  1. Would you stop being an Obsidian fanboi and quit defending their sub-par-quality game?
  2. As somebody else put it ... LucasArts uses the Star Wars license as a reason to print money. I will NEVER AGAIN purchase another game with LucasArts name on the box. First Star Wars Fallacies and now this crap. Of course, Obsidian is partially to blame for agreeing to a release date FAR too aggressive. Some day publishers and developers will learn that success is based on quality and POLISH, not the name/type/style/license -- look at Bioware.
  3. up until this part, your post was valid if those were indeed things you ran across. once you showed your fanboism, your post lost credibility. not that im defending obsidian, but you do NOT know whether bioware could have done a better job given a 12 month development time table. you can assume, believe, wish, whatever. but you do not know for certain. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What he's talking about is the polish that Bioware puts into their games. I have played every single Bioware game at least 2 or 3 times through and every single game has been well-polished at RELEASE. Sure, there were patches to fix a few things but nothing like the problems we've seen in KotOR II.
  4. People have a right to voice their frustrations with the game HERE ... that's the POINT of this forum and this thread. If you don't like, then stop reading it! Dex ... I noticed those two "loose ends" with the cinematics as well. It looks like there might have been content pulled (or movies) relating to those. The GOTO thing just didn't make a ton of sense to me anyway.
  5. 8/10 isn't a very good rating IMHO. Go to Gamespot or IGN and compare 8.0 games to 9.0 and you'll see a BIG difference in quality.
  6. Well, I just finished the game ... the final end-movie has no sound. I even rebooted and reloaded to my final save and still no sound ... lovely. There were two other occassions in the game where certain movies in-game just would not play sound but all of the others worked fine ... but I guess this is what happens when a game isn't properly tested. I give the game 8/10 ... could have easily been a 9 or 9.5/10 if it didn't have all the massive technical problems.
  7. I have an XBOX, I just decided to wait for the PC version because I like higher resolution textures and better lighting/shadows. And for those that say "this game runs fine on my system!" ... have a look at this: http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/games/reviews/42011.shtml So, as you can see ... it's not just "us" and it's not just Radeon cards because i have a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB and I still have framerate problems.
  8. Actually I seriously doubt that the manual and packaging had anything to do with either Bioware or Obsidian. That's stuff that the publisher takes care of. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it IS something the publisher takes care of. thats not just speculation, thats a fact. the devs commented on it a while back when someone asked if the manual was going to be more indepth than kotor1 manual, saying that they had no clue and that it was lucasarts who took care of that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The first KotOR had a well-done manual and I believe it was spiral-bound like the other Bioware games ... coincidence? Not a chance
  9. That's another issue Tent - the manual. I was a bit dissapointed that they went the cheap route of including an XBOX-esque style manual. I was expecting the spiral bound counterpart w/ charts & tables ala K1 PC version. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Again, this is something that Bioware understands and they take no shortcuts. Bioware is the #1 RPG developer in the world because quality is a high priority.
  10. Considering OE has a working engine that only needed slight modifications to the interface ... 18 months is plenty of time. The game's developer should feel more responsibility for the overall quality of the product than the publisher. Bioware understands this concept and that is why they are the #1 RPG developer in the world. If you take shortcuts, it gets you nowhere -- you're definitely not going to see any "Game of the Year" nominations because of the technical shortcomings ... sorry but the truth hurts sometimes.
  11. Why are you defending OE so much? They did make a great game content-wise but they completely dropped the ball in terms of overall product quality. THEY ARE AT FAULT AS MUCH AS LUCASARTS! Ever heard the expression ... sh*t rolls downhill?
  12. Gameplay isn't the issue here, it's the technical difficulties. There are many instances in the game, for example, where entire dialogue sequences are skipped -- this looks like it has more to do with buggy code rather than end-user-specific configuration as I never saw this problem with the original game.
