Ganrich Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Hey, Did they ever add a feature that clearly explains what Power Levels do? Character creation is going to suck if we have to guess what multiclassing, nature godlike etc, means for all our abilities. Your PL increases the level of abilities you have access to and scales ability damage the higher your PL gets. It will also increase duration of buff/debuff abilities. So, because single class characters gain power level faster they get access to higher ability level abilities faster, and their abilities will hit harder, last longer, etc. So, remember, single class will access higher level abilities a level or so ahead of MC, and his abilities will hit harder. An MC will get access more slowly, but habe two resource pools for their abilities and have some potential for combos that single class will miss out on. It does need more explanation in CC, but the only places I can think of it being explained is in subclasses and races that have conditional PL changes. Death and Nature Godlike races, Lifegiver Druid, and Ascendant Cipher to name the ones I can think of that have such conditionals off the top of my head. I may have missed some.
Erik Dirk Posted May 6, 2018 Author Posted May 6, 2018 Thanks, I already knew what power level generally meant I was asking about specifics. I.e are monk fists viable for multi class, how much is spell damage affected etc. This could be a pretty big rookie mistake by obsidian. I can see rage quits when players realise that their nature godlike Wizard that specialises in summoned weapons effectively gets no bonus. First impressions are kinda important.
Mack Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 I don't think any of us know all of the specifics and I don't think more than a small handful of people will rage quit over something like that.
Ganrich Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Are MC monks using fists viable? Yes. Optimal on PotD? Doubt it. Any difficulty below PotD fists will be fine. First timers should probably avoid PotD anyways, and if you pick the hardest difficulty in a game you are new to and expect not to get stomped then I dont know what to say. NG bonus, if procced by the appropriate inspiration, should increase the duration of summoned weapons. Does it not work this way? If anyone else from beta knows chime in please. I didnt mess with a gish wizard at all in beta. I'm not arguing that clarity shouldnt be available at CC, though. I definitely feel it needs to be.

It is not a rookie mistake but the opposite: a veteran overengineered, unwilling to repeat mistakes yet cannot find a new path. PL is a generic power indicator, which is similar to natural accuracy, a sound if risky idea. Sawyer and co. are obviously able to identify the potential pitfalls and they do mend some obvious holes. Thing is the holes are obviously there if you look hard and it makes the game unintuitive. POE1 has the same problems, Deadfire took huge steps but might not be enough for new players.
