University had a print o' "the kiss" on their dorm room wall. am more o' an impressionists or post impressionist fan, but tastes is subjective.
HA! Good Fun!

I also want to say that from what I've seen so far, I *really* like the environment in PoE.
Really looking forward to explore this world.

In PoE's case, yeah, DRM means you'll need constant connection to Steam server. Game's gonna be tied to your account and you'll need to be logged in to play. Steam requires it for most games anyway, with all those offline mode glitches people complain about.
FYI, as far as DRM goes, it's a thing that makes sure you're rightful owner (buyer) of a given software before launching it. Nowadays DRMs in videogames mostly (d)evolved into requiring to be constantly online, which makes people with limited internet connection (yes, they do exist) sad and/or angry. That's why hoooray to GOG!
OK then it's a no-brainer for me: go GOG !

I really like the theme music as well.
Congratulations to the composer.
The battle music however, is slowly starting to irritate me (I think it's inherent to the fact that it repeats so often).

The patch notes say
No, they no longer do - not even connected to it in factCapes no longer clip with armor on the character's model.
Sorry? Looks perfectly fine to me:
Hahaha obsidian please keep this!

In a computer game were you have to move your characters across a map – and by 'across' i mean often upwards or downwards (see most IWD maps for instance), vertical space becomes extremely valuable as well.
I think in the end it's a matter of personal taste. But either way I think I could get used to either options...
Trying to figure out how Facebook lite figures into IWD maps.
Haha I'm so sorry. Copy-Paste fail.
Here's the pic I wanted to link to:

The whole "Prefer to take away horizontal space because there's more of it!" argument that has been repeatedly brought up on the forums, is based on the fallacious assumption that both dimensions are equally valuable for the actual game world scene. They're not.

Externalizing more files will only do good for the game franchise IMO. As we all know, the Infinity Engine games still have a vibrant modding community 15 years + after release. The larger the modding community is - the more your game will continue to create revenue long after it's release.
Just bumping this thread because of this. I agree 100%.
I don't know how to mod myself, but if I like the full game I'm seriously considering getting into it.
-
FYI the game is running quite smoothly on 10.9.x
However, I'm going to get a new macbook from work imminently but I'm afraid it will come with yosemite pre-installed... I'll be really gutted if I can't play the game upon release and have to wait for a patch.
-
Yeah I would turn it off without hesitation.

Thanks for the reply Adam. Good to know it's all fixable before release!
Character models looked much better in the outdoors indeed.
Also in the second screenshot the party is in stealth,
Oops, my bad. I was quickly scrolling over the video to take one of two screens.
Should I take some more?
Here you go
Hopefully the Wurms are not in stealth mode either

Yeah it's done. I'll let you all know if I get a reply.

My old school solid UI mock-up for Pillars of Eternity

Hi Grotesque,
Just a quick Q: why is the log not as high as the inventory and spell bars in all your screens?
Is it just to show that the log height is adjustable? If yes think it would look better if all the bottom elements would be the same height...
Anyway... just my 2¢