  13. Congratulations, now you're just plain ignorant. Don't make assumptions about another company's situation because you're in related field. Are you a game programmer? Is the company you work for brand new? Have you read the contract between LucasArts and Obsidian? Are you telepathic? They may or may not have an excuse, but guess what? YOU DON'T KNOW. Complain all you want, there's no fault in that, but stop making stupid statement like OE spent "all their time on the Xbox" or that they have "absolutely no excuse". My opinion on this matter: yeah, Obsidian screwed up, LucasArts wasn't the developer, so the presence of the bugs isn't their fault - but LA did gimp OE's development time by two months, so the lack of QA testing is. That's all I'll have to say in this thread, because I just realized I'm probably talking to a wall. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's for reply to my comment because you are the TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE of what I'm talking about!
  14. Uh-huh ... 2000 posts on the Obsidian forums ... another fanboi. If you cannot be objective, don't say anything at all. If you didn't see a single bug, it was because you are either a) lying, or b) not perceptive enough to notice the gaping problems.
  15. ATTN: Everyone defending Obsidian Entertainment There is absolutely no excuse for releasing a game before it was ready. Period. It is the developer's responsibility as much as the publisher to ensure the quality of a product. I am a software developer and you can be sure as sh!t that my deliverables are thoroughly tested before they ship, regardless of the deadline. NO EXCUSES!
  16. Don't get me wrong, the game content is very well done. There's a LOT of technical issues with the PC version and that is the problem. I don't think you're going to see very many people complaining about the story, etc.
  17. Unfortunately, that is not the case here. I have played every Bioware/Black Isle RPG since that company was formed so it's not just because I am clueless, etc. I am extremely thorough in my game-playing. Want examples of quest bugs? Here's one (SPOILER ALERT) ... on Dantooine, there's a bonus quest where you find two dead bodies in the sublevels of the Enclave ruins. The journal says to speak to the military commander in town or somebody in the salvage camps. If you rescue Vrook from the caves before you complete this quest, the dialogue options *never show up*. I have documented and proven it to myself. The problem is that the quest should just disappear from the journal if it cannot be completed at that point. I've come across at least three other side quests that get broken (cannot be completed) when the main plot quest advances.
  18. It's not the content that's a problem, it's the technical issues ... so hype has nothing to do with it. People just want a game that plays as stable and as well as the first.
  19. LOL ... bug free. Just because you don't see or notice something glaring doesn't mean it isn't there. Feats disappearing at sporadic durations after being trained, side quests being broken in that some cannot be completed if plot quests are finished first -- forever stuck in your quest journal. And yes, there are many bugs early-on with dialogue where entire dialogue sequences are skipped with Kreia ... some people just don't notice it because they aren't pay enough attention.
  20. i played the game 15 hours so far and i didnt experience any of the bugs you mentioned,no crash ,no bad framerqate no broken quests ,i cant comment on the rest since i have the german version and spelling is fine there .for the crashes ,bad fps : let me gues you have a ati card am i right? the ogl support from ati is really horible and gets worser and worser with each driver version ,so dont blame obsidian ,blame ati for not making proper ogl support in their drivers ! ati makes good hardware but their drivers especaly the ogl part is really ****ty. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> GeForce FX 5900
  21. Again, we're talking about the PC version of the game, not XBOX. It's pretty clear that the XBOX version received all of Obsidian's attention ... maybe in the future spare us from a sub-standard game and just focus on one platform? I shouldn't have to "wait for a patch" ... I paid a lot of money for the game and it should have been done right in the first place. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> um i was TALKING ABOUT THE PC KOTOR2 NOT xbox. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you beat the PC version 5x already you're either a) lying or b) haven't slept in 5 days.
  23. Just me and thousands of others you mean? The PC version is plagued with problems. Maybe you're just not observant enough to catch the problems. The game was not tested ... or the product was knowingly shipped with major problems.
  24. Actually, I saw a video interview on IGN with Obsidian where they said that PC version was finished at the exact same time as the XBOX version and that it was "nice" because it "gave them time to work on international version (languages)". So, nothing was ever pushed up. In fact, the XBOX version doesn't have the problems of the PC version so what's the deal? IT WASN'T TESTED. And yes, it is as much Obsidian's fault as it is LucasArts. If I were a START-UP COMPANY and this was my first major title, I wouldn't let LucasArts push me around and fail to provide the resources to properly test the game.
