So recently I went to a thrift shop to purchase some things for my house, and I stumbled upon some games and dvds. One of the things in the pile happened to be a sealed version of Pillars of Eternity being sold for cheap. I figured it was probably just a retail copy someone sold to the thrift shop that they didn't want for whatever reason, so I decided to pick it up. It was cheaper than the current retail version, so I took it home.
I opened it up, and was surprised it actually had DVDs instead of the usual steam code in games today. But I figured maybe this game was unique. So I installed it, and ran the game. I noticed the game weirdly didn't have a PC logo or ESRB rating, but I didn't make a big deal about it. Anyway after I installed it I realized that there was a Small Obsidian Wurm in my inventory...which seemed like the kind of item you'd give in a promotional version of a game. So I looked into it and found out that this was a feature inside backer copies of the game...which made me realize I had just purchase a backer copy of POE.
The weird thing though is that it was sealed...and I just have this nagging feeling that it wasn't put there voluntarily. So I just feel bad. Is there any way I would be able to identify whose backer copy this is and return it to them in the situation where it was stolen? I know I paid for the game, and I DO want to play it, but I know how it feels to have something stolen from you that has sentimental value, and I wouldn't have a problem returning it to the rightful owner.
